NEW JERUSALEMDOUAI-RHEIMS
[Psalm Of David] Yahweh, I am cal ing, hurry to me, listen to my voice when I cal to you.1 Unto the end, a psalm for David.
May my prayer be like incense in your presence, my uplifted hands like the evening sacrifice.2 Deliver me, O Lord, from the evil man: rescue me from the unjust man.
Yahweh, mount a guard over my mouth, a guard at the door of my lips.3 Who have devised iniquities in their hearts: all the day long they designed battles.
Check any impulse to speak evil, to share the foul deeds of evil-doers. I shal not sample theirdelights!4 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent: the venom of saps is under their lips.
May the upright correct me with a friend's rebuke; but the wicked shal never anoint my head with oil,for that would make me party to their crimes.5 Keep me, O Lord, from the hand of the wicked: and from unjust men deliver me. Who have proposed to supplant my steps.
They are delivered into the power of the rock, their judge, those who took pleasure in hearing mesay,6 the proud have hidden a net for me. And they have stretched out cords for a snare: they have laid for me a stumblingblock by the wayside.
'Like a shattered mil stone on the ground our bones are scattered at the mouth of Sheol.'7 I said to the Lord: Thou art my God: hear, O Lord, the voice of my supplication.
To you, Yahweh, I turn my eyes, in you I take refuge, do not leave me unprotected.8 O Lord, Lord, the strength of my salvation: thou hast overshadowed my head in the day of battle.
Save me from the traps that are set for me, the snares of evil-doers.9 Give me not up, O Lord, from my desire to the wicked: they have plotted against me; do not thou forsake me, lest they should triumph.
Let the wicked fal each into his own net, while I pass on my way.10 The head of them compassing me about: the labour of their lips shall overwhelm them.
Burning coals shall fall upon them; thou wilt cast them down into the fire: in miseries they shall not be able to stand.
A man full of tongue shall not be established in the earth: evil shall catch the unjust man unto destruction.
I know that the Lord will do justice to the needy, and will revenge the poor.
But as for the just, they shall give glory to thy name: and the upright shall dwell with thy countenance.
