NEW JERUSALEMVULGATA
1 [Of David, when he had feigned insanity before Abimelech, and Abimelech sent him away] I wil blessYahweh at al times, his praise continual y on my lips.1 Ipsi David. Judica, Domine, nocentes me ;
expugna impugnantes me.
2 I will praise Yahweh from my heart; let the humble hear and rejoice.2 Apprehende arma et scutum,
et exsurge in adjutorium mihi.
3 Proclaim with me the greatness of Yahweh, let us acclaim his name together.3 Effunde frameam, et conclude adversus eos qui persequuntur me ;
dic animæ meæ : Salus tua ego sum.
4 I seek Yahweh and he answers me, frees me from al my fears.4 Confundantur et revereantur quærentes animam meam ;
avertantur retrorsum et confundantur cogitantes mihi mala.
5 Fix your gaze on Yahweh and your face wil grow bright, you wil never hang your head in shame.5 Fiant tamquam pulvis ante faciem venti,
et angelus Domini coarctans eos.
6 A pauper calls out and Yahweh hears, saves him from all his troubles.6 Fiat via illorum tenebræ et lubricum,
et angelus Domini persequens eos.
7 The angel of Yahweh encamps around those who fear him, and rescues them.7 Quoniam gratis absconderunt mihi interitum laquei sui ; supervacue exprobraverunt animam meam.
8 Taste and see that Yahweh is good. How blessed are those who take refuge in him.8 Veniat illi laqueus quem ignorat,
et captio quam abscondit apprehendat eum,
et in laqueum cadat in ipsum.
9 Fear Yahweh, you his holy ones; those who fear him lack for nothing.9 Anima autem mea exsultabit in Domino,
et delectabitur super salutari suo.
10 Young lions may go needy and hungry, but those who seek Yahweh lack nothing good.10 Omnia ossa mea dicent :
Domine, quis similis tibi ?
eripiens inopem de manu fortiorum ejus ;
egenum et pauperem a diripientibus eum.
11 Come, my children, listen to me, I wil teach you the fear of Yahweh.11 Surgentes testes iniqui,
quæ ignorabam interrogabant me.
12 Who among you delights in life, longs for time to enjoy prosperity?12 Retribuebant mihi mala pro bonis,
sterilitatem animæ meæ.
13 Guard your tongue from evil, your lips from any breath of deceit.13 Ego autem, cum mihi molesti essent, induebar cilicio ;
humiliabam in jejunio animam meam,
et oratio mea in sinu meo convertetur.
14 Turn away from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it.14 Quasi proximum et quasi fratrem nostrum sic complacebam ;
quasi lugens et contristatus sic humiliabar.
15 The eyes of Yahweh are on the upright, his ear turned to their cry.15 Et adversum me lætati sunt, et convenerunt ;
congregata sunt super me flagella, et ignoravi.
16 But Yahweh's face is set against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth.16 Dissipati sunt, nec compuncti ;
tentaverunt me, subsannaverunt me subsannatione ;
frenduerunt super me dentibus suis.
17 They cry in anguish and Yahweh hears, and rescues them from al their troubles.17 Domine, quando respicies ?
Restitue animam meam a malignitate eorum ;
a leonibus unicam meam.
18 Yahweh is near to the broken-hearted, he helps those whose spirit is crushed.18 Confitebor tibi in ecclesia magna ; in populo gravi laudabo te.
19 Though hardships without number beset the upright, Yahweh brings rescue from them all.19 Non supergaudeant mihi qui adversantur mihi inique,
qui oderunt me gratis, et annuunt oculis.
20 Yahweh takes care of all their bones, not one of them wil be broken.20 Quoniam mihi quidem pacifice loquebantur ;
et in iracundia terræ loquentes, dolos cogitabant.
21 But to the wicked evil brings death, those who hate the upright wil pay the penalty.21 Et dilataverunt super me os suum ;
dixerunt : Euge, euge ! viderunt oculi nostri.
22 Yahweh ransoms the lives of those who serve him, and there wil be no penalty for those who takerefuge in him.22 Vidisti, Domine : ne sileas ;
Domine, ne discedas a me.
23 Exsurge et intende judicio meo, Deus meus ;
et Dominus meus, in causam meam.
24 Judica me secundum justitiam tuam, Domine Deus meus,
et non supergaudeant mihi.
25 Non dicant in cordibus suis : Euge, euge, animæ nostræ ;
nec dicant : Devoravimus eum.
26 Erubescant et revereantur simul qui gratulantur malis meis ;
induantur confusione et reverentia qui magna loquuntur super me.
27 Exsultent et lætentur qui volunt justitiam meam ;
et dicant semper : Magnificetur Dominus, qui volunt pacem servi ejus.
28 Et lingua mea meditabitur justitiam tuam ;
tota die laudem tuam.
