NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Job spoke next. He said:	1 Job prit la parole et dit:
2 How much longer are you going to torment me and crush me by your speeches?	2 Jusqu'à quand allez-vous me tourmenter et m'écraser par vos discours?
3 You have insulted me ten times already: have you no shame at maltreating me?	3 Voilà dix fois que vous m'insultez et me malmenez sans vergogne.
4 Even if I had gone astray, my error would still be my own affair.	4 Même si je m'étais égaré, mon égarement resterait en moi seul.
5 But, whereas you take this superior attitude and claim that my disgrace is my own fault,	5 Mais, en vérité, quand vous pensez triompher de moi et m'imputer mon opprobre,
6 I tel you that God has wronged me and enveloped me in his net.	6 sachez que Dieu lui-même m'a fait du tort et enveloppé de son filet.
7 If I protest against such violence, I am not heard, if I appeal against it, judgement is never given.	7 Si je crie à la violence, pas de réponse; si j'en appelle, point de jugement.
8 He has built an impassable wal across my path and covered my way with darkness.	8 Il a dressé sur ma route un mur infranchissable, mis des ténèbres sur mes sentiers.
9 He has deprived me of my glory and taken the crown from my head.	9 Il m'a dépouillé de ma gloire, ôté la couronne de ma tête.
10 He assails me from al directions to make me vanish; he uproots my hope as he might a tree.	10 Il me sape de toutes parts pour me faire disparaître; il déracine comme un arbre mon espérance.
11 Inflamed with anger against me, he regards me as his foe.	11 Enflammé de colère contre moi, il me considère comme son adversaire.
12 His troops have come in force, directing their line of advance towards me, they are now encampedround my tent.	12 Ensemble ses troupes sont arrivées; elles ont frayé vers moi leur chemin d'approche, campé autour dema tente.
13 He has alienated my brothers from me, my relatives take care to avoid me,	13 Mes frères, il les a écartés de moi, mes relations s'appliquent à m'éviter.
14 my intimate friends have gone away and the guests in my house have forgotten me.	14 Mes proches et mes familiers ont disparu, les hôtes de ma maison m'ont oublié.
15 My slave-girls regard me as an intruder, a stranger as far as they are concerned.	15 Mes servantes me tiennent pour un intrus, je suis un étranger à leurs yeux.
16 My servant does not answer when I cal him, I am obliged to beg favours from him!	16 Si j'appelle mon serviteur, il ne répond pas, et je dois moi-même le supplier.
17 My breath is unbearable to my wife, my stench to my own brothers.	17 Mon haleine répugne à ma femme, ma puanteur à mes propres frères.
18 Even the children look down on me, whenever I stand up, they start jeering at me.	18 Même les gamins me témoignent du mépris: si je me lève, ils se mettent à dauber sur moi.
19 All my dearest friends recoil from me in horror: those I loved best have turned against me.	19 Tous mes intimes m'ont en horreur, mes préférés se sont retournés contre moi.
20 My flesh is rotting under my skin, my bones are sticking out like teeth.	20 Sous ma peau, ma chair tombe en pourriture et mes os se dénudent comme des dents.
21 Pity me, pity me, my friends, since I have been struck by the hand of God.	21 Pitié, pitié pour moi, ô vous mes amis! car c'est la main de Dieu qui m'a frappé.
22 Must you persecute me just as God does, and give my body no peace?	22 Pourquoi vous acharner sur moi comme Dieu lui-même, sans vous rassasier de ma chair?
23 Will no one let my words be recorded, inscribed on some monument	23 Oh! je voudrais qu'on écrive mes paroles, qu'elles soient gravées en une inscription,
24 with iron chisel and engraving tool, cut into the rock for ever?	24 avec le ciseau de fer et le stylet, sculptées dans le roc pour toujours!
25 I know that I have a living Defender and that he wil rise up last, on the dust of the earth.	25 Je sais, moi, que mon Défenseur est vivant, que lui, le dernier, se lèvera sur la poussière.
26 After my awakening, he wil set me close to him, and from my flesh I shall look on God.	26 Après mon éveil, il me dressera près de lui et, de ma chair, je verrai Dieu.
27 He whom I shal see wil take my part: my eyes will be gazing on no stranger. My heart sinks withinme.	27 Celui que je verrai sera pour moi, celui que mes yeux regarderont ne sera pas un étranger. Et mesreins en moi se consument.
28 When you say, 'How can we confound him? What pretext can we discover against him?'	28 Lorsque vous dites: "Comment l'accabler, quel prétexte trouverons-nous en lui?"
29 You yourselves had best beware the sword, since the wrath bursts into flame at wicked deeds andthen you wil learn that there is indeed a judgement!	29 Craignez pour vous-mêmes l'épée, car la colère s'enflammera contre les fautes, et vous saurez qu'il y aun jugement.
