1 Man may make plans in his heart, but what the tongue utters is from the LORD.	1 E' dell'uomo preparare l'animo, e del Signore governare la lingua.
2 All the ways of a man may be pure in his own eyes, but it is the LORD who proves the spirit.	2 Tutte le vie dell'uomo sono a lui manifeste: il Signore pesa gli spiriti.
3 Entrust your works to the LORD, and your plans will succeed.	3 Raccomanda al Signore le tue opere, e i tuoi disegni riusciranno.
4 The LORD has made everything for his own ends, even the wicked for the evil day.	4 Il Signore ha fatto tutte le cose per se stesso, ed anche l'empio pel giorno della rovina.
5 Every proud man is an abomination to the LORD; I assure you that he will not go unpunished.	5 Il Signore abbomina tutti gli arroganti, anche se stanno colle mani in mano non resteranno impuniti. E' principio della buona via praticar la giustizia, che è accetta davanti a Dio più delle vittime.
6 By kindness and piety guilt is expiated, and by the fear of the LORD man avoids evil.	6 Colla misericordia e colla fedeltà s'espian le colpe, e col timore del Signore s'evita il male.
7 When the LORD is pleased with a man's ways, he makes even his enemies be at peace with him.	7 Quando al Signore piace la condotta dell'uomo, convertirà alla pace anche i di lui nemici.
8 Better a little with virtue, than a large income with injustice.	8 Meglio poco con giustizia, che grandi entrate con iniquità.
9 In his mind a man plans his course, but the LORD directs his steps.	9 Il cuore dell'uomo fa i suoi disegni, ma sta a Dio dirigere i suoi passi.
10 The king's lips are an oracle; no judgment he pronounces is false.	10 Sulle labbra del re sta la sentenza divina, nel rendere giustizia la sua bocca non errerà,
11 Balance and scales belong to the LORD; all the weights used with them are his concern.	11 Il peso e la bilancia sono stabiliti dal Signore, e sono opere di lui tutte le pietre del sacchetto.
12 Kings have a horror of wrongdoing, for by righteousness the throne endures.	12 Il re ha in abbominio coloro che agiscono empiamente, perchè colla giustizia è reso stabile trono.
13 The king takes delight in honest lips, and the man who speaks what is right he loves.	13 Al re piacciono le labbra veritiere; chi parla rettamente sarà amato.
14 The king's wrath is like messengers of death, but a wise man can pacify it.	14 Lo sdegno del re è nunzio di morte, ma l'uomo saggio lo placherà.
15 In the light of the king's countenance is life, and his favor is like a rain cloud in spring.	15 Il volto ilare del re dà la vita, e la sua clemenza è come pioggia primaverile.
16 How much better to acquire wisdom than gold! To acquire understanding is more desirable than silver.	16 Acquista la sapienza, che e migliore dell'oro; acquista la prudenza, che vale più dell'argento.
17 The path of the upright avoids misfortune; he who pays attention to his way safeguards his life.	17 Il sentiero dei giusti evita il male, chi tien conto dell'anima sua guarda alla sua condotta.
18 Pride goes before disaster, and a haughty spirit before a fall.	18 La superbia precede lo smacco, e lo spirito si esalta avanti la rovina.
19 It is better to be humble with the meek than to share plunder with the proud.	19 Meglio essere umiliati coi mansueti, che spartir la preda coi superbi.
20 He who plans a thing will be successful; happy is he who trusts in the LORD!	20 Chi è abile nel parlare si troverà bene, ma chi spera nel Signore è beato.
21 The wise man is esteemed for his discernment, yet pleasing speech increases his persuasiveness.	21 Chi ha la sapienza nel cuore sarà chiamato prudente, e chi è di dolce eloquio otterrà molto di più.
22 Good sense is a fountain of life to its possessor, but folly brings chastisement on fools.	22 L'istruzione è fonte di vita per chi la possiede, la dottrina degli stolti è sciocchezza.
23 The mind of the wise man makes him eloquent, and augments the persuasiveness of his lips.	23 Il cuore del sapiente ne rende assennata la bocca, ed aggiungerà grazia allo sue labbra.
24 Pleasing words are a honeycomb, sweet to the taste and healthful to the body.	24 Un bel parlare è favo di miele, dolcezza doll'anima, sanità delle ossa.
25 Sometimes a way seems right to a man, but the end of it leads to death!	25 Vi è una via che all'uomo sembra diritta, ma in fondo va a finire nella morte.
26 The laborer's appetite labors for him, for his mouth urges him on.	26 L'uomo che lavora, lavora per sè, perchè la sua bocca lo costringe.
27 A scoundrel is a furnace of evil, and on his lips there is a scorching fire.	27 L'empio scava rovine, e sulle sue labbra sta un fuoco divoratore.
28 An intriguer sows discord, and a talebearer separates bosom friends.	28 L'uomo perverso suscita liti, il ciarliero mette la divisione tra i principi.
29 A lawless man allures his neighbor, and leads him into a way that is not good.	29 L'uomo iniquo seduce il suo amico, e lo mena per strada non buona.
30 He who winks his eye is plotting trickery; he who compresses his lips has mischief ready.	30 Chi fissa gli occhi pensa a cose cattive, chi si morde le labbra manda ad effetto il male.
31 Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained by virtuous living.	31 La canizie è gloriosa corona che si troverà nelle vie della giustizia.
32 A patient man is better than a warrior, and he who rules his temper, than he who takes a city.	32 Il paziente vai più del forte, e chi sa comandare a se stesso vai più di chi espugna, città.
33 When the lot is cast into the lap, its decision depends entirely on the LORD.	33 Le sorti si gettano in grembo, ma sono dirette dal Signore.
