1 Aber im siebten Monat kam Jischmael, der Sohn Netanjas, des Sohnes Elischamas, ein Mann aus königlichem Geschlecht und einer von den Großen des Königs, mit zehn Mann zu Gedalja, dem Sohn Ahikams, nach Mizpa. Während sie dort zusammen aßen,	1 And it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ismahel the son of Nathanias, the son of Elisama of the royal blood, and the nobles of the king, and ten men with him, came to Godolias the son of Ahicam into Masphath: and they ate bread there together in Masphath.
2 erhob sich Jischmael, der Sohn Netanjas, samt den zehn Männern, die bei ihm waren, und sie erschlugen Gedalja, den Sohn Ahikams, des Sohnes Schafans, mit dem Schwert. So tötete er den Mann, den der König von Babel als Statthalter im Land eingesetzt hatte.	2 And Ismahel the son of Nathanias arose, and the ten men that were with him, and they struck Godolias the son of Ahicam, the son of Saphan with the sword, and slew him whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.
3 Auch alle Judäer, die bei ihm [bei Gedalja] in Mizpa waren, und die Chaldäer, die sich dort als militärische Besatzung befanden, erschlug Jischmael.	3 Ismahel slew also all the Jews that were with Godolias in Masphath, and the Chaldeans that were found there, and the soldiers.
4 Am zweiten Tag nach Gedaljas Ermordung, als noch niemand etwas erfahren hatte,	4 And on the second day after he had killed Godolias, no man yet knowing it,
5 kamen Männer aus Sichem, Schilo und Samaria, achtzig Mann, mit geschorenen Bärten, zerrissenen Kleidern und eingeritzten Wunden. Sie trugen in ihren Händen Opfergaben und Weihrauch, um sie zumHaus des Herrn zu bringen.	5 There came some from Sichem, and from Silo, and from Samaria, fourscore men, with their beards shaven, and their clothes rent, and mourning: and they had offerings and incense in their hand, to offer in the house of the Lord.
6 Da ging ihnen Jischmael, der Sohn Netanjas, von Mizpa aus entgegen, wobei er laut weinte. Sobald er mit ihnen zusammentraf, lud er sie ein: Kommt mit zu Gedalja, dem Sohn Ahikams!	6 And Ismahel the son of Nathanias went forth from Masphath to meet them, weeping all along as he went: and when he had met them, he said to them: Come to Godolias, the son of Ahicam.
7 Als sie nun in die Stadtmitte gekommen waren, ermordete sie Jischmael, der Sohn Netanjas, mit Hilfe der Männer, die er bei sich hatte, und warf sie in die Zisterne.	7 And when they were come to the midst of the city, Ismahel the son of Nathanias, slew them, and cast them into the midst of the pit, he and the men that were with him.
8 Zehn Männer aber, die sich unter jenen befanden, hatten zu Jischmael gesagt: Töte uns nicht; denn wir haben versteckte Vorräte auf dem Feld: Weizen, Gerste, Öl und Honig. Da sah er davon ab, sie zusammen mit ihren Stammesbrüdern zu töten.	8 But ten men were found among them, that said to Ismahel : Kill us not: for we have stores in the field, of wheat, and barley, and oil, and honey. And he forbore, and slew them not with their brethren.
9 Die Zisterne, in die Jischmael alle Leichen der Männer warf, die er Gedaljas wegen erschlagen hatte, war jene, die König Asa im Krieg gegen Bascha, den König von Israel, angelegt hatte. Diese füllte nun Jischmael, der Sohn Netanjas, mit Erschlagenen an.	9 And the pit into which Ismahel cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he slew because of Godolias, is the same that king Asa made, for fear of Baasa the king of Israel: the same did Ismahel the son of Nathanias fill with them that were slain.
10 Dann führte Jischmael den ganzen Rest des Volkes, der sich in Mizpa befand, gefangen hinweg: die Prinzessinnen und die ganze Bevölkerung, die in Mizpa geblieben war und die Nebusaradan, der Kommandant der Leibwache, Gedalja, dem Sohn Ahikams, unterstellt hatte. Jischmael, der Sohn Netanjas, führte sie gefangen weg und zog ab, um über die Grenze zu den Ammonitern zu gelangen.	10 Then Ismahel carried away captive all the remnant of the people that were in Masphath : the king's daughters, and all the people that remained in Masphath: whom Nabuzardan the general of the army had committed to Godolias the son of Ahicam. And Ismahel the son of Nathanias took them, and he departed, to go over to the children of Ammon.
11 Johanan, der Sohn Kareachs, und alle Truppenführer, die bei ihm waren, hörten von all dem Bösen, das Jischmael, der Sohn Netanjas, verübt hatte.	11 But Johanan the son of Caree, and all the captains of the fighting men that were with him, heard of the evil that Ismahel the son of Nathanias had done.
12 Sie nahmen ihre gesamte Mannschaft und zogen aus, um gegen Jischmael, den Sohn Netanjas, zu kämpfen. Am großen Wasser bei Gibeon stießen sie auf ihn.	12 And taking all the men, they went out to fight against Ismahel the son of Nathanias, and they found him by the great waters that are in Gabaon.
13 Als das ganze Volk, das bei Jischmael war, Johanan, den Sohn Kareachs, und in seiner Begleitung alle Truppenführer erblickte, war es hoch erfreut.	13 And when all the people that were with Ismahel, had seen Johanan the son of Caree, and all the captains of the fighting men that were with him, they rejoiced.
14 Alle Leute, die Jischmael gefangen von Mizpa weggeführt hatte, wandten sich von ihm ab und traten auf die Seite Johanans, des Sohnes Kareachs.	14 And all the people whom Ismahel had taken, went back to Masphath: and they returned and went to Johanan the son of Caree.
15 Jischmael aber, der Sohn Netanjas, konnte mit acht Mann dem Johanan entkommen und floh zu den Ammonitern.	15 But Ismahel the son of Nathanias fled with eight men, from the face of Johanan, and went to the children of Ammon.
16 Nun übernahm Johanan, der Sohn Kareachs, zusammen mit allen Truppenführern, die bei ihm waren, den ganzen Rest des Volkes, den Jischmael, der Sohn Netanjas, nach der Ermordung Gedaljas, des Sohnes Ahikams, aus Mizpa weggeführt hatte: Männer, [Krieger] Frauen, Kinder und Palastbeamte, die er nun alle von Gibeon wegbrachte.	16 Then Johanan the son of Caree, and all the captains of the soldiers that were with him, took all the remnant of the people whom they had recovered from Ismahel the son of Nathanias, from Masphath, after that he had slain Godolias the son of Ahicam: valiant men for war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gabaon:
17 Sie zogen ab und machten in der Herberge des Kimham bei Betlehem Halt, in der Absicht, nach Ägypten weiterzuziehen.	17 And they departed, and sat as sojourners in Chamaam, which is near Bethlehem: in order to go forward, and enter into Egypt,
18 So wollten sie den Chaldäern entkommen; denn sie hatten Angst vor ihnen, weil Jischmael, der Sohn Netanjas, Gedalja, den Sohn Ahikams, erschlagen hatte, den der König von Babel als Statthalter im Land eingesetzt hatte.	18 From the face of the Chaldeans: for they were afraid of them, because Ismahel the son of Nathanias had slain Godolias the son of Ahicam, whom the king of Babylon had made governor in the land of Juda.
