1 Et egressa est sors secunda filiorum Simeon per cognationes suas : fuitque hæreditas1 The second lot fell to Simeon. The heritage of the clans of the tribe of Simeonites lay within that of the Judahites.
2 eorum in medio possessionis filiorum Juda : Bersabee et Sabee et Molada2 For their heritage they received Beer-sheba, Shema, Moladah,
3 et Hasersual, Bala et Asem3 Hazar-shual, Balah, Ezem,
4 et Eltholad, Bethul et Harma4 Eltolad, Bethul, Hormah,
5 et Siceleg et Bethmarchaboth et Hasersusa5 Ziklag, Bethmar-caboth, Hazar-susah,
6 et Bethlebaoth et Sarohen : civitates tredecim, et villæ earum.6 Beth-lebaoth and Sharuhen; thirteen cities and their villages.
7 Ain et Remmon et Athar et Asan : civitates quatuor, et villæ earum :7 Also En-rimmon, Ether and Ashan; four cities and their villages,
8 omnes viculi per circuitum urbium istarum usque ad Baalath Beer Ramath contra australem plagam. Hæc est hæreditas filiorum Simeon juxta cognationes suas,8 besides all the villages around these cities as far as Baalath-beer (that is, Ramoth-negeb). This was the heritage of the clans of the tribe of the Simeonites.
9 in possessione et funiculo filiorum Juda : quia major erat, et idcirco filii Simeon possederunt in medio hæreditatis eorum.
9 This heritage of the Simeonites was within the confines of the Judahites; for since the portion of the latter was too large for them, the Simeonites obtained their heritage within it.
10 Ceciditque sors tertia filiorum Zabulon per cognationes suas : factus est terminus possessionis eorum usque Sarid.10 The third lot fell to the clans of the Zebulunites. The limit of their heritage was at Sarid.
11 Ascenditque de mari et Merala, et pervenit in Debbaseth, usque ad torrentem qui est contra Jeconam.11 Their boundary went up west. . . and through Mareal, reaching Dabbesheth and the wadi that is near Jokneam.
12 Et revertitur de Sared contra orientem in fines Ceseleththabor : et egreditur ad Dabereth, ascenditque contra Japhie.12 From Sarid eastward it ran to the district of Chisloth-tabor, on to Daberath, and up to Japhia.
13 Et inde pertransit usque ad orientalem plagam Gethepher et Thacasin : et egreditur in Remmon, Amthar et Noa.13 From there it continued eastward to Gath-hepher and to Eth-kazin, extended to Rimmon, and turned to Neah.
14 Et circuit ad aquilonem Hanathon : suntque egressus ejus vallis Jephthaël,14 Skirting north of Hannathon, the boundary ended at the valley of Iphtahel.
15 et Cateth et Naalol et Semeron et Jerala et Bethlehem : civitates duodecim, et villæ earum.15 Thus, with Kattath, Nahalal, Shimron, Idalah and Bethlehem, there were twelve cities and their villages
16 Hæc est hæreditas tribus filiorum Zabulon per cognationes suas, urbes et viculi earum.
16 to comprise the heritage of the clans of the Zebulunites.
17 Issachar egressa est sors quarta per cognationes suas :17 The fourth lot fell to Issachar. The territory of the clans of the Issacharites
18 fuitque ejus hæreditas Jezraël et Casaloth et Sunem18 included Jezreel, Chesulloth, Shunem,
19 et Hapharaim et Seon, et Anaharath19 Hapharaim, Shion, Anaharath,
20 et Rabboth et Cesion, Abes,20 Rabbith, Kishion, Ebez,
21 et Rameth, et Engannim, et Enhadda et Bethpheses.21 Remeth, En-gannim, En-haddah and Beth-pazzez.
22 Et pervenit terminus ejus usque Thabor et Sehesima et Bethsames, eruntque exitus ejus Jordanis : civitates sedecim, et villæ earum.22 The boundary reached Tabor, Shahazumah and Beth-shemesh, ending at the Jordan. These sixteen cities and their villages
23 Hæc est possessio filiorum Issachar per cognationes suas, urbes et viculi earum.
23 were the heritage of the clans of the Issacharites.
24 Ceciditque sors quinta tribui filiorum Aser per cognationes suas :24 The fifth lot fell to the clans of the tribe of the Asherites.
25 fuitque terminus eorum Halcath et Chali et Beten et Axaph25 Their territory included Helkath, Hali, Beten, Achshaph,
26 et Elmelech et Amaad et Messal : et pervenit usque ad Carmelum maris et Sihor et Labanath,26 Allammelech, Amad and Mishal, and reached Carmel on the west, and Shihor-libnath.
27 ac revertitur contra orientem Bethdagon : et pertransit usque Zabulon et vallem Jephthaël contra aquilonem in Bethemec et Nehiel. Egrediturque ad lævam Cabul,27 In the other direction, it ran eastward of Beth-dagon, reached Zebulun and the valley of Iphtahel; then north of Beth-emek and Neiel, it extended to Cabul,
28 et Abran et Rohob et Hamon et Cana, usque ad Sidonem magnam.28 Mishal, Abdon, Rehob, Hammon and Kanah, near Greater Sidon.
29 Revertiturque in Horma usque ad civitatem munitissimam Tyrum, et usque Hosa : eruntque exitus ejus in mare de funiculo Achziba :29 Then the boundary turned back to Ramah and to the fortress city of Tyre; thence it cut back to Hosah and ended at the sea. Thus, with Mahalab, Achzib,
30 et Amma et Aphec et Rohob : civitates viginti duæ, et villæ earum.30 Ummah, Acco, Aphek and Rehob, there were twenty-two cities and their villages
31 Hæc est possessio filiorum Aser per cognationes suas, urbesque et viculi earum.
31 to comprise the heritage of the clans of the tribe of the Asherites.
32 Filiorum Nephthali sexta sors cecidit per familias suas :32 The sixth lot fell to the Naphtalites. The boundary of the clans of the Naphtalites
33 et cœpit terminus de Heleph et Elon in Saananim, et Adami, quæ est Neceb, et Jebnaël usque Lecum : et egressus eorum usque ad Jordanem :33 extended from Heleph, from the oak at Zaanannim to Lakkum, including Adami-nekeb and Jabneel, and ended at the Jordan.
34 revertiturque terminus contra occidentem in Azanotthabor, atque inde egreditur in Hucuca, et pertransit in Zabulon contra meridiem, et in Aser contra occidentem, et in Juda ad Jordanem contra ortum solis :34 In the opposite direction, westerly, it ran through Aznoth-tabor and from there extended to Hukkok; it touched Zebulun on the south, Asher on the west, and the Jordan on the east.
35 civitates munitissimæ, Assedim, Ser, et Emath, et Reccath et Cenereth,35 The fortified cities were Ziddim, Zer, Hammath, Rakkath, Chinnereth,
36 et Edema et Arama, Asor36 Adamah, Ramah, Hazor,
37 et Cedes et Edrai, Enhasor,37 Kedesh, Edrei, En-hazor,
38 et Jeron et Magdalel, Horem et Bethanath et Bethsames : civitates decem et novem, et villæ earum.38 Yiron, Migdal-el, Horem, Beth-anath and Beth-shemesh; nineteen cities and their villages,
39 Hæc est possessio tribus filiorum Nephthali per cognationes suas, urbes et viculi earum.
39 to comprise the heritage of the clans of the tribe of the Naphtalites.
40 Tribui filiorum Dan per familias suas egressa est sors septima :40 The seventh lot fell to the clans of the tribe of Danites.
41 et fuit terminus possessionis ejus Sara et Esthaol, et Hirsemes, id est, civitas solis.41 Their heritage was the territory of Zorah, Eshtaol, Ir-shemesh,
42 Selebin et Ajalon et Jethela,42 Shaalabbin, Aijalon, Ithlah,
43 Elon et Themna et Acron,43 Elon, Timnah, Ekron,
44 Elthece, Gebbethon et Balaath,44 Eltekoh, Gibbethon, Baalath,
45 et Jud et Bane et Barach et Gethremmon :45 Jehud, Bene-berak, Gath-rimmon,
46 et Mejarcon et Arecon, cum termino qui respicit Joppen,46 Me-jarkon and Rakkon, with the coast at Joppa.
47 et ipso fine concluditur. Ascenderuntque filii Dan, et pugnaverunt contra Lesem, ceperuntque eam : et percusserunt eam in ore gladii, et possederunt, et habitaverunt in ea, vocantes nomen ejus Lesem Dan, ex nomine Dan patris sui.47 But the territory of the Danites was too small for them; so the Danites marched up and attacked Leshem, which they captured and put to the sword. Once they had taken possession of Leshem, they renamed the settlement after their ancestor Dan.
48 Hæc est possessio tribus filiorum Dan, per cognationes suas, urbes et viculi earum.
48 These cities and their villages were the heritage of the clans of the tribe of the Danites.
49 Cumque complesset sorte dividere terram singulis per tribus suas, dederunt filii Israël possessionem Josue filio Nun in medio sui,49 When the last of them had received the portions of the land they were to inherit, the Israelites assigned a heritage in their midst to Joshua, son of Nun.
50 juxta præceptum Domini, urbem quam postulavit Thamnath Saraa in monte Ephraim : et ædificavit civitatem, habitavitque in ea.50 In obedience to the command of the LORD, they gave him the city which he requested, Timnah-serah in the mountain region of Ephraim. He rebuilt the city and made it his home.
51 Hæ sunt possessiones, quas sorte diviserunt Eleazar sacerdos, et Josue filius Nun, et principes familiarum ac tribuum filiorum Israël in Silo, coram Domino ad ostium tabernaculi testimonii : partitique sunt terram.51 These are the final portions into which Eleazar the priest, Joshua, son of Nun, and the heads of families in the tribes of the Israelites divided the land by lot in the presence of the LORD, at the door of the meeting tent in Shiloh.
