1 Avendo infatti la legge solo un'ombra dei beni futuri e non la realtà stessa delle cose, non ha il potere di condurre alla perfezione, per mezzo di quei sacrifici che si offrono continuamente di anno in anno, coloro che si accostano a Dio.	1 For the law contains the shadow of future good things, not the very image of these things. So, by the very same sacrifices which they offer ceaselessly each year, they can never cause these to approach perfection.
2 Altrimenti non si sarebbe forse cessato di offrirli, dal momento che i fedeli, purificati una volta per tutte, non avrebbero ormai più alcuna coscienza dei peccati?	2 Otherwise, they would have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, once cleansed, would no longer be conscious of any sin.
3 Invece per mezzo di quei sacrifici si rinnova di anno in anno il ricordo dei peccati,	3 Instead, in these things, a commemoration of sins is made every year.
4 poiché è impossibile eliminare i peccati con il sangue di tori e di capri.	4 For it is impossible for sins to be taken away by the blood of oxen and goats.
5 Per questo, entrando nel mondo, Cristo dice: 'Tu non hai voluto né sacrificio né offerta, un corpo invece mi hai preparato'.	5 For this reason, as Christ enters into the world, he says: “Sacrifice and oblation, you did not want. But you have fashioned a body for me.
6 'Non hai gradito né olocausti né sacrifici per il peccato'.	6 Holocausts for sin were not pleasing to you.
7 'Allora ho detto: Ecco, io vengo - poiché di me sta scritto nel rotolo del libro - per fare, o Dio, la tua volontà'.	7 Then I said, ‘Behold, I draw near.’ At the head of the book, it has been written of me that I should do your will, O God.”
8 Dopo aver detto prima 'non hai voluto e non hai gradito né sacrifici né offerte, né olocausti né sacrifici per il peccato', cose tutte che vengono offerte secondo la legge,	8 In the above, by saying, “Sacrifices, and oblations, and holocausts for sin, you did not want, nor are those things pleasing to you, which are offered according to the law;

10 Ed è appunto per quella volontà che noi siamo stati santificati, per mezzo dell'offerta del corpo di Gesù Cristo, fatta una volta per sempre.	10 For by this will, we have been sanctified, through the one time oblation of the body of Jesus Christ.
11 Ogni sacerdote si presenta giorno per giorno a celebrare il culto e ad offrire molte volte gli stessi sacrifici che non possono mai eliminare i peccati.	11 And certainly, every priest stands by, ministering daily, and frequently offering the same sacrifices, which are never able to take away sins.
12 Egli al contrario, avendo offerto un solo sacrificio per i peccati una volta per sempre 'si è assiso alla destra di Dio',	12 But this man, offering one sacrifice for sins, sits at the right hand of God forever,
13 aspettando ormai solo che 'i suoi nemici vengano posti sotto i suoi piedi'.	13 awaiting that time when his enemies will be made his footstool.

15 Questo ce lo attesta anche lo Spirito Santo. Infatti, dopo aver detto:	15 Now the Holy Spirit also testifies for us about this. For afterward, he said:
16 'Questa è l'alleanza che io stipulerò' con loro 'dopo quei giorni, dice il Signore: io porrò le mie leggi nei loro cuori e le imprimerò nella loro mente',	16 “And this is the testament which I will commit to them after those days, says the Lord. I will instill my laws in their hearts, and I will inscribe my laws on their minds.
17 dice: 'E non mi ricorderò più dei loro peccati e delle loro iniquità'.	17 And I will no longer remember their sins and iniquities.”
18 Ora, dove c'è il perdono di queste cose, non c'è più bisogno di offerta per il peccato.	18 Now, when there is a remission of these things, there is no longer an oblation for sin.
19 Avendo dunque, fratelli, piena libertà di entrare nel santuario per mezzo del sangue di Gesù,	19 And so, brothers, have faith in the entrance into the Holy of Holies by the blood of Christ,
20 per questa via nuova e vivente che egli ha inaugurato per noi attraverso il velo, cioè la sua carne;	20 and in the new and living Way, which he has initiated for us by the veil, that is, by his flesh,
21 avendo noi un sacerdote grande sopra la casa di Dio,	21 and in the Great Priest over the house of God.
22 accostiamoci con cuore sincero nella pienezza della fede, con i cuori purificati da ogni cattiva coscienza e il corpo lavato con acqua pura.	22 So, let us draw near with a true heart, in the fullness of faith, having hearts cleansed from an evil conscience, and bodies absolved with clean water.
23 Manteniamo senza vacillare la professione della nostra speranza, perché è fedele colui che ha promesso.	23 Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope, without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful.
24 Cerchiamo anche di stimolarci a vicenda nella carità e nelle opere buone,	24 And let us be considerate of one another, so as to prompt ourselves to charity and to good works,
25 senza disertare le nostre riunioni, come alcuni hanno l'abitudine di fare, ma invece esortandoci a vicenda; tanto più che potete vedere come il giorno si avvicina.	25 not deserting our assembly, as some are accustomed to do, but consoling one another, and even more so as you see that the day is approaching.
26 Infatti, se pecchiamo volontariamente dopo aver ricevuto la conoscenza della verità, non rimane più alcun sacrificio per i peccati,	26 For if we sin willingly, after receiving knowledge of the truth, there is no sacrifice remaining for sins,
27 ma soltanto una terribile attesa del giudizio e la vampa di un fuoco che dovrà divorare i ribelli.	27 but instead, a certain terrible expectation of judgment, and the rage of a fire that shall consume its adversaries.
28 Quando qualcuno ha violato la legge di Mosè, 'viene messo a morte' senza pietà 'sulla parola di due o tre testimoni'.	28 If someone dies for acting against the law of Moses, and is shown no compassion because of two or three witnesses,
29 Di quanto maggior castigo allora pensate che sarà ritenuto degno chi avrà calpestato il Figlio di Dio e ritenuto profano quel sangue dell'alleanza dal quale è stato un giorno santificato e avrà disprezzato lo Spirito della grazia?	29 how much more, do you think, someone would deserve worse punishments, if he has tread upon the Son of God, and has treated the blood of the testament, by which he was sanctified, as unclean, and has acted with disgrace toward the Spirit of grace?
30 Conosciamo infatti colui che ha detto: 'A me la vendetta! Io darò la retribuzione!' E ancora: 'Il Signore giudicherà il suo popolo'.	30 For we know that he has said: “Vengeance is mine, and I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.”
31 È terribile cadere nelle mani del Dio vivente!	31 It is dreadful to fall into the hands of the living God.
32 Richiamate alla memoria quei primi giorni nei quali, dopo essere stati illuminati, avete dovuto sopportare una grande e penosa lotta,	32 But call to mind the former days, in which, after being enlightened, you endured a great struggle of afflictions.
33 ora esposti pubblicamente a insulti e tribolazioni, ora facendovi solidali con coloro che venivano trattati in questo modo.	33 And certainly, in one way, by insults and tribulations, you were made a spectacle, but in another way, you became the companions of those who were the object of such behavior.
34 Infatti avete preso parte alle sofferenze dei carcerati e avete accettato con gioia di esser spogliati delle vostre sostanze, sapendo di possedere beni migliori e più duraturi.	34 For you even had compassion on those who were imprisoned, and you accepted with gladness being deprived of your goods, knowing that you have a better and more lasting substance.
35 Non abbandonate dunque la vostra franchezza, alla quale è riservata una grande ricompensa.	35 And so, do not lose your confidence, which has a great reward.
36 Avete solo bisogno di costanza, perché dopo aver fatto la volontà di Dio possiate raggiungere la promessa.	36 For it is necessary for you to be patient, so that, by doing the will of God, you may receive the promise.
37 Ancora 'un poco', infatti, 'un poco appena, e colui che deve venire, verrà e non tarderà'.	37 “For, in a little while, and somewhat longer, he who is to come will return, and he will not delay.
38 'Il mio giusto vivrà mediante la fede; ma se indietreggia, la mia anima non si compiace in lui'.	38 For my just man lives by faith. But if he were to draw himself back, he would not please my soul.”
39 Noi però non siamo di quelli che indietreggiano a loro perdizione, bensì uomini di fede per la salvezza della nostra anima.	39 So then, we are not sons who are drawn away to perdition, but we are sons of faith toward the securing of the soul.
