NOVA VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
Et coepit Salomon aedificare domum Domini in Ierusalem in monte Moria, qui demonstratus fuerat a David patre eius, in loco, quem paraverat David in area Ornan Iebusaei.1 Solomon then began building the house of Yahweh in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah where David hisfather had had a vision -- on the site which David had prepared -- on the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Coepit autem aedificare mense secundo anno quarto regni sui.
He began building it on the second day of the second month of the fourth year of his reign.
Et hae sunt mensurae, quas statuit Salomon, ut aedificaret domum Dei: longitudinis cubiti in mensura prima sexaginta, latitudinis cubiti viginti.3 These are the dimensions which Solomon fixed for the structure of the house of God: its length incubits, according to the old standard, was sixty cubits and its width twenty cubits;
Porticum vero ante frontem, quae tendebatur in longum, iuxta mensuram latitudinis domus, cubitorum viginti; porro altitudo centum viginti cubitorum erat. Et deauravit eam intrinsecus auro mundissimo.4 and the portico in front of the house was the ful width of the house, that is, twenty cubits, and its heightwas a hundred and twenty cubits; on the inside he overlaid it with pure gold.
Domum quoque maiorem texit tabulis ligneis abiegnis et laminas auri obryzi affixit per totum; scalpsitque in eis palmas et quasi catenulas se invicem complectentes.5 The Great Hall he lined with juniper, which he overlaid with fine gold and ornamented with palm treesand festoons,
Stravit quoque pavimentum templi pretiosissimo marmore decore multo.6 and he decorated the hall beautifully with precious stones and with gold from Parvaim,
overlaying the hal , its beams and its thresholds, its walls and its doors, with gold and engraving thewal s with great winged creatures.
Fecit quoque domum sancti sanctorum: longitudinem iuxta latitudinem domus cubitorum viginti et latitudinem similiter viginti cubitorum; et laminis auri optimi texit eam quasi talentis sescentis.8 He also made the Holy of Holies, the length of which corresponded to the width of the Great Hal , beingtwenty cubits, with a width of twenty cubits, and this he overlaid with fine gold weighing six hundred talents,
Cenacula quoque texit auro.
while the weight of the gold nails was fifty shekels. He also overlaid the upper rooms with gold.
Fecit etiam in domo sancti sanctorum cherubim duos opere statuario et texit eos auro.10 In the Holy of Holies he model ed two winged creatures of wrought metal work and overlaid them withgold.
Alae cherubim viginti cubitis extendebantur, ita ut una ala haberet cubitos quinque et tangeret parietem domus, et altera quinque cubitos habens alam tangeret alterius cherub.11 The total span of their wings was twenty cubits; one wing, being five cubits long, touched the wal ofthe house and the other wing, being five cubits long, touched the wing of the other winged creature;
Similiter cherub alterius ala quinque habebat cubitos et tangebat parietem, et ala eius altera quinque cubitorum alam cherub alterius contingebat.12 while one wing of the other, five cubits long, touched the other wall of the house and the other wing,five cubits long, touched the wing of the other winged creature.
The spread of these creatures' wings was twenty cubits. They stood in an upright position, with theirfaces towards the Hall.
He also made the Curtain of violet, scarlet, crimson and fine linen, working a design of wingedcreatures on it.
In front of the Hal he made two pil ars thirty-five cubits high, and on the top of each a capitalmeasuring five cubits.
He made festoons, in the Debir, to go at the tops of the pil ars, and made a hundred pomegranates togo on the festoons.
Ipsas quoque columnas posuit ante faciem templi, unam a dextris et alteram a sinistris; eam, quae a dextris erat, vocavit Iachin et, quae ad laevam, Booz.
He erected the pil ars in front of the Temple, one on the right, the other on the left; the one on the righthe cal ed Jachin and the one on the left, Boaz.
