1 Se c'è pertanto qualche consolazione in Cristo, se c'è conforto derivante dalla carità, se c'è qualche comunanza di spirito, se ci sono sentimenti di amore e di compassione,	1 So if in Christ there is anything that will move you, any incentive in love, any fel owship in the Spirit, anywarmth or sympathy -- I appeal to you,
2 rendete piena la mia gioia con l'unione dei vostri spiriti, con la stessa carità, con i medesimi sentimenti.	2 make my joy complete by being of a single mind, one in love, one in heart and one in mind.
3 Non fate nulla per spirito di rivalità o per vanagloria, ma ciascuno di voi, con tutta umiltà, consideri gli altri superiori a se stesso,	3 Nothing is to be done out of jealousy or vanity; instead, out of humility of mind everyone should givepreference to others,
4 senza cercare il proprio interesse, ma anche quello degli altri.	4 everyone pursuing not selfish interests but those of others.
5 Abbiate in voi gli stessi sentimenti che furono in Cristo Gesù,	5 Make your own the mind of Christ Jesus:
6 il quale, pur essendo di natura divina, non considerò un tesoro geloso la sua uguaglianza con Dio;	6 Who, being in the form of God, did not count equality with God something to be grasped.
7 ma spogliò se stesso, assumendo la condizione di servo e divenendo simile agli uomini; apparso in forma umana,	7 But he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, becoming as human beings are; and being in everyway like a human being,
8 umiliò se stesso facendosi obbediente fino alla morte e alla morte di croce.	8 he was humbler yet, even to accepting death, death on a cross.
9 Per questo Dio l'ha esaltato e gli ha dato il nome che è al di sopra di ogni altro nome;	9 And for this God raised him high, and gave him the name which is above al other names;
10 perché nel nome di Gesù 'ogni ginocchio si pieghi' nei cieli, sulla terra e sotto terra;	10 so that al beings in the heavens, on earth and in the underworld, should bend the knee at the name ofJesus
11 e 'ogni lingua proclami' che Gesù Cristo è il Signore, a gloria di Dio Padre.	11 and that every tongue should acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
12 Quindi, miei cari, obbedendo come sempre, non solo come quando ero presente, ma molto più ora che sono lontano, attendete alla vostra salvezza con timore e tremore.	12 So, my dear friends, you have always been obedient; your obedience must not be limited to timeswhen I am present. Now that I am absent it must be more in evidence, so work out your salvation in fear andtrembling.
13 È Dio infatti che suscita in voi il volere e l'operare secondo i suoi benevoli disegni.	13 It is God who, for his own generous purpose, gives you the intention and the powers to act.
14 Fate tutto senza mormorazioni e senza critiche,	14 Let your behaviour be free of murmuring and complaining
15 perché siate irreprensibili e semplici, figli di Dio immacolati in mezzo a una generazione perversa e degenere, nella quale dovete splendere come astri nel mondo,	15 so that you remain faultless and pure, unspoilt children of God surrounded by a deceitful andunderhand brood, shining out among them like bright stars in the world,
16 tenendo alta la parola di vita. Allora nel giorno di Cristo, io potrò vantarmi di non aver corso invano né invano faticato.	16 proffering to it the Word of life. Then I shall have reason to be proud on the Day of Christ, for it wil notbe for nothing that I have run the race and toiled so hard.
17 E anche se il mio sangue deve essere versato in libagione sul sacrificio e sull'offerta della vostra fede, sono contento, e ne godo con tutti voi.	17 Indeed, even if my blood has to be poured as a libation over your sacrifice and the offering of yourfaith, then I shal be glad and join in your rejoicing-
18 Allo stesso modo anche voi godetene e rallegratevi con me.	18 and in the same way, you must be glad and join in my rejoicing.
19 Ho speranza nel Signore Gesù di potervi presto inviare Timòteo, per essere anch'io confortato nel ricevere vostre notizie.	19 I hope, in the Lord Jesus, to send Timothy to you soon, so that my mind may be set at rest when I hearhow you are.
20 Infatti, non ho nessuno d'animo uguale al suo e che sappia occuparsi così di cuore delle cose vostre,	20 There is nobody else that I can send who is like him and cares as sincerely for your well-being;
21 perché tutti cercano i propri interessi, non quelli di Gesù Cristo.	21 they al want to work for themselves, not for Jesus Christ.
22 Ma voi conoscete la buona prova da lui data, poiché ha servito il vangelo con me, come un figlio serve il padre.	22 But you know what sort of person he has proved himself, working with me for the sake of the gospellike a son with his father.
23 Spero quindi di mandarvelo presto, non appena avrò visto chiaro nella mia situazione.	23 That is the man, then, that I am hoping to send to you immediately I can make out what is going tohappen to me;

29 Accoglietelo dunque nel Signore con piena gioia e abbiate grande stima verso persone come lui;	29 Welcome him in the Lord, then, with al joy; hold people like him in honour,
30 perché ha rasentato la morte per la causa di Cristo, rischiando la vita, per sostituirvi nel servizio presso di me.	30 because it was for Christ's work that he came so near to dying, risking his life to do the duty to mewhich you could not do yourselves.
