| 1 Ma Giacobbe venne a sapere che i figli di Làbano dicevano: "Giacobbe si è preso quanto era di nostro padre e con quanto era di nostro padre si è fatta tutta questa fortuna". | 1 Now Jacob heard that the sons of Laban were saying, "Jacob has taken all that was our fathers; and from what was our father's he has gained all this wealth." |
| 2 Giacobbe osservò anche la faccia di Làbano e si accorse che non era più verso di lui come prima. | 2 And Jacob saw that Laban did not regard him with favor as before. |
| 3 Il Signore disse a Giacobbe: "Torna al paese dei tuoi padri, nella tua patria e io sarò con te". | 3 Then the LORD said to Jacob, "Return to the land of your fathers and to your kindred, and I will be with you." |
| 4 Allora Giacobbe mandò a chiamare Rachele e Lia, in campagna presso il suo gregge | 4 So Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah into the field where his flock was, |
| 5 e disse loro: "Io mi accorgo dal volto di vostro padre che egli verso di me non è più come prima; eppure il Dio di mio padre è stato con me. | 5 and said to them, "I see that your father does not regard me with favor as he did before. But the God of my father has been with me. |
| 6 Voi stesse sapete che io ho servito vostro padre con tutte le forze, | 6 You know that I have served your father with all my strength; |
| 7 mentre vostro padre si è beffato di me e ha cambiato dieci volte il mio salario; ma Dio non gli ha permesso di farmi del male. | 7 yet your father has cheated me and changed my wages ten times, but God did not permit him to harm me. |
| 8 Se egli diceva: Le bestie punteggiate saranno il tuo salario, tutto il gregge figliava bestie punteggiate; se diceva: Le bestie striate saranno il tuo salario, allora tutto il gregge figliava bestie striate. | 8 If he said, 'The spotted shall be your wages,' then all the flock bore spotted; and if he said, 'The striped shall be your wages,' then all the flock bore striped. |
| 9 Così Dio ha sottratto il bestiame a vostro padre e l'ha dato a me. | 9 Thus God has taken away the cattle of your father, and given them to me. |
| 10 Una volta, quando il piccolo bestiame va in calore, io in sogno alzai gli occhi e vidi che i capri in procinto di montare le bestie erano striati, punteggiati e chiazzati. | 10 In the mating season of the flock I lifted up my eyes, and saw in a dream that the he-goats which leaped upon the flock were striped, spotted, and mottled. |
| 11 L'angelo di Dio mi disse in sogno: Giacobbe! Risposi: Eccomi. | 11 Then the angel of God said to me in the dream, 'Jacob,' and I said, 'Here I am!' |
| 12 Riprese: Alza gli occhi e guarda: tutti i capri che montano le bestie sono striati, punteggiati e chiazzati, perché ho visto quanto Làbano ti fa. | 12 And he said, 'Lift up your eyes and see, all the goats that leap upon the flock are striped, spotted, and mottled; for I have seen all that Laban is doing to you. |
| 13 Io sono il Dio di Betel, dove tu hai unto una stele e dove mi hai fatto un voto. Ora alzati, parti da questo paese e torna nella tua patria!". | 13 I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar and made a vow to me. Now arise, go forth from this land, and return to the land of your birth.'" |
| 14 Rachele e Lia gli risposero: "Abbiamo forse ancora una parte o una eredità nella casa di nostro padre? | 14 Then Rachel and Leah answered him, "Is there any portion or inheritance left to us in our father's house? |
| 15 Non siamo forse tenute in conto di straniere da parte sua, dal momento che ci ha vendute e si è anche mangiato il nostro danaro? | 15 Are we not regarded by him as foreigners? For he has sold us, and he has been using up the money given for us. |
16 Tutta la ricchezza che Dio ha sottratto a nostro padre è nostra e dei nostri figli. Ora fa' pure quanto Dio ti ha detto".
| 16 All the property which God has taken away from our father belongs to us and to our children; now then, whatever God has said to you, do." |
| 17 Allora Giacobbe si alzò, caricò i figli e le mogli sui cammelli | 17 So Jacob arose, and set his sons and his wives on camels; |
| 18 e condusse via tutto il bestiame e tutti gli averi che si era acquistati, il bestiame che si era acquistato in Paddan-Aram, per ritornare da Isacco, suo padre, nel paese di Canaan. | 18 and he drove away all his cattle, all his livestock which he had gained, the cattle in his possession which he had acquired in Paddan-aram, to go to the land of Canaan to his father Isaac. |
| 19 Làbano era andato a tosare il gregge e Rachele rubò gli idoli che appartenevano al padre. | 19 Laban had gone to shear his sheep, and Rachel stole her father's household gods. |
| 20 Giacobbe eluse l'attenzione di Làbano l'Arameo, non avvertendolo che stava per fuggire; | 20 And Jacob outwitted Laban the Aramean, in that he did not tell him that he intended to flee. |
21 così poté andarsene con tutti i suoi averi. Si alzò dunque, passò il fiume e si diresse verso le montagne di Gàlaad.
| 21 He fled with all that he had, and arose and crossed the Euphrates, and set his face toward the hill country of Gilead. |
| 22 Al terzo giorno fu riferito a Làbano che Giacobbe era fuggito. | 22 When it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob had fled, |
| 23 Allora egli prese con sé i suoi parenti, lo inseguì per sette giorni di cammino e lo raggiunse sulle montagne di Gàlaad. | 23 he took his kinsmen with him and pursued him for seven days and followed close after him into the hill country of Gilead. |
| 24 Ma Dio venne da Làbano l'Arameo in un sogno notturno e gli disse: "Bada di non dir niente a Giacobbe, proprio nulla!". | 24 But God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream by night, and said to him, "Take heed that you say not a word to Jacob, either good or bad." |
| 25 Làbano andò dunque a raggiungere Giacobbe; ora Giacobbe aveva piantato la tenda sulle montagne e Làbano si era accampato con i parenti sulle montagne di Gàlaad. | 25 And Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the hill country, and Laban with his kinsmen encamped in the hill country of Gilead. |
| 26 Disse allora Làbano a Giacobbe: "Che hai fatto? Hai eluso la mia attenzione e hai condotto via le mie figlie come prigioniere di guerra! | 26 And Laban said to Jacob, "What have you done, that you have cheated me, and carried away my daughters like captives of the sword? |
| 27 Perché sei fuggito di nascosto, mi hai ingannato e non mi hai avvertito? Io ti avrei congedato con festa e con canti, a suon di timpani e di cetre! | 27 Why did you flee secretly, and cheat me, and did not tell me, so that I might have sent you away with mirth and songs, with tambourine and lyre? |
| 28 E non mi hai permesso di baciare i miei figli e le mie figlie! Certo hai agito in modo insensato. | 28 And why did you not permit me to kiss my sons and my daughters farewell? Now you have done foolishly. |
| 29 Sarebbe in mio potere di farti del male, ma il Dio di tuo padre mi ha parlato la notte scorsa: Bada di non dir niente a Giacobbe, né in bene né in male! | 29 It is in my power to do you harm; but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, 'Take heed that you speak to Jacob neither good nor bad.' |
| 30 Certo, sei partito perché soffrivi di nostalgia per la casa di tuo padre; ma perché mi hai rubato i miei dèi?". | 30 And now you have gone away because you longed greatly for your father's house, but why did you steal my gods?" |
| 31 Giacobbe rispose a Làbano e disse: "Perché avevo paura e pensavo che mi avresti tolto con la forza le tue figlie. | 31 Jacob answered Laban, "Because I was afraid, for I thought that you would take your daughters from me by force. |
| 32 Ma quanto a colui presso il quale tu troverai i tuoi dèi, non resterà in vita! Alla presenza dei nostri parenti riscontra quanto vi può essere di tuo presso di me e prendilo". Giacobbe non sapeva che li aveva rubati Rachele. | 32 Any one with whom you find your gods shall not live. In the presence of our kinsmen point out what I have that is yours, and take it." Now Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen them. |
| 33 Allora Làbano entrò nella tenda di Giacobbe e poi nella tenda di Lia e nella tenda delle due schiave, ma non trovò nulla. Poi uscì dalla tenda di Lia ed entrò nella tenda di Rachele. | 33 So Laban went into Jacob's tent, and into Leah's tent, and into the tent of the two maidservants, but he did not find them. And he went out of Leah's tent, and entered Rachels. |
| 34 Rachele aveva preso gli idoli e li aveva messi nella sella del cammello, poi vi si era seduta sopra, così Làbano frugò in tutta la tenda, ma non li trovò. | 34 Now Rachel had taken the household gods and put them in the camel's saddle, and sat upon them. Laban felt all about the tent, but did not find them. |
35 Essa parlò al padre: "Non si offenda il mio signore se io non posso alzarmi davanti a te, perché ho quello che avviene di regola alle donne". Làbano cercò dunque il tutta la tenda e non trovò gli idoli.
| 35 And she said to her father, "Let not my lord be angry that I cannot rise before you, for the way of women is upon me." So he searched, but did not find the household gods. |
| 36 Giacobbe allora si adirò e apostrofò Làbano, al quale disse: "Qual è il mio delitto, qual è il mio peccato, perché ti sia messo a inseguirmi? | 36 Then Jacob became angry, and upbraided Laban; Jacob said to Laban, "What is my offense? What is my sin, that you have hotly pursued me? |
| 37 Ora che hai frugato tra tutti i miei oggetti, che hai trovato di tutte le robe di casa tua? Mettilo qui davanti ai miei e tuoi parenti e siano essi giudici tra noi due. | 37 Although you have felt through all my goods, what have you found of all your household goods? Set it here before my kinsmen and your kinsmen, that they may decide between us two. |
| 38 Vent'anni ho passato con te: le tue pecore e le tue capre non hanno abortito e i montoni del tuo gregge non ho mai mangiato. | 38 These twenty years I have been with you; your ewes and your she-goats have not miscarried, and I have not eaten the rams of your flocks. |
| 39 Nessuna bestia sbranata ti ho portato: io ne compensavo il danno e tu reclamavi da me ciò che veniva rubato di giorno e ciò che veniva rubato di notte. | 39 That which was torn by wild beasts I did not bring to you; I bore the loss of it myself; of my hand you required it, whether stolen by day or stolen by night. |
| 40 Di giorno mi divorava il caldo e di notte il gelo e il sonno fuggiva dai miei occhi. | 40 Thus I was; by day the heat consumed me, and the cold by night, and my sleep fled from my eyes. |
| 41 Vent'anni sono stato in casa tua: ho servito quattordici anni per le tue due figlie e sei anni per il tuo gregge e tu hai cambiato il mio salario dieci volte. | 41 These twenty years I have been in your house; I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your flock, and you have changed my wages ten times. |
42 Se non fosse stato con me il Dio di mio padre, il Dio di Abramo e il Terrore di Isacco, tu ora mi avresti licenziato a mani vuote; ma Dio ha visto la mia afflizione e la fatica delle mie mani e la scorsa notte egli ha fatto da arbitro".
| 42 If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had not been on my side, surely now you would have sent me away empty-handed. God saw my affliction and the labor of my hands, and rebuked you last night." |
| 43 Làbano allora rispose e disse a Giacobbe: "Queste figlie sono mie figlie e questi figli sono miei figli; questo bestiame è il mio bestiame e quanto tu vedi è mio. E che potrei fare oggi a queste mie figlie o ai figli che esse hanno messi al mondo? | 43 Then Laban answered and said to Jacob, "The daughters are my daughters, the children are my children, the flocks are my flocks, and all that you see is mine. But what can I do this day to these my daughters, or to their children whom they have borne? |
| 44 Ebbene, vieni, concludiamo un'alleanza io e te e ci sia un testimonio tra me e te". | 44 Come now, let us make a covenant, you and I; and let it be a witness between you and me." |
| 45 Giacobbe prese una pietra e la eresse come una stele. | 45 So Jacob took a stone, and set it up as a pillar. |
| 46 Poi disse ai suoi parenti: "Raccogliete pietre", e quelli presero pietre e ne fecero un mucchio. Poi mangiarono là su quel mucchio. | 46 And Jacob said to his kinsmen, "Gather stones," and they took stones, and made a heap; and they ate there by the heap. |
| 47 Làbano lo chiamò Iegar-Saaduta, mentre Giacobbe lo chiamò Gal-Ed. | 47 Laban called it Jegar-sahadutha: but Jacob called it Galeed. |
| 48 Làbano disse: "Questo mucchio sia oggi un testimonio tra me e te"; per questo lo chiamò Gal-Ed | 48 Laban said, "This heap is a witness between you and me today." Therefore he named it Galeed, |
| 49 e anche Mizpa, perché disse: "Il Signore starà di vedetta tra me e te, quando noi non ci vedremo più l'un l'altro. | 49 and the pillar Mizpah, for he said, "The LORD watch between you and me, when we are absent one from the other. |
| 50 Se tu maltratterai le mie figlie e se prenderai altre mogli oltre le mie figlie, non un uomo sarà con noi, ma bada, Dio sarà testimonio tra me e te". | 50 If you ill-treat my daughters, or if you take wives besides my daughters, although no man is with us, remember, God is witness between you and me." |
| 51 Soggiunse Làbano a Giacobbe: "Ecco questo mucchio ed ecco questa stele, che io ho eretta tra me e te. | 51 Then Laban said to Jacob, "See this heap and the pillar, which I have set between you and me. |
| 52 Questo mucchio è testimonio e questa stele è testimonio che io giuro di non oltrepassare questo mucchio dalla tua parte e che tu giuri di non oltrepassare questo mucchio e questa stele dalla mia parte per fare il male. | 52 This heap is a witness, and the pillar is a witness, that I will not pass over this heap to you, and you will not pass over this heap and this pillar to me, for harm. |
| 53 Il Dio di Abramo e il Dio di Nacor siano giudici tra di noi". Giacobbe giurò per il Terrore di suo padre Isacco. | 53 The God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us." So Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac, |
| 54 Poi offrì un sacrificio sulle montagne e invitò i suoi parenti a prender cibo. Essi mangiarono e passarono la notte sulle montagne. | 54 and Jacob offered a sacrifice on the mountain and called his kinsmen to eat bread; and they ate bread and tarried all night on the mountain. |
| 55 Early in the morning Laban arose, and kissed his grandchildren and his daughters and blessed them; then he departed and returned home. |
