NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 [For the choirmaster Of the sons of Korah Poem] God, we have heard for ourselves, our ancestorshave told us, of the deeds you did in their days, in days of old,	1 Al maestro di coro. Dei figli di Core. Maskil.
2 by your hand. To establish them in the land you drove out nations, to make room for them you harriedpeoples.	2 O Dio, noi udimmo con le nostre orecchie, i nostri padri ci narrarono le gesta che compisti ai loro tempi, nei tempi antichi, tu con la tua mano!
3 It was not their own sword that won the land, nor their own arms which made them victorious, but yourhand it was and your arm, and the light of your presence, for you loved them.	3 Spodestasti nazioni e al loro posto li piantasti; affliggesti popoli, mentre loro li rendevi numerosi.
4 You are my king, my God, who decreed Jacob's victories;	4 Infatti, non s'impossessarono della terra con la forza della loro spada, né fu per loro d'aiuto il loro braccio. Ma fu la tua destra, il tuo braccio, e la luce del tuo volto, avendo tu posto in loro la tua compiacenza.
5 through you we conquered our opponents, in your name we trampled down those who rose up againstus.	5 Tu sei, mio re e mio Dio, colui che disponevi le vittorie di Giacobbe.
6 For my trust was not in my bow, my victory was not won by my sword;	6 Con te affrontavamo i nostri nemici, con il tuo nome calpestavamo i nostri oppositori.
7 it was you who saved us from our opponents, you who put to shame those who hate us.	7 Infatti, nessuna fiducia ponevo nell'arco, e la mia spada non mi era d'aiuto.
8 Our boast was always of God, we praised your name without ceasing.Pause	8 Ma tu ci salvasti dai nostri nemici, tu umiliasti coloro che ci odiavano.
9 Yet now you have abandoned and humiliated us, you no longer take the field with our armies,	9 In Dio ci gloriavamo ogni giorno, e il tuo nome lodavamo in perpetuo.
10 you leave us to fall back before the enemy, those who hate us plunder us at wil .	10 Eppure ci hai respinti, coprendoci di vergogna; non esci più in testa alle nostre schiere;
11 You hand us over like sheep for slaughter, you scatter us among the nations,	11 ci hai fatto indietreggiare davanti al nemico, e quanti ci odiano si sono caricati di preda.
12 you sell your people for a trifle and make no profit on the sale.	12 Ci hai resi qual gregge da macello e ci hai dispersi in mezzo alle nazioni.
13 You make us the butt of our neighbours, the mockery and scorn of those around us,	13 Hai barattato il tuo popolo per nulla e non ti sei arricchito con la sua vendita.
14 you make us a by-word among nations, other peoples shake their heads over us.	14 Ci hai posto qual ludibrio per i nostri vicini, oggetto di scherno e d'irrisione per quelli che ci circondano.
15 Al day long I brood on my disgrace, the shame written clear on my face,	15 Ci hai resi una favola in mezzo alle nazioni, un motivo per cui si scuote il capo, fra i popoli.
16 from the sound of insult and abuse, from the sight of hatred and vengefulness.	16 Sta la mia vergogna ogni giorno davanti a me e coperto di rossore è il mio volto,
17 Al this has befal en us though we had not forgotten you, nor been disloyal to your covenant,	17 all'udire colui che oltraggia e insulta, alla vista del nemico e del vendicatore.
18 our hearts never turning away, our feet never straying from your path.	18 Ci è sopraggiunto tutto questo, ma non ti avevamo dimenticato, né avevamo tradito la tua alleanza.
19 Yet you have crushed us in the place where jackals live, and immersed us in shadow dark as death.	19 Non s'era volto indietro il nostro cuore, né dalla tua via s'erano sviati i nostri passi.
20 Had we forgotten the name of our God and stretched out our hands to a foreign god,	20 Ci hai colpiti in modo da ridurci a un posto di sciacalli, e hai disteso su di noi l'ombra della morte.
21 would not God have found this out, for he knows the secrets of the heart?	21 Se avessimo dimenticato il nome del nostro Dio, e le nostre mani avessimo teso verso un dio straniero,
22 For your sake we are being massacred all day long, treated as sheep to be slaughtered.	22 non avrebbe forse Dio scoperto tale cosa, dal momento che egli conosce i segreti del cuore?
23 Wake, Lord! Why are you asleep? Awake! Do not abandon us for good.	23 Sì, a causa tua siamo messi a morte tutto il giorno, e siamo trattati come gregge da macello.
24 Why do you turn your face away, forgetting that we are poor and harrassed?	24 Déstati, perché dormi, o Signore? Svégliati, non ci rigettare per sempre.
25 For we are bowed down to the dust, and lie prone on the ground.	25 Perché nascondi il tuo volto e non ti curi della nostra miseria e afflizione?
26 Arise! Come to our help! Ransom us, as your faithful love demands.	26 Sì, prostrata nella polvere è l'anima nostra, aderisce fino a terra il nostro ventre.
	27 Sorgi in nostro soccorso; riscattaci per la tua misericordia.
