Job 19

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Job spoke next. He said:	1 Allora Giobbe rispose:
2 How much longer are you going to torment me and crush me by your speeches?	2 "Fino a quando mi tormenterete e mi affliggerete con i vostri discorsi?
3 You have insulted me ten times already: have you no shame at maltreating me?	3 Sono già dieci volte che mi ingiuriate; non avete vergogna di torturarmi?
4 Even if I had gone astray, my error would still be my own affair.	4 Anche se fosse vero che ho mancato, su di me ricadrebbe il mio errore.
5 But, whereas you take this superior attitude and claim that my disgrace is my own fault,	5 Se realmente volete prevalere contro di me, rimproverandomi ciò di cui ho vergogna,
6 I tel you that God has wronged me and enveloped me in his net.	6 sappiate, dunque, che Dio mi ha fatto torto e mi ha impigliato nella sua rete.
7 If I protest against such violence, I am not heard, if I appeal against it, judgement is never given.	7 Ecco, se grido contro la violenza, non ricevo risposta; se invoco aiuto, non mi si fa giustizia.
8 He has built an impassable wal across my path and covered my way with darkness.	8 Mi ha sbarrato la strada perché non possa passare, sui miei sentieri ha sparso le tenebre.
9 He has deprived me of my glory and taken the crown from my head.	9 Mi ha spogliato del mio onore, mi ha tolto il diadema dal capo.
10 He assails me from al directions to make me vanish; he uproots my hope as he might a tree.	10 Mi demolisce da ogni parte e devo andarmene, sradica come un albero la mia speranza.
11 Inflamed with anger against me, he regards me as his foe.	11 La sua ira si è infiammata contro di me e mi considera come un avversario.
12 His troops have come in force, directing their line of advance towards me, they are now encampedround my tent.	12 Giungono in massa le sue schiere, si spianano un accesso contro di me e pongono l'assedio intorno alla mia tenda.
13 He has alienated my brothers from me, my relatives take care to avoid me,	13 I miei fratelli si sono allontanati da me e i miei conoscenti mi si sono fatti estranei.
14 my intimate friends have gone away and the guests in my house have forgotten me.	14 Scomparsi sono i miei parenti e familiari; mi hanno dimenticato gli ospiti di casa.
15 My slave-girls regard me as an intruder, a stranger as far as they are concerned.	15 Le mie ancelle mi trattano come un estraneo, sono un forestiero ai loro occhi.
16 My servant does not answer when I cal him, I am obliged to beg favours from him!	16 Chiamo il mio servo ed egli non risponde; devo supplicarlo con la mia bocca.
17 My breath is unbearable to my wife, my stench to my own brothers.	17 Il mio fiato ripugna a mia moglie; sono diventato fetido per i figli di mia madre.
18 Even the children look down on me, whenever I stand up, they start jeering at me.	18 Anche i monelli mi disprezzano, mi insultano, se provo ad alzarmi.
19 All my dearest friends recoil from me in horror: those I loved best have turned against me.	19 Mi hanno in orrore tutti i miei confidenti, e quelli che amavo si sono rivoltati contro di me.
20 My flesh is rotting under my skin, my bones are sticking out like teeth.	20 Le mie ossa si attaccano alla pelle e alla carne e sono rimasto solo con la pelle dei miei denti.
21 Pity me, pity me, my friends, since I have been struck by the hand of God.	21 Pietà di me, pietà di me, amici miei, perché la mano di Dio mi ha colpito.
22 Must you persecute me just as God does, and give my body no peace?	22 Perché mi perseguitate come fa Dio e non siete mai sazi della mia carne?
23 Will no one let my words be recorded, inscribed on some monument	23 Ah, se si scrivessero le mie parole, se si fissassero in un libro;
24 with iron chisel and engraving tool, cut into the rock for ever?	24 con stilo di ferro e di piombo fossero scolpite per sempre sul sasso!
25 I know that I have a living Defender and that he wil rise up last, on the dust of the earth.	25 Io so che il mio Vendicatore è vivo e che, ultimo, si ergerà sulla polvere!
26 After my awakening, he wil set me close to him, and from my flesh I shall look on God.	26 Dopo che questa mia pelle sarà distrutta, già senza la mia carne vedrò Dio.
27 He whom I shal see wil take my part: my eyes will be gazing on no stranger. My heart sinks withinme.	27 Io lo vedrò, io stesso; i miei occhi lo contempleranno, e non un altro. Le mie viscere si disfanno dentro di me.
28 When you say, 'How can we confound him? What pretext can we discover against him?'	28 Se dite: "Come lo perseguiteremo, e quale pretesto di processo troveremo in lui?",
29 You yourselves had best beware the sword, since the wrath bursts into flame at wicked deeds andthen you wil learn that there is indeed a judgement!	29 temete per voi la spada, perché questi sono delitti di spada, e saprete che esiste un giudizio".
