Psalms 18

1 For the leader. Of David, the servant of the LORD, who sang to the LORD the words of this song after the LORD had rescued him from the clutches of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.	1 Per il Capocoro, Del servitore di Jahvè. Di David, il quale disse a Jahvè le parole di questo canto nel giorno in cui Jahvè lo salvò alle mani di tutti i nemici e dalla mano di Saul,
2 He said: I love you, LORD, my strength,	2 e disse: Ti amo, Jahvè mia forza,
3 LORD, my rock, my fortress, my deliverer, My God, my rock of refuge, my shield, my saving horn, my stronghold!	3 Jahvè mia roccia, mia fortezza e mio scampo, mio Dio, mia rupe, in cui mi rifugio, mio scudo e corno della mia salute, mia torre.
4 Praised be the LORD, I exclaim! I have been delivered from my enemies.	4 Dai furenti contro di me invoco Jahvè e dai miei nemici io grido.
5 The breakers of death surged round about me; the menacing floods terrified me.	5 Mi avvolsero frangenti di morte e torrenti rovinosi mi hanno sgomentato.
6 The cords of Sheol tightened; the snares of death lay in wait for me.	6 Le funi dello Sheol mi cinsero, mi colsero lacci di morte.
7 In my distress I called out: LORD! I cried out to my God. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry to him reached his ears.	7 Nella mia angustia invocai Jahvè: e al mio Dio gridai. Ascoltò dal suo tempio la mia voce e il mio grido gli giunse all’orecchio.
8 The earth rocked and shook; the foundations of the mountains trembled; they shook as his wrath flared up.	8 Si commosse e si scosse la terra e le basi dei monti tremarono, e si commossero perché egli si sdegnò.
9 Smoke rose in his nostrils, a devouring fire poured from his mouth; it kindled coals into flame.	9 Salì il fumo dalle sue narici e fuoco dalla sua bocca divorò; carboni arsero da lui.
10 He parted the heavens and came down, a dark cloud under his feet.	10 Piegò i cieli e discese e la caligine sotto i suoi piedi.
11 Mounted on a cherub he flew, borne along on the wings of the wind.	11 Cavalcò sui Cherubini e volò e si librò sulle ali del vento.
12 He made darkness the cover about him; his canopy, heavy thunderheads.	12 E fece delle tenebre il suo velo d’intorno; del tenebrore delle acque e dei nembi la sua tenda.
13 Before him scudded his clouds, hail and lightning too.	13 Contro lo splendore, dinanzi a lui, nubi trascorsero, grandine e carboni ardenti.
14 The LORD thundered from heaven; the Most High made his voice resound.	14 E tuonò nei cieli Jahvè e l’Altissimo diede una voce.
15 He let fly his arrows and scattered them; shot his lightning bolts and dispersed them.	15 E scagliò le sue frecce e li disperse, vibrò i suoi lampi e li sbaragliò.
16 Then the bed of the sea appeared; the world's foundations lay bare, At the roar of the LORD, at the storming breath of his nostrils.	16 E apparvero i fondi dei mari e si scoprirono le fondamenta dell’orbe, dal tuo rabbuffo, o Jahvè, e dallo sbuffare del soffio delle tue narici.
17 He reached down from on high and seized me; drew me out of the deep waters.	17 Stese dall’alto e mi prese; mi trasse dalle acque stragrandi,
18 He rescued me from my mighty enemy, from foes too powerful for me.	18 Mi liberò dai miei nemici potenti e da coloro che mi odiano, più forti di me.
19 They attacked me on a day of distress, but the LORD came to my support.	19 Mi affrontarono nel giorno della mia disgrazia; ma Jahvè fu sostegno per me.
20 He set me free in the open; he rescued me because he loves me.	20 Mi fece uscire al largo; mi liberò, perché mi vuole bene.
21 The LORD acknowledged my righteousness, rewarded my clean hands.	21 Mi ripagò ave secondo la mia giustizia, secondo la purezza delle mie mani mi retribuì.
22 For I kept the ways of the LORD; I was not disloyal to my God.	22 Poiché ho custodito le vie di Jahvè né fui empio lontano dal mio Dio.
23 His laws were all before me, his decrees I did not cast aside.	23 Poiché tutti i suoi decreti mi stanno davanti e i suoi precetti non ho deviato da me.
24 I was honest toward him; I was on guard against sin.	24 Ma fui perfetto con lui e mi guardai dalla colpa.
25 So the LORD rewarded my righteousness, the cleanness of my hands in his sight.	25 E mi rese Jahvè secondo la mia giustizia, secondo la purezza delle mie mani ai suoi occhi.
26 Toward the faithful you are faithful; to the honest you are honest;	26 Con il pio fai il pio; con l’uomo perfetto fai il perfetto;
27 Toward the sincere, sincere; but to the perverse you are devious.	27 con il puro fai il puro ma con lo storto fai il tortuoso.
28 Humble people you save; haughty eyes you bring low.	28 Infatti tu salvi il popolo umile ma gli occhi altezzosi umilii.
29 You, LORD, give light to my lamp; my God brightens the darkness about me.	29 Poiché tu dai luce alla mia lampada, Jahvè, il mio Dio rischiara le mie tenebre.
30 With you I can rush an armed band, with my God to help I can leap a wall.	30 Poiché con te corro contro la torma; per il mio Dio, scavalco il muro.
31 God's way is unerring; the LORD'S promise is tried and true; he is a shield for all who trust in him.	31 Perfetta è la via di Dio, la parola di Jahvè è saggiata; scudo egli è per quanti si rifugiano in lui.
32 Truly, who is God except the LORD? Who but our God is the rock?	32 Poiché, chi è Dio, fuori di Jahvè? E chi è rupe, eccetto il nostro Dio?
33 This God who girded me with might, kept my way unerring,	33 Il Dio che mi cinge di forza mi rese piana la via,
34 Who made my feet swift as a deer's, set me safe on the heights,	34 che uguaglia i miei piedi alle cerve, e sulle alture mi drizza,
35 Who trained my hands for war, my arms to bend even a bow of bronze.	35 che addestra le mie mani alla battaglia, così che il mio braccio tende l’arco di bronzo.
36 You have given me your protecting shield; your right hand has upheld me; you stooped to make me great.	36 E mi desti lo scudo della tua salvezza e la tua destra mi regge e la tua pietà mi alleva.
37 You gave me room to stride; my feet never stumbled.	37 Tu allarghi il mio passo sotto di me né vacillano i miei garretti.
38 I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till I destroyed them.	38 Inseguo i nemici e li colgo né mi volto finché non sono distrutti.
39 I struck them down; they could not rise; they fell dead at my feet.	39 Li colpisco né più possono risorgere e cadono sotto i miei piedi.
40 You girded me with strength for war, subdued adversaries at my feet.	40 E mi cingi di forza alla battaglia, pieghi gli insorti sotto di me.
41 My foes you put to flight before me; those who hated me I destroyed.	41 E i nemici me li presenti di schiena, e distruggo coloro che mi odiano.
42 They cried for help, but no one saved them; cried to the LORD but got no answer.	42 Possono gridare: non c'è chi li salvi; a Jahvè, né risponde ad essi.
43 I ground them fine as dust in the wind; like mud in the streets I trampled them down.	43 E li trito come polvere al vento, come fango dei trivi li calco.
44 You rescued me from the strife of peoples; you made me head over nations. A people I had not known became my slaves;	44 Mi scampi da lotte intestine, mi poni a capo di genti; un popolo che ignoravo mi serve.
45 as soon as they heard of me they obeyed. Foreigners cringed before me;	45 A udita d’orecchio mi ascoltano; i figli di stranieri davanti a me strisciano.
46 their courage failed; they came trembling from their fortresses.	46 Figli di stranieri si struggono, escono trepidanti dai loro rifugi.
47 The LORD lives! Blessed be my rock! Exalted be God, my savior!	47 Viva Jahvè e benedetta la mia rupe, eccelso è il Dio della mia salvezza,
48 O God who granted me vindication, made peoples subject to me,	48 il Dio che mi dà le vendette, soggioga i popoli sotto di me.
49 and preserved me from my enemies, Truly you have exalted me above my adversaries, from the violent you have rescued me.	49 Tu mi strappi dai nemici furenti, dagli insorti in alto mi salvi, dall’uomo violento mi scampi.
50 Thus I will proclaim you, LORD, among the nations; I will sing the praises of your name.	50 Perciò ti loderò, Jahvè, tra le genti e inneggerò al tuo nome,
51 You have given great victories to your king, and shown kindness to your anointed, to David and his posterity forever.	51 che magnifica la vittoria al suo re e fa grazia al suo unto, a David e al suo seme in eterno.
