NEW JERUSALEMKING JAMES BIBLE
[For the choirmaster . . . Jeduthun Of Asaph Psalm] I cry to God in distress, I cry to God and he hearsme.1 I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me.
In the day of my distress I sought the Lord; al night I tirelessly stretched out my hands, my heartrefused to be consoled.2 In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted.
I sigh as I think of God, my spirit faints away as I ponder on him. Pause3 I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah.
You kept me from closing my eyes, I was too distraught to speak;4 Thou holdest mine eyes waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
I thought of former times, years long past5 I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times.
I recalled; through the night I ponder in my heart, as I reflect, my spirit asks this question:6 I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search.
Is the Lord's rejection final? Will he never show favour again?7 Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more?
Is his faithful love gone for ever? Has his Word come to an end for al time?8 Is his mercy clean gone for ever? doth his promise fail for evermore?
Does God forget to show mercy? In anger does he shut off his tenderness?Pause9 Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah.
And I said, 'This is what wounds me, the right hand of the Most High has lost its strength.'10 And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.
Remembering Yahweh's great deeds, remembering your wonders in the past,11 I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.
I reflect on al that you did, I ponder all your great deeds.12 I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.
God, your ways are holy! What god is as great as our God?13 Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?
You are the God who does marvel ous deeds, brought nations to acknowledge your power,14 Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people.
with your own arm redeeming your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph.Pause15 Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.
When the waters saw you, God, when the waters saw you they writhed in anguish, the very depthsshook with fear.16 The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they were afraid: the depths also were troubled.
The clouds pelted down water, the sky thundered, your arrows shot back and forth.17 The clouds poured out water: the skies sent out a sound: thine arrows also went abroad.
The rol ing of your thunder was heard, your lightning-flashes lit up the world, the earth shuddered andshook.18 The voice of thy thunder was in the heaven: the lightnings lightened the world: the earth trembled and shook.
Your way led over the sea, your path over the countless waters, and none could trace your footsteps.19 Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not known.
You guided your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.20 Thou leddest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
