NEW AMERICAN BIBLELXX
Job took up his theme anew and said;1 ετι δε προσθεις ιωβ ειπεν τω προοιμιω
Oh, that I were as in the months past! as in the days when God watched over me,2 τις αν με θειη κατα μηνα εμπροσθεν ημερων ων με ο θεος εφυλαξεν
While he kept his lamp shining above my head, and by his light I walked through darkness;3 ως οτε ηυγει ο λυχνος αυτου υπερ κεφαλης μου οτε τω φωτι αυτου επορευομην εν σκοτει
As I was in my flourishing days, when God sheltered my tent;4 οτε ημην επιβριθων οδοις οτε ο θεος επισκοπην εποιειτο του οικου μου
When the Almighty was yet with me, and my children were round about me;5 οτε ημην υλωδης λιαν κυκλω δε μου οι παιδες
When my footsteps were bathed in milk, and the rock flowed with streams of oil;6 οτε εχεοντο μου αι οδοι βουτυρω τα δε ορη μου εχεοντο γαλακτι
When I went forth to the gate of the city and set up my seat in the square-7 οτε εξεπορευομην ορθριος εν πολει εν δε πλατειαις ετιθετο μου ο διφρος
Then the young men saw me and withdrew, while the elders rose up and stood;8 ιδοντες με νεανισκοι εκρυβησαν πρεσβυται δε παντες εστησαν
The chief men refrained from speaking and covered their mouths with their hands;9 αδροι δε επαυσαντο λαλουντες δακτυλον επιθεντες επι στοματι
The voice of the princes was silenced, and their tongues stuck to the roofs of their mouths.10 οι δε ακουσαντες εμακαρισαν με και γλωσσα αυτων τω λαρυγγι αυτων εκολληθη
Whoever heard of me blessed me; those who saw me commended me.11 οτι ους ηκουσεν και εμακαρισεν με οφθαλμος δε ιδων με εξεκλινεν
For I rescued the poor who cried out for help, the orphans, and the unassisted;12 διεσωσα γαρ πτωχον εκ χειρος δυναστου και ορφανω ω ουκ ην βοηθος εβοηθησα
The blessing of those in extremity came upon me, and the heart of the widow I made joyful.13 ευλογια απολλυμενου επ' εμε ελθοι στομα δε χηρας με ευλογησεν
I wore my honesty like a garment; justice was my robe and my turban.14 δικαιοσυνην δε ενεδεδυκειν ημφιασαμην δε κριμα ισα διπλοιδι
I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame was I;15 οφθαλμος ημην τυφλων πους δε χωλων
I was a father to the needy; the rights of the stranger I studied,16 εγω ημην πατηρ αδυνατων δικην δε ην ουκ ηδειν εξιχνιασα
And I broke the jaws of the wicked man; from his teeth I forced the prey.17 συνετριψα δε μυλας αδικων εκ δε μεσου των οδοντων αυτων αρπαγμα εξεσπασα
Then I said: "In my own nest I shall grow old; I shall multiply years like the phoenix.18 ειπα δε η ηλικια μου γηρασει ωσπερ στελεχος φοινικος πολυν χρονον βιωσω
My root is spread out to the waters; the dew rests by night on my branches.19 η ριζα μου διηνοικται επι υδατος και δροσος αυλισθησεται εν τω θερισμω μου
My glory is fresh within me, and my bow is renewed in my hand!"20 η δοξα μου καινη μετ' εμου και το τοξον μου εν χειρι αυτου πορευσεται
For me they listened and waited; they were silent for my counsel.21 εμου ακουσαντες προσεσχον εσιωπησαν δε επι τη εμη βουλη
Once I spoke, they said no more, but received my pronouncement drop by drop.22 επι δε τω εμω ρηματι ου προσεθεντο περιχαρεις δε εγινοντο οποταν αυτοις ελαλουν
They waited for me as for the rain; they drank in my words like the spring rains.23 ωσπερ γη διψωσα προσδεχομενη τον υετον ουτως ουτοι την εμην λαλιαν
When I smiled on them they were reassured;24 εαν γελασω προς αυτους ου μη πιστευσωσιν και φως του προσωπου μου ουκ απεπιπτεν
mourners took comfort from my cheerful glance. I chose out their way and presided; I took a king's place in the armed forces.25 εξελεξαμην οδον αυτων και εκαθισα αρχων και κατεσκηνουν ωσει βασιλευς εν μονοζωνοις ον τροπον παθεινους παρακαλων
