Lucas 16

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Decía también a sus discípulos: «Era un hombre rico que tenía un administrador a quien acusaron ante él de malbaratar su hacienda;	1 He also said to his disciples, 'There was a rich man and he had a steward who was denounced to himfor being wasteful with his property.
2 le llamó y le dijo: “¿Qué oigo decir de ti? Dame cuenta de tu administración, porque ya no podrás seguir administrando.”	2 He called for the man and said, "What is this I hear about you? Draw me up an account of yourstewardship because you are not to be my steward any longer."
3 Se dijo a sí mismo el administrador: “¿Qué haré, pues mi señor me quita la administración? Cavar, no puedo; mendigar, me da vergüenza.	3 Then the steward said to himself, "Now that my master is taking the stewardship from me, what am I todo? Dig? I am not strong enough. Go begging? I should be too ashamed.
4 Ya sé lo que voy a hacer, para que cuando sea removido de la administración me reciban en sus casas.”	4 Ah, I know what I wil do to make sure that when I am dismissed from office there will be some towelcome me into their homes."
5 «Y convocando uno por uno a los deudores de su señor, dijo al primero: “¿Cuánto debes a mi señor?”	5 'Then he called his master's debtors one by one. To the first he said, "How much do you owe mymaster?"
6 Respondió: “Cien medidas de aceite.” El le dijo: “Toma tu recibo, siéntate en seguida y escribe cincuenta.”	6 "One hundred measures of oil," he said. The steward said, "Here, take your bond; sit down and quickly write fifty."
7 Después dijo a otro: “Tú, ¿cuánto debes?” Contestó: “Cien cargas de trigo.” Dícele: “Toma tu recibo y escribe ochenta.”	7 To another he said, "And you, sir, how much do you owe?" "One hundred measures of wheat," hesaid. The steward said, "Here, take your bond and write eighty."
8 «El señor alabó al administrador injusto porque había obrado astutamente, pues los hijos de este mundo son más astutos con los de su generación que los hijos de la luz.	8 'The master praised the dishonest steward for his astuteness. For the children of this world are moreastute in dealing with their own kind than are the children of light.'
9 «Yo os digo: Haceos amigos con el Dinero injusto, para que, cuando llegue a faltar, os reciban en las eternas moradas.	9 'And so I tel you this: use money, tainted as it is, to win you friends, and thus make sure that when itfails you, they wil welcome you into eternal dwel ings.
10 El que es fiel en lo mínimo, lo es también en lo mucho; y el que es injusto en lo mínimo, también lo es en lo mucho.	10 Anyone who is trustworthy in little things is trustworthy in great; anyone who is dishonest in littlethings is dishonest in great.
11 Si, pues, no fuisteis fieles en el Dinero injusto, ¿quién os confiará lo verdadero?	11 If then you are not trustworthy with money, that tainted thing, who wil trust you with genuine riches?
12 Y si no fuisteis fieles con lo ajeno, ¿quién os dará lo vuestro?	12 And if you are not trustworthy with what is not yours, who will give you what is your very own?
13 «Ningún criado puede servir a dos señores, porque aborrecerá a uno y amará al otro; o bien se entregará a uno y despreciará al otro. No podéis servir a Dios y al Dinero».	13 'No servant can be the slave of two masters: he wil either hate the first and love the second, or beattached to the first and despise the second. You cannot be the slave both of God and of money.'
14 Estaban oyendo todas estas cosas los fariseos, que eran amigos del dinero, y se burlaban de él.	14 The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and jeered at him.
15 Y les dijo: «Vosotros sois los que os la dais de justos delante de los hombres, pero Dios conoce vuestros corazones; porque lo que es estimable para los hombres, es abominable ante Dios.	15 He said to them, 'You are the very ones who pass yourselves off as upright in people's sight, but Godknows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed in human eyes is loathsome in the sight of God.
16 «La Ley y los profetas llegan hasta Juan; desde ahí comienza a anunciarse la Buena Nueva del Reino de Dios, y todos se esfuerzan con violencia por entrar en él.	16 'Up to the time of John it was the Law and the Prophets; from then onwards, the kingdom of God hasbeen preached, and everyone is forcing their way into it.
17 «Más fácil es que el cielo y la tierra pasen, que no que caiga un ápice de la Ley.	17 'It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for one little stroke to drop out of the Law.
18 «Todo el que repudia a su mujer y se casa con otra, comete adulterio; y el que se casa con una repudiada por su marido, comete adulterio.	18 'Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another is guilty of adultery, and the man who marries awoman divorced by her husband commits adultery.
19 «Era un hombre rico que vestía de púrpura y lino, y celebraba todos los días espléndidas fiestas.	19 'There was a rich man who used to dress in purple and fine linen and feast magnificently every day.
20 Y uno pobre, llamado Lázaro, que, echado junto a su portal, cubierto de llagas,	20 And at his gate there used to lie a poor man called Lazarus, covered with sores,
21 deseaba hartarse de lo que caía de la mesa del rico... pero hasta los perros venían y le lamían las llagas.	21 who longed to fil himself with what fel from the rich man's table. Even dogs came and licked hissores.
22 Sucedió, pues, que murió el pobre y fue llevado por los ángeles al seno de Abraham. Murió también el rico y fue sepultado.	22 Now it happened that the poor man died and was carried away by the angels into Abraham'sembrace. The rich man also died and was buried.
23 «Estando en el Hades entre tormentos, levantó los ojos y vio a lo lejos a Abraham, y a Lázaro en su seno.	23 'In his torment in Hades he looked up and saw Abraham a long way off with Lazarus in his embrace.
24 Y, gritando, dijo: “Padre Abraham, ten compasión de mí y envía a Lázaro a que moje en agua la punta de su dedo y refresque mi lengua, porque estoy atormentado en esta llama.”	24 So he cried out, "Father Abraham, pity me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water andcool my tongue, for I am in agony in these flames."
25 Pero Abraham le dijo: “Hijo, recuerda que recibiste tus bienes durante tu vida y Lázaro, al contrario, sus males; ahora, pues, él es aquí consolado y tú atormentado.	25 Abraham said, "My son, remember that during your life you had your fill of good things, just asLazarus his fill of bad. Now he is being comforted here while you are in agony.
26 Y además, entre nosotros y vosotros se interpone un gran abismo, de modo que los que quieran pasar de aquí a vosotros, no puedan; ni de ahí puedan pasar donde nosotros.”	26 But that is not al : between us and you a great gulf has been fixed, to prevent those who want tocross from our side to yours or from your side to ours."
27 «Replicó: “Con todo, te ruego, padre, que le envíes a la casa de mi padre,	27 'So he said, "Father, I beg you then to send Lazarus to my father's house,
28 porque tengo cinco hermanos, para que les dé testimonio, y no vengan también ellos a este lugar de tormento.”	28 since I have five brothers, to give them warning so that they do not come to this place of torment too."
29 Díjole Abraham: “Tienen a Moisés y a los profetas; que les oigan.”	29 Abraham said, "They have Moses and the prophets, let them listen to them."
30 El dijo: “No, padre Abraham; sino que si alguno de entre los muertos va donde ellos, se convertirán.”	30 The rich man replied, "Ah no, father Abraham, but if someone comes to them from the dead, they willrepent."
31 Le contestó: “Si no oyen a Moisés y a los profetas, tampoco se convencerán, aunque un muerto resucite.”»	31 Then Abraham said to him, "If they wil not listen either to Moses or to the prophets, they wil not beconvinced even if someone should rise from the dead."
