BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Allora Gesù fu condotto dallo Spirito nel deserto per esser tentato dal diavolo.	1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit out into the desert to be put to the test by the devil.
2 E dopo aver digiunato quaranta giorni e quaranta notti, ebbe fame.	2 He fasted for forty days and forty nights, after which he was hungry,
3 Il tentatore allora gli si accostò e gli disse: "Se sei Figlio di Dio, di' che questi sassi diventino pane".	3 and the tester came and said to him, 'If you are Son of God, tel these stones to turn into loaves.'
4 Ma egli rispose: "Sta scritto: 'Non di solo pane vivrà l'uomo, ma di ogni parola che esce dalla bocca di Dio".'	4 But he replied, 'Scripture says: Human beings live not on bread alone but on every word that comesfrom the mouth of God.'
5 Allora il diavolo lo condusse con sé nella città santa, lo depose sul pinnacolo del tempio	5 The devil then took him to the holy city and set him on the parapet of the Temple.
6 e gli disse: "Se sei Figlio di Dio, gettati giù, poiché sta scritto: 'Ai suoi angeli darà ordini a tuo riguardo, ed essi ti sorreggeranno con le loro mani, perché non abbia a urtare contro un sasso il tuo piede'".	6 'If you are Son of God,' he said, 'throw yourself down; for scripture says: He has given his angels ordersabout you, and they will carry you in their arms in case you trip over a stone.'
7 Gesù gli rispose: "Sta scritto anche: 'Non tentare il Signore Dio tuo'".	7 Jesus said to him, 'Scripture also says: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'
8 Di nuovo il diavolo lo condusse con sé sopra un monte altissimo e gli mostrò tutti i regni del mondo con la loro gloria e gli disse:	8 Next, taking him to a very high mountain, the devil showed him al the kingdoms of the world and theirsplendour.
9 "Tutte queste cose io ti darò, se, prostrandoti, mi adorerai".	9 And he said to him, 'I wil give you al these, if you fal at my feet and do me homage.'
10 Ma Gesù gli rispose: "Vattene, satana! Sta scritto: 'Adora il Signore Dio tuo e a lui solo rendi culto'".	10 Then Jesus replied, 'Away with you, Satan! For scripture says: The Lord your God is the one to whomyou must do homage, him alone you must serve.'
11 Allora il diavolo lo lasciò ed ecco angeli gli si accostarono e lo servivano.	11 Then the devil left him, and suddenly angels appeared and looked after him.
12 Avendo intanto saputo che Giovanni era stato arrestato, Gesù si ritirò nella Galilea	12 Hearing that John had been arrested he withdrew to Galilee,
13 e, lasciata Nàzaret, venne ad abitare a Cafàrnao, presso il mare, nel territorio di Zàbulon e di Nèftali,	13 and leaving Nazara he went and settled in Capernaum, beside the lake, on the borders of Zebulun andNaphtali.
14 perché si adempisse ciò che era stato detto per mezzo del profeta Isaia:	14 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah:
15 'Il paese di Zàbulon e il paese di Nèftali, sulla via del mare, al di là del Giordano, Galilea delle genti;'	15 Land of Zebulun! Land of Naphtali! Way of the sea beyond Jordan. Galilee of the nations!
16 'il popolo immerso nelle tenebre ha visto una grande luce; su quelli che dimoravano in terra e ombra di morte una luce si è levata.'	16 The people that lived in darkness have seen a great light; on those who lived in a country of shadowdark as death a light has dawned.
17 Da allora Gesù cominciò a predicare e a dire: "Convertitevi, perché il regno dei cieli è vicino".	17 From then onwards Jesus began his proclamation with the message, 'Repent, for the kingdom ofHeaven is close at hand.'
18 Mentre camminava lungo il mare di Galilea vide due fratelli, Simone, chiamato Pietro, e Andrea suo fratello, che gettavano la rete in mare, poiché erano pescatori.	18 As he was walking by the Lake of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon, who was cal ed Peter, and hisbrother Andrew; they were making a cast into the lake with their net, for they were fishermen.
19 E disse loro: "Seguitemi, vi farò pescatori di uomini".	19 And he said to them, 'Come after me and I wil make you fishers of people.'
20 Ed essi subito, lasciate le reti, lo seguirono.	20 And at once they left their nets and followed him.
21 Andando oltre, vide altri due fratelli, Giacomo di Zebedèo e Giovanni suo fratello, che nella barca insieme con Zebedèo, loro padre, riassettavano le reti; e li chiamò.	21 Going on from there he saw another pair of brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John;they were in their boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he cal ed them.
22 Ed essi subito, lasciata la barca e il padre, lo seguirono.	22 And at once, leaving the boat and their father, they fol owed him.
23 Gesù andava attorno per tutta la Galilea, insegnando nelle loro sinagoghe e predicando la buona novella del regno e curando ogni sorta di malattie e di infermità nel popolo.	23 He went round the whole of Galilee teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of thekingdom and curing al kinds of disease and il ness among the people.
24 La sua fama si sparse per tutta la Siria e così condussero a lui tutti i malati, tormentati da varie malattie e dolori, indemoniati, epilettici e paralitici; ed egli li guariva.	24 His fame spread throughout Syria, and those who were suffering from diseases and painful complaintsof one kind or another, the possessed, epileptics, the paralysed, were all brought to him, and he cured them.
25 E grandi folle cominciarono a seguirlo dalla Galilea, dalla Decàpoli, da Gerusalemme, dalla Giudea e da oltre il Giordano.	25 Large crowds fol owed him, coming from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judaea and Transjordan.
