BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Dio disse a Giacobbe: "Alzati, va' a Betel e abita là; costruisci in quel luogo un altare al Dio che ti è apparso quando fuggivi Esaù, tuo fratello".	1 God said to Jacob, 'Move on, go to Bethel and settle there. Make an altar there for the God whoappeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.'
2 Allora Giacobbe disse alla sua famiglia e a quanti erano con lui: "Eliminate gli dèi stranieri che avete con voi, purificatevi e cambiate gli abiti.	2 Jacob said to his family and to all who were with him, 'Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you;cleanse yourselves, and change your clothes.
3 Poi alziamoci e andiamo a Betel, dove io costruirò un altare al Dio che mi ha esaudito al tempo della mia angoscia e che è stato con me nel cammino che ho percorso".	3 We must move on and go to Bethel. There I shall make an altar for the God who heard me when I wasin distress, and gave me his help on the journey I made.'
4 Essi consegnarono a Giacobbe tutti gli dèi stranieri che possedevano e i pendenti che avevano agli orecchi; Giacobbe li sotterrò sotto la quercia presso Sichem.	4 They gave Jacob al the foreign gods in their possession, and the earrings that they were wearing.Jacob buried them under the oak tree near Shechem.
5 Poi levarono l'accampamento e un terrore molto forte assalì i popoli che stavano attorno a loro, così che non inseguirono i figli di Giacobbe.	5 They broke camp; a divine terror struck the towns round about, and no one pursued the sons ofJacob.
6 Giacobbe e tutta la gente ch'era con lui arrivarono a Luz, cioè Betel, che è nel paese di Canaan.	6 When Jacob arrived at Luz in Canaan -- that is, Bethel-and al the people with him,
7 Qui egli costruì un altare e chiamò quel luogo "El-Betel", perché là Dio gli si era rivelato, quando sfuggiva al fratello.	7 he built an altar there and named the place El-Bethel, since it was there that God had appeared to himwhen he was fleeing from his brother.
8 Allora morì Dèbora, la nutrice di Rebecca, e fu sepolta al disotto di Betel, ai piedi della quercia, che perciò si chiamò Quercia del Pianto.	8 Deborah, who had been Rebekah's nurse, died and was buried below Bethel, under the oak tree; sothey named it the Oak of Tears.
9 Dio apparve un'altra volta a Giacobbe, quando tornava da Paddan-Aram, e lo benedisse.	9 God again appeared to Jacob on his return from Paddan-Aram, and blessed him.
10 Dio gli disse: "Il tuo nome è Giacobbe. Non ti chiamerai più Giacobbe, ma Israele sarà il tuo nome". Così lo si chiamò Israele.	10 God said to him, 'Your name is Jacob, but from now on you wil be cal ed not Jacob but Israel.' Thushe came by the name Israel.
11 Dio gli disse: "Io sono Dio onnipotente. Sii fecondo e diventa numeroso, popolo e assemblea di popoli verranno da te, re usciranno dai tuoi fianchi.	11 God said to him, 'I am El Shaddai. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation, indeed an assembly of nations,wil descend from you, and kings will issue from your loins.
12 Il paese che ho concesso ad Abramo e a Isacco darò a te e alla tua stirpe dopo di te darò il paese".	12 The country which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I now give to you; and this country I shal give toyour descendants after you.'
13 Dio scomparve da lui, nel luogo dove gli aveva parlato.	13 Then God went up from him.
14 Allora Giacobbe eresse una stele, dove gli aveva parlato, una stele di pietra, e su di essa fece una libazione e versò olio.	14 Jacob raised a monument at the spot where he had spoken to him, a standing-stone, on which hemade a libation and poured oil.
15 Giacobbe chiamò Betel il luogo dove Dio gli aveva parlato.	15 Jacob named the place Bethel where God had spoken to him.
16 Poi levarono l'accampamento da Betel. Mancava ancora un tratto di cammino per arrivare ad Èfrata, quando Rachele partorì ed ebbe un parto difficile.	16 They left Bethel, and while they were stil some distance from Ephrath, Rachel went into labour, andher pains were severe.
17 Mentre penava a partorire, la levatrice le disse: "Non temere: anche questo è un figlio!".	17 When her labour was at its hardest, the midwife said to her, 'Do not worry, this is going to be anotherboy.'
18 Mentre esalava l'ultimo respiro, perché stava morendo, essa lo chiamò Ben-Oni, ma suo padre lo chiamò Beniamino.	18 At the moment when she breathed her last, for she was dying, she named him Ben-Oni. His father,however, named him Benjamin.
19 Così Rachele morì e fu sepolta lungo la strada verso Èfrata, cioè Betlemme.	19 So Rachel died and was buried on the road to Ephrath, now Bethlehem.
20 Giacobbe eresse sulla sua tomba una stele. Questa stele della tomba di Rachele esiste fino ad oggi.	20 Jacob raised a monument on her grave, that same monument of Rachel's Tomb which is theretoday.
21 Poi Israele levò l'accampamento e piantò la tenda al di là di Migdal-Eder.	21 Israel left and pitched his tent beyond Migdal-Eder.
22 Mentre Israele abitava in quel paese, Ruben andò a unirsi con Bila, concubina del padre, e Israele lo venne a sapere. I figli di Giacobbe furono dodici.	22 While Israel was living in that district, Reuben went and slept with Bilhah his father's concubine, andIsrael found out. The sons of Jacob were now twelve.
23 I figli di Lia: il primogenito di Giacobbe, Ruben, poi Simeone, Levi, Giuda, Ìssacar e Zàbulon.	23 The sons of Leah: Jacob's eldest son Reuben, then Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun.
24 I figli di Rachele: Giuseppe e Beniamino.	24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
25 I figli di Bila, schiava di Rachele: Dan e Nèftali.	25 The sons of Bilhah, Rachel's slave-girl: Dan and Naphtali.
26 I figli di Zilpa, schiava di Lia: Gad e Aser. Questi sono i figli di Giacobbe che gli nacquero in Paddan-Aram.	26 The sons of Zilpah, Leah's slave-girl: Gad and Asher. These were the sons born to Jacob in Paddan-Aram.
27 Poi Giacobbe venne da suo padre Isacco a Mamre, a Kiriat-Arba, cioè Ebron, dove Abramo e Isacco avevano soggiornato come forestieri.	27 Jacob came home to his father Isaac at Mamre, at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- where Abraham andIsaac had stayed.
28 Isacco raggiunse l'età di centottat'anni.	28 Isaac was one hundred and eighty years old
29 Poi Isacco spirò, morì e si riunì al suo parentado, vecchio e sazio di giorni. Lo seppellirono i suoi figli Esaù e Giacobbe.	29 when he breathed his last. He died and was gathered to his people, an old man who had enjoyed hisful span of life. His sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
