NOVA VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
Sicque completum est omne opus, quod fecit Salomon in do mo Domini. Intulit igitur Salomon omnia, quae voverat David pater suus, argentum et aurum, et universa vasa posuit in thesauris domus Dei.
Thus all the work done by Solomon for the Temple of Yahweh was completed, and Solomon brought inthe gifts which his father David had consecrated; and he had the silver, the gold and all the utensils put into thetreasuries of the Temple of God.
Post quae congregavit maiores natu Israel et cunctos principes tribuum et capita familiarum de filiis Israel in Ierusalem, ut adducerent arcam foederis Domini de civitate David, quae est Sion.2 Solomon then assembled the elders of Israel to Jerusalem, al the tribal chiefs, the princes of thefamilies of Israel, to bring the ark of the covenant of Yahweh up from the City of David, that is, Zion.
Venerunt igitur ad regem omnes viri Israel in die sollemni mensis septimi.3 Al the men of Israel assembled round the king at the time of the feast, that is, in the seventh month.
Cumque venissent cuncti seniorum Israel, portaverunt Levitae arcam4 When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the Levites took up the ark;
et intulerunt eam et tabernaculum conventus et omnem paraturam tabernaculi. Porro omnia vasa sanctuarii, quae erant in tabernaculo, portaverunt sacerdotes levitici generis.5 they brought up the ark and the Tent of Meeting and al the sacred utensils which were in the Tent; thelevitical priests brought them up.
Rex autem Salomon et universus coetus Israel, omnes, qui fuerunt congregati ad eum ante arcam, immolabant oves et boves absque ullo numero: tanta enim erat multitudo victimarum.
King Solomon and the whole assembly of Israel present with him before the ark sacrificed countless,innumerable sheep and oxen.
Et intulerunt sacerdotes arcam foederis Domini in locum suum ad Dabir templi, in sancta sanctorum subter alas cherubim,7 The priests brought the ark of the covenant of Yahweh to its place, in the Debir of the Temple, that is, inthe Holy of Holies, under the wings of the winged creatures;
ita ut cherubim expanderent alas suas super locum, in quo posita erat arca, et ipsam arcam tegerent cum vectibus suis ab alto.8 for they spread their wings over the place where the ark stood, forming a canopy over the ark and itsshafts.
Vectium autem, quibus portabatur arca, quia paululum longiores erant, capita parebant ante Dabir; si vero quis erat extrinsecus eos videre non poterat. Fuit itaque arca ibi usque in praesentem diem.9 The shafts were so long, however, that the ends of the shafts of the ark could be seen in front of theHoly Place in front of the Debir, though they could not be seen from outside. They are still there today.
Nihilque erat aliud in arca, nisi duae tabulae, quas posuerat Moyses in Horeb, quando fecit Dominus foedus cum filiis Israel egredientibus ex Aegypto.
There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets which Moses had placed in it at Horeb, whenYahweh made a covenant with the Israelites when they came out of Egypt.
Egressis autem sacerdotibus de sanctuario — omnes enim sacerdotes, qui ibi potuerant inveniri, sanctificati sunt, non observantes vices et ministeriorum ordinem,11 Now when the priests came out of the Holy Place -- for al the priests present had sanctifiedthemselves regardless of the orders to which they belonged,
et Levitae cantores, omnes, qui sub Asaph erant et qui sub Heman et qui sub Idithun, filii et fratres eorum, vestiti byssinis, cymbalis et psalteriis et citharis stabant ad orientalem plagam altaris, et cum eis sacerdotes centum viginti canentes tubis —12 and al the levitical singers, Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun with their sons and brothers, dressed inlinen, were standing to the east of the altar with cymbals, lyres and harps and with them one hundred and twentypriests blowing the trumpets,
igitur cunctis pariter et tubis et voce et cymbalis et organis et diversi generis musicorum concinentibus et vocem in sublime tollentibus, cum una voce Dominum laudare coepissent et dicere: “ Confitemini Domino quoniam bonus, quoniam in aeternum misericordia eius ”, impleta est domus Dei nube,13 and the harmony between trumpeters and singers was such that only one melody could be heard asthey praised and gave thanks to Yahweh -- and the singing began, to the accompaniment of trumpets, cymbalsand musical instruments, and they praised Yahweh 'for he is good, for his faithful love is everlasting' -- then theTemple was fil ed with the cloud of the glory of Yahweh,
nec potuerunt sacerdotes stare et ministrare propter nubem; compleverat enim gloria Domini domum Dei.
and because of the cloud the priests could not stay and perform their duties. For the glory of Yahwehfilled the Temple of God.
