Job 29

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	Biblia Matos Soares
1 Job took up his theme anew and said;	1 Job, continuando a sua parábola, acrescentou:
2 Oh, that I were as in the months past! as in the days when God watched over me,	2 Quem me dera ser como fui nos meses antigos, como nos dias em que Deus me guardava,
3 While he kept his lamp shining above my head, and by his light I walked through darkness;	3 quando a sua lâmpada luzia sobre a minha cabeça, e quando eu, guiado pela sua luz, caminhava (seguro) entre as trevas!
4 As I was in my flourishing days, when God sheltered my tent;	4 Como fui nos dias do meu outono, quando Deus protegia a minha casa,
5 When the Almighty was yet with me, and my children were round about me;	5 quando o Omnipotente estava comigo, e meus filhos em volta de mim;
6 When my footsteps were bathed in milk, and the rock flowed with streams of oil;	6 quando eu (por assim dizer) lavava os meus pés em leite, e quando a pedra derramava para mim arrolos de azeite;
7 When I went forth to the gate of the city and set up my seat in the square-	7 quando eu saia até à porta da cidade, e me sentava numa cadeira na praça pública!
8 Then the young men saw me and withdrew, while the elders rose up and stood;	8 Viam-me (nessa altura) os jovens e retiravam-se (reverentes); os velhos, levantando-se, punham-se de pé.
9 The chief men refrained from speaking and covered their mouths with their hands;	9 Os príncipes cessavam de falar, e punham a mão sobre a sua boca.
10 The voice of the princes was silenced, and their tongues stuck to the roofs of their mouths.	10 Os grandes continham a sua voz, e a sua língua ficava pegada ao paladar.
11 Whoever heard of me blessed me; those who saw me commended me.	11 O ouvido que me escutava, chamava-me bem-aventurado, e os olhos que me viam, davam (bom) testemunho de mim,
12 For I rescued the poor who cried out for help, the orphans, and the unassisted;	12 porque eu livrava o aflito suplicante, e o órfão, que não tinha quem o socorresse,
13 The blessing of those in extremity came upon me, and the heart of the widow I made joyful.	13 A bênção do que estava a perecer vinha sobre mim, e eu consolava o coração da viúva.
14 I wore my honesty like a garment; justice was my robe and my turban.	14 Revesti-me de justiça, e a equidade serviu-me como de vestido e de diadema.
15 I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame was I;	15 Fui o olho do cego, e o pé do coxo.
16 I was a father to the needy; the rights of the stranger I studied,	16 Eu era o pai dos pobres, e as causas (dos pobres) de que eu não tinha conhecimento, informava-me delas com toda a diligência.
17 And I broke the jaws of the wicked man; from his teeth I forced the prey.	17 Eu quebrava as maxilas do iníquo, e tirava-lhe a presa dentre os dentes.
18 Then I said: "In my own nest I shall grow old; I shall multiply years like the phoenix.	18 Eu dizia: Morrerei no meu ninho, e multiplicarei os dias como a areia.
19 My root is spread out to the waters; the dew rests by night on my branches.	19 A minha raiz estende-se ao longo das águas, e o orvalho descansa sobre os meus ramos.
20 My glory is fresh within me, and my bow is renewed in my hand!"	20 A minha glória sempre se renovará, e o meu arco fortificar-se-á na minha mão.
21 For me they listened and waited; they were silent for my counsel.	21 Os que me ouviam esperavam a minha opinião, e em silêncio estavam atentos ao meu conselho.
22 Once I spoke, they said no more, but received my pronouncement drop by drop.	22 Não ousavam juntar nada ás minhas palavras, e as minhas razões caíam sobre eles como orvalho.
23 They waited for me as for the rain; they drank in my words like the spring rains.	23 Esperavam-me como a chuva, e abriam a sua boca como (faz a terra seca) às águas da primavera.
24 When I smiled on them they were reassured;	24 Se alguma vez lhes sorria, não o acreditavam, e a luz do meu rosto não caia por terra.
25 mourners took comfort from my cheerful glance. I chose out their way and presided; I took a king's place in the armed forces.	25 Quando ia ter com eles, sentava-me no primeiro lugar, como um rei no meio do seu exército, como um consolador dos aflitos.
