Livro dos Salmos 18

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ao mestre de canto. De Davi, servo do Senhor, que dirigiu as palavras deste cântico ao Senhor, no dia em que ficou livre de todos os seus inimigos e das mãos de Saul. Disse: Eu vos amo, Senhor, minha força!	1 [For the choirmaster Of David, the servant of Yahweh, who addressed the words of this song toYahweh when Yahweh had delivered him from all his enemies and from the clutches of Saul. He said:] I loveyou, Yahweh, my strength (my Saviour, you have saved me from violence).
2 O Senhor é o meu rochedo, minha fortaleza e meu libertador. Meu Deus é a minha rocha, onde encontro o meu refúgio, meu escudo, força de minha salvação e minha cidadela.	2 Yahweh is my rock and my fortress, my deliverer is my God. I take refuge in him, my rock, my shield,my saving strength, my stronghold, my place of refuge.
3 Invoco o Senhor, digno de todo louvor, e fico livre dos meus inimigos.	3 I call to Yahweh who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my foes.
4 Circundavam-me os vagalhões da morte, torrentes devastadoras me atemorizavam,	4 With Death's breakers closing in on me, Belial's torrents ready to swal ow me,
5 enlaçavam-se as cadeias da habitação dos mortos, a própria morte me prendia em suas redes.	5 Sheol's snares every side of me, Death's traps lying ahead of me,
6 Na minha angústia, invoquei o Senhor, gritei para meu Deus: do seu templo ele ouviu a minha voz, e o meu clamor em sua presença chegou aos seus ouvidos.	6 I called to Yahweh in my anguish, I cried for help to my God; from his Temple he heard my voice, mycry came to his ears.
7 A terra vacilou e tremeu, os fundamentos das montanhas fremiram, abalaram-se, porque Deus se abrasou em cólera:	7 Then the earth quaked and rocked, the mountains' foundations shuddered, they quaked at his blazinganger.
8 suas narinas exalavam fumaça; sua boca, fogo devorador, brasas incandescentes.	8 Smoke rose from his nostrils, from his mouth devouring fire (coals were kindled at it).
9 Ele inclinou os céus e desceu, calcando aos pés escuras nuvens.	9 He parted the heavens and came down, a storm-cloud underneath his feet;
10 Cavalgou sobre um querubim e voou, planando nas asas do vento.	10 riding one of the winged creatures, he flew, soaring on the wings of the wind.
11 Envolveu-se nas trevas como se fossem véu, fez para si uma tenda das águas tenebrosas, densas nuvens.	11 His covering he made the darkness, his pavilion dark waters and dense cloud.
12 Do esplendor de sua presença suas nuvens avançaram: saraiva e centelhas de fogo.	12 A brightness lit up before him, hail and blazing fire.
13 Dos céus trovejou o Senhor, o Altíssimo fez ressoar a sua voz.	13 Yahweh thundered from the heavens, the Most High made his voice heard.
14 Lançou setas e dispersou os inimigos, fulminou relâmpagos e os desbaratou.	14 He shot his arrows and scattered them, he hurled his lightning and routed them.
15 E apareceu descoberto o leito do mar, ficaram à vista os fundamentos da terra, ante a vossa ameaçadora voz, ó Senhor, ante o furacão de vossa cólera.	15 The very springs of ocean were exposed, the world's foundations were laid bare, at your roaring,Yahweh, at the blast of breath from your nostrils!
16 Do alto estendeu a sua mão e me pegou, e retirou-me das águas profundas,	16 He reached down from on high, snatched me up, pulled me from the watery depths,
17 livrou-me de inimigo poderoso, dos meus adversários mais fortes do que eu.	17 rescued me from my mighty foe, from my enemies who were stronger than I.
18 Investiram contra mim no dia do meu infortúnio, mas o Senhor foi o meu arrimo;	18 They assailed me on my day of disaster but Yahweh was there to support me;
19 pôs-me a salvo e livrou-me, porque me ama.	19 he freed me, set me at large, he rescued me because he loves me.
20 O Senhor me tratou segundo a minha inocência, retribuiu-me segundo a pureza de minhas mãos,	20 Yahweh rewards me for my uprightness, as my hands are pure, so he repays me,
21 porque guardei os caminhos do Senhor e não pequei separando-me do meu Deus.	21 since I have kept the ways of Yahweh, and not fallen away from my God.
22 Tenho diante dos olhos todos os seus preceitos e não me desvio de suas leis.	22 His judgements are al before me, his statutes I have not put away from me.
23 Ando irrepreensivelmente diante dele, guardando-me do meu pecado.	23 I am blameless before him, I keep myself clear of evil.
24 O Senhor retribuiu-me segundo a minha justiça, segundo a pureza de minhas mãos diante dos seus olhos.	24 So Yahweh repaid me for acting uprightly because he could see I was pure.
25 Com quem é bondoso vos mostrais bondoso, com o homem íntegro vos mostrais íntegro;	25 You are faithful to the faithful, blameless with the blameless,
26 puro com quem é puro; prudente com quem é astuto.	26 sincere to the sincere, but cunning to the crafty,
27 Os humildes salvais, os semblantes soberbos humilhais.	27 you save a people that is humble and humiliate those with haughty looks.
28 Senhor, sois vós que fazeis brilhar o meu farol, sois vós que dissipais as minhas trevas.	28 Yahweh, you yourself are my lamp, my God lights up my darkness;
29 Convosco afrontarei batalhões, com meu Deus escalarei muralhas.	29 with you I storm the rampart, with my God I can scale any wal .
30 Os caminhos de Deus são perfeitos, a palavra do Senhor é pura. Ele é o escudo de todos os que nele se refugiam.	30 This God, his way is blameless; the word of Yahweh is refined in the furnace, for he alone is theshield of al who take refuge in him.
31 Pois quem é Deus senão o Senhor? Quem é o rochedo, senão o nosso Deus?	31 For who is God but Yahweh, who is a rock but our God?
32 É Deus quem me cinge de coragem e aplana o meu caminho.	32 This God who girds me with strength, who makes my way free from blame,
33 Torna os meus pés velozes como os das gazelas e me instala nas alturas.	33 who makes me as swift as a deer and sets me firmly on the heights,
34 Adestra minhas mãos para o combate e meus braços para o tiro de arco.	34 who trains my hands for battle, my arms to bend a bow of bronze.
35 Vós me dais o escudo que me salva. Vossa destra me sustém, e vossa bondade me engrandece.	35 You give me your invincible shield (your right hand upholds me) you never cease to listen to me,
36 Alargais o caminho a meus passos, para meus pés não resvalarem.	36 you give me the strides of a giant, give me ankles that never weaken.
37 Dou caça aos inimigos e os alcanço, e não volto sem que os tenha aniquilado.	37 I pursue my enemies and overtake them, not turning back til they are annihilated;
38 De tal sorte os despedaço, que não mais poderão levantar-se: eles ficam caídos a meus pés.	38 I strike them down and they cannot rise, they fall, they are under my feet.
39 Vós me cingis de coragem para a luta e ante mim dobrais os meus adversários.	39 You have girded me with strength for the fight, bent down my assailants beneath me,
40 Afugentais da minha presença os meus inimigos e reduzis ao silêncio os que me aborrecem.	40 made my enemies retreat before me; and those who hate me I destroy.
41 Gritam por socorro, mas não há quem os salve; clamam ao Senhor, mas não responde...	41 They cry out, there is no one to save; to Yahweh, but no answer comes.
42 Eu os disperso como o pó que o vento leva, e os esmago como o barro das estradas.	42 I crumble them like dust before the wind, trample them like the mud of the streets.
43 Vós me livrais das revoltas do povo e me colocais à frente das nações; povos que eu desconhecia se tornaram meus servos.	43 You free me from the quarrels of my people, you place me at the head of the nations, a people I didnot know are now my servants;
44 Gente estranha me serve abnegadamente e me obedece à primeira intimação.	44 foreigners come wooing my favour, no sooner do they hear than they obey me;
45 Gente estranha desfalece e sai tremendo de seus esconderijos.	45 foreigners grow faint of heart, they come trembling out of their fastnesses.
46 Viva o Senhor e bendito seja o meu rochedo! Exaltado seja Deus, que me salva!	46 Life to Yahweh! Blessed be my rock! Exalted be the God of my salvation,
47 Deus, que me proporciona a vingança e avassala nações a meus pés.	47 the God who gives me vengeance, and subjects whole peoples to me,
48 Sois vós que me libertais dos meus inimigos, me exaltais acima dos meus adversários e me salvais do homem violento.	48 who rescues me from my raging enemies. You lift me high above those who attack me, you deliverme from the man of violence.
49 Por isso vos louvarei, ó Senhor, entre as nações e celebrarei o vosso nome.	49 For this I wil praise you, Yahweh, among the nations, and sing praise to your name.
50 Ele prepara grandes vitórias a seu rei e faz misericórdia a seu ungido, a Davi e a sua descendência para sempre.	50 He saves his king time after time, displays his faithful love for his anointed, for David and his heirs forever.
