Psalms 18

1 For the leader. Of David, the servant of the LORD, who sang to the LORD the words of this song after the LORD had rescued him from the clutches of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.	1 Al maestro del coro. Di Davide, servo del Signore, che rivolse al Signore le parole di questo canto quando il Signore lo liberò dal potere di tutti i suoi nemici e dalla mano di Saul.
2 He said: I love you, LORD, my strength,	2 Disse dunque:Ti amo, Signore, mia forza,
3 LORD, my rock, my fortress, my deliverer, My God, my rock of refuge, my shield, my saving horn, my stronghold!	3 Signore, mia roccia, mia fortezza, mio liberatore,mio Dio, mia rupe, in cui mi rifugio;mio scudo, mia potente salvezza e mio baluardo.
4 Praised be the LORD, I exclaim! I have been delivered from my enemies.	4 Invoco il Signore, degno di lode,e sarò salvato dai miei nemici.
5 The breakers of death surged round about me; the menacing floods terrified me.	5 Mi circondavano flutti di morte,mi travolgevano torrenti infernali;
6 The cords of Sheol tightened; the snares of death lay in wait for me.	6 già mi avvolgevano i lacci degli inferi,già mi stringevano agguati mortali.
7 In my distress I called out: LORD! I cried out to my God. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry to him reached his ears.	7 Nell’angoscia invocai il Signore,nell’angoscia gridai al mio Dio:dal suo tempio ascoltò la mia voce,a lui, ai suoi orecchi, giunse il mio grido.
8 The earth rocked and shook; the foundations of the mountains trembled; they shook as his wrath flared up.	8 La terra tremò e si scosse;vacillarono le fondamenta dei monti,si scossero perché egli era adirato.
9 Smoke rose in his nostrils, a devouring fire poured from his mouth; it kindled coals into flame.	9 Dalle sue narici saliva fumo,dalla sua bocca un fuoco divorante;da lui sprizzavano carboni ardenti.
10 He parted the heavens and came down, a dark cloud under his feet.	10 Abbassò i cieli e discese,una nube oscura sotto i suoi piedi.
11 Mounted on a cherub he flew, borne along on the wings of the wind.	11 Cavalcava un cherubino e volava,si librava sulle ali del vento.
12 He made darkness the cover about him; his canopy, heavy thunderheads.	12 Si avvolgeva di tenebre come di un velo,di acque oscure e di nubi come di una tenda.
13 Before him scudded his clouds, hail and lightning too.	13 Davanti al suo fulgore passarono le nubi,con grandine e carboni ardenti.
14 The LORD thundered from heaven; the Most High made his voice resound.	14 Il Signore tuonò dal cielo,l’Altissimo fece udire la sua voce:grandine e carboni ardenti.
15 He let fly his arrows and scattered them; shot his lightning bolts and dispersed them.	15 Scagliò saette e li disperse,fulminò con folgori e li sconfisse.
16 Then the bed of the sea appeared; the world's foundations lay bare, At the roar of the LORD, at the storming breath of his nostrils.	16 Allora apparve il fondo del mare,si scoprirono le fondamenta del mondo,per la tua minaccia, Signore,per lo spirare del tuo furore.
17 He reached down from on high and seized me; drew me out of the deep waters.	17 Stese la mano dall’alto e mi prese,mi sollevò dalle grandi acque,
18 He rescued me from my mighty enemy, from foes too powerful for me.	18 mi liberò da nemici potenti,da coloro che mi odiavanoed erano più forti di me.
19 They attacked me on a day of distress, but the LORD came to my support.	19 Mi assalirono nel giorno della mia sventura,ma il Signore fu il mio sostegno;
20 He set me free in the open; he rescued me because he loves me.	20 mi portò al largo,mi liberò perché mi vuol bene.
21 The LORD acknowledged my righteousness, rewarded my clean hands.	21 Il Signore mi tratta secondo la mia giustizia,mi ripaga secondo l’innocenza delle mie mani,
22 For I kept the ways of the LORD; I was not disloyal to my God.	22 perché ho custodito le vie del Signore,non ho abbandonato come un empio il mio Dio.
23 His laws were all before me, his decrees I did not cast aside.	23 I suoi giudizi mi stanno tutti davanti,non ho respinto da me la sua legge;
24 I was honest toward him; I was on guard against sin.	24 ma integro sono stato con luie mi sono guardato dalla colpa.
25 So the LORD rewarded my righteousness, the cleanness of my hands in his sight.	25 Il Signore mi ha ripagato secondo la mia giustizia,secondo l’innocenza delle mie mani davanti ai suoi occhi.
26 Toward the faithful you are faithful; to the honest you are honest;	26 Con l’uomo buono tu sei buono,con l’uomo integro tu sei integro,
27 Toward the sincere, sincere; but to the perverse you are devious.	27 con l’uomo puro tu sei puroe dal perverso non ti fai ingannare.
28 Humble people you save; haughty eyes you bring low.	28 Perché tu salvi il popolo dei poveri,ma abbassi gli occhi dei superbi.
29 You, LORD, give light to my lamp; my God brightens the darkness about me.	29 Signore, tu dai luce alla mia lampada;il mio Dio rischiara le mie tenebre.
30 With you I can rush an armed band, with my God to help I can leap a wall.	30 Con te mi getterò nella mischia,con il mio Dio scavalcherò le mura.
31 God's way is unerring; the LORD'S promise is tried and true; he is a shield for all who trust in him.	31 La via di Dio è perfetta,la parola del Signore è purificata nel fuoco;egli è scudo per chi in lui si rifugia.
32 Truly, who is God except the LORD? Who but our God is the rock?	32 Infatti, chi è Dio, se non il Signore?O chi è roccia, se non il nostro Dio?
33 This God who girded me with might, kept my way unerring,	33 Il Dio che mi ha cinto di vigoree ha reso integro il mio cammino,
34 Who made my feet swift as a deer's, set me safe on the heights,	34 mi ha dato agilità come di cervee sulle alture mi ha fatto stare saldo,
35 Who trained my hands for war, my arms to bend even a bow of bronze.	35 ha addestrato le mie mani alla battaglia,le mie braccia a tendere l’arco di bronzo.
36 You have given me your protecting shield; your right hand has upheld me; you stooped to make me great.	36 Tu mi hai dato il tuo scudo di salvezza,la tua destra mi ha sostenuto,mi hai esaudito e mi hai fatto crescere.
37 You gave me room to stride; my feet never stumbled.	37 Hai spianato la via ai miei passi,i miei piedi non hanno vacillato.
38 I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till I destroyed them.	38 Ho inseguito i miei nemici e li ho raggiunti,non sono tornato senza averli annientati.
39 I struck them down; they could not rise; they fell dead at my feet.	39 Li ho colpiti e non si sono rialzati,sono caduti sotto i miei piedi.
40 You girded me with strength for war, subdued adversaries at my feet.	40 Tu mi hai cinto di forza per la guerra,hai piegato sotto di me gli avversari.
41 My foes you put to flight before me; those who hated me I destroyed.	41 Dei nemici mi hai mostrato le spalle:quelli che mi odiavano, li ho distrutti.
42 They cried for help, but no one saved them; cried to the LORD but got no answer.	42 Hanno gridato e nessuno li ha salvati,hanno gridato al Signore, ma non ha risposto.
43 I ground them fine as dust in the wind; like mud in the streets I trampled them down.	43 Come polvere al vento li ho dispersi,calpestati come fango delle strade.
44 You rescued me from the strife of peoples; you made me head over nations. A people I had not known became my slaves;	44 Mi hai scampato dal popolo in rivolta,mi hai posto a capo di nazioni.Un popolo che non conoscevo mi ha servito;
45 as soon as they heard of me they obeyed. Foreigners cringed before me;	45 all’udirmi, subito mi obbedivano,stranieri cercavano il mio favore,
46 their courage failed; they came trembling from their fortresses.	46 impallidivano uomini stranierie uscivano tremanti dai loro nascondigli.
47 The LORD lives! Blessed be my rock! Exalted be God, my savior!	47 Viva il Signore e benedetta la mia roccia,sia esaltato il Dio della mia salvezza.
48 O God who granted me vindication, made peoples subject to me,	48 Dio, tu mi accordi la rivincitae sottometti i popoli al mio giogo,
49 and preserved me from my enemies, Truly you have exalted me above my adversaries, from the violent you have rescued me.	49 mi salvi dai nemici furenti,dei miei avversari mi fai trionfaree mi liberi dall’uomo violento.
50 Thus I will proclaim you, LORD, among the nations; I will sing the praises of your name.	50 Per questo, Signore, ti loderò tra le gentie canterò inni al tuo nome.
51 You have given great victories to your king, and shown kindness to your anointed, to David and his posterity forever.	51 Egli concede al suo re grandi vittorie,si mostra fedele al suo consacrato,a Davide e alla sua discendenza per sempre.
