1 [Psalm Of Asaph] Indeed God is good to Israel, the Lord to those who are pure of heart.	1 (Meditazione. di Asaf). Perchè, o Dio, ci hai rigettati per sempre? Perchè il tuo furore divampa contro le pecorelle da te pascolate ?
2 My feet were on the point of stumbling, a little more and I had slipped,	2 Ricordati del tuo popolo che ab antico hai fatto tuo. Lo redimesti come scettro della tua eredità: il monte Sion fu il luogo della tua dimora,
3 envying the arrogant as I did, and seeing the prosperity of the wicked.	3 Alza le tue mani contro la loro superbia senza limiti. Quanti mali ha fatti il nemico nel santuario!
4 For them no such thing as pain, untroubled, their comfortable portliness;	4 Quelli che ti odiano alzano gridi di trionfo nel luogo delle tue solennità; vi han posto come insegne le loro bandiere,
5 exempt from the cares which are the human lot, they have no part in Adam's afflictions.	5 E senza riflettere le han poste sulla sommità (del tempio) come alle porte. Come se fossero stati in una selva, con accetto
6 So pride is a necklace to them, violence the garment they wear.	6 In un momento ne hanno spezzate le porte, atterrando ogni cosa con asce e scuri.
7 From their fat oozes out malice, their hearts drip with cunning.	7 Han dato fuoco al tuo santuario, hanno abbattuto e profanato il Tabernacolo del tuo nome.
8 Cynical y they advocate evil, loftily they advocate force.	8 Disse in cuor suo tutta la loro genia: « Facciamo cessar sulla terra tutte le feste di Dio ».
9 Their mouth claims heaven for themselves, and their tongue is never stil on earth.	9 Non vediam più le nostre insegne, non c'è più alcun profeta, non ci riconosce più.
10 That is why my people turn to them, and enjoy the waters of plenty,	10 Fino a quando, o Dio, insulterà il nemico? L'avversario bestemmierà il tuo nome per sempre?
11 saying, 'How can God know? What knowledge can the Most High have?'	11 Perchè ritiri la tua mano, la tua destra? (Cavala) dal tuo seno per sempre.
12 That is what the wicked are like, piling up wealth without any worries.	12 Eppure Dio è stato il nostro re da secoli, ha data la salvezza in mezzo alla terra.
13 Was it useless, then, to have kept my own heart clean, to have washed my hands in innocence?	13 Tu col tuo potere desti saldezza al mare, stritolasti nelle acque le teste dei dragoni.
14 When I was under a hail of blows al day long, and punished every morning,	14 Tu fracassasti le teste del dragone, lo desti a mangiare ai popoli dell'Etiopia.
15 had I said, 'I shal talk like them,' I should have betrayed your children's race.	15 Tu facesti scaturire fonti e torrenti, tu seccasti fiumi perenni.
16 So I set myself to understand this: how difficult I found it!	16 Tuo è il giorno, tua è la notte, tu facesti l'aurora e il sole.
17 Until I went into the sanctuaries of the gods and understood what was destined to become of them.	17 Tu fissasti i limiti della terra, opera tua son l'estate e la primavera.
18 You place them on a slippery slope and drive them down into chaos.	18 Ricordati di questo: il nemico ha insultato il Signore, un popolo insensato ha provocato il tuo nome.
19 How sudden their hideous destruction! They are swept away, annihilated by terror!	19 Non abbandonare alle bestie le anime di quelli che ti lodano, non dimenticare per sempre le anime dei tuoi poveri.
20 Like a dream upon waking, Lord, when you awake, you dismiss their image.	20 Abbi riguardo al tuo patto, perchè i luoghi oscuri della terra: son pieni di covi d'iniquità.
21 My heart grew embittered, my affections dried up,	21 L'umile non torni via confu­so: il povero e il bisognoso dian lode al tuo nome.
22 I was stupid and uncomprehending, a clumsy animal in your presence.	22 Sorgi, o Dio, difendi la tua causa, ricordati dei tuoi oltraggi, che ti vengono di continuo dall'insensato.
23 Even so, I stayed in your presence, you grasped me by the right hand;	23 Non dimenticare gli urli dei tuoi nemici: la superbia di coloro che ti odiano cresce sempre.
24 you will guide me with advice, and wil draw me in the wake of your glory.
25 Who else is there for me in heaven? And, with you, I lack nothing on earth.
26 My heart and my flesh are pining away: my heart's rock, my portion, God for ever!
27 Truly, those who abandon you will perish; you destroy those who adulterously desert you,
28 whereas my happiness is to be near God. I have made the Lord Yahweh my refuge, to tel of al yourworks.
