BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Gli anni della vita di Sara furono centoventisette: questi furono gli anni della vita di Sara.	1 The length of Sarah's life was a hundred and twenty-seven years.
2 Sara morì a Kiriat-Arba, cioè Ebron, nel paese di Canaan, e Abramo venne a fare il lamento per Sara e a piangerla.	2 She died at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- in the land of Canaan, and Abraham proceeded to mournand bewail her.
3 Poi Abramo si staccò dal cadavere di lei e parlò agli Hittiti:	3 Then rising from beside his dead, Abraham spoke to the Hittites,
4 "Io sono forestiero e di passaggio in mezzo a voi. Datemi la proprietà di un sepolcro in mezzo a voi, perché io possa portar via la salma e seppellirla".	4 'I am a stranger resident here,' he said. 'Let me have a burial site of my own here, so that I canremove my dead for burial.'
5 Allora gli Hittiti risposero:	5 The Hittites replied to Abraham,
6 "Ascolta noi, piuttosto, signore: tu sei un principe di Dio in mezzo a noi: seppellisci il tuo morto nel migliore dei nostri sepolcri. Nessuno di noi ti proibirà di seppellire la tua defunta nel suo sepolcro".	6 'Please listen to us, my lord, we regard you as a prince of God; bury your dead in the best of ourtombs; not one of us would refuse you his tomb for you to bury your dead.'
7 Abramo si alzò, si prostrò davanti alla gente del paese, davanti agli Hittiti e parlò loro:	7 At this, Abraham rose and bowed low to the local people, the Hittites,
8 "Se è secondo il vostro desiderio che io porti via il mio morto e lo seppellisca, ascoltatemi e insistete per me presso Efron, figlio di Zocar,	8 and pleaded with them as fol ows, 'If you consent to my removing my dead for burial, you must agreeto intercede for me with Ephron son of Zohar,
9 perché mi dia la sua caverna di Macpela, che è all'estremità del suo campo. Me la ceda per il suo prezzo intero come proprietà sepolcrale in mezzo a voi".	9 for him to let me have the cave he owns at Machpelah, which is on the edge of his field. Let him sel itto me in your presence at its ful price, for a burial site of my own.'
10 Ora Efron stava seduto in mezzo agli Hittiti. Efron l'Hittita rispose ad Abramo, mentre lo ascoltavano gli Hittiti, quanti entravano per la porta della sua città, e disse:	10 Now Ephron was sitting among the Hittites, and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearingof the Hittites, of al the inhabitants of his town.
11 "Ascolta me, piuttosto, mio signore: ti cedo il campo con la caverna che vi si trova, in presenza dei figli del mio popolo te la cedo: seppellisci il tuo morto".	11 'No, my lord, listen to me,' he said. 'I give you the field and the cave in it; I make this gift in thepresence of my kinsmen. Bury your dead.'
12 Allora Abramo si prostrò a lui alla presenza della gente del paese.	12 Abraham bowed low to the local people
13 Parlò ad Efron, mentre lo ascoltava la gente del paese, e disse: "Se solo mi volessi ascoltare: io ti do il prezzo del campo. Accettalo da me, così io seppellirò là il mio morto".	13 and, in the hearing of the local people, replied to Ephron as fol ows, 'Be good enough to listen to me.I shal pay the price of the field; accept it from me and I shal bury my dead there.'
14 Efron rispose ad Abramo:	14 Ephron replied to Abraham,
15 "Ascolta me piuttosto, mio signore: un terreno del valore di quattrocento sicli d'argento che cosa è mai tra me e te? Seppellisci dunque il tuo morto".	15 'Please listen to me, my lord. What is a plot of land for four hundred shekels of silver between meand you? Bury your dead.'
16 Abramo accettò le richieste di Efron e Abramo pesò ad Efron il prezzo che questi aveva detto, mentre lo ascoltavano gli Hittiti, cioè quattrocento sicli d'argento, nella moneta corrente sul mercato.	16 Abraham agreed to Ephron's terms, and Abraham weighed out for Ephron the silver he hadstipulated in the hearing of the Hittites, namely four hundred shekels of silver, according to the currentcommercial rate.
17 Così il campo di Efron che si trovava in Macpela, di fronte a Mamre, il campo e la caverna che vi si trovava e tutti gli alberi che erano dentro il campo e intorno al suo limite,	17 Thus Ephron's field at Machpelah, facing Mamre -- the field and the cave in it and al the treesanywhere within the boundaries of the field -- passed
18 passarono in proprietà ad Abramo, alla presenza degli Hittiti, di quanti entravano nella porta della città.	18 into Abraham's possession in the sight of the Hittites, of al the inhabitants of his town.
19 Dopo, Abramo seppellì Sara, sua moglie, nella caverna del campo di Macpela di fronte a Mamre, cioè Ebron, nel paese di Canaan.	19 And after this, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave of the field of Machpelah, facing Mamre --now Hebron -- in the land of Canaan.
20 Il campo e la caverna che vi si trovava passarono dagli Hittiti ad Abramo in proprietà sepolcrale.	20 And so the field and the cave in it passed from the Hittites into Abraham's possession as a burial siteof his own.
