1 Yahveh habló a Moisés y le dijo:	1 The LORD said to Moses,
2 «Envía algunos hombres, uno por cada tribu paterna, para que exploren la tierra de Canaán que voy a dar a los israelitas. Que sean todos principales entre ellos.»	2 "Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I give to the people of Israel; from each tribe of their fathers shall you send a man, every one a leader among them."
3 Los envió Moisés, según la orden de Yahveh, desde el desierto de Parán: todos ellos eran jefes de los israelitas.	3 So Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran, according to the command of the LORD, all of them men who were heads of the people of Israel.
4 Sus nombres eran éstos: por la tribu de Rubén, Sammúa, hijo de Zakkur;	4 And these were their names: From the tribe of Reuben, Shammu-a the son of Zaccur;
5 por la tribu de Simeón, Safat, hijo de Jorí;	5 from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;
6 por la tribu de Judá, Caleb, hijo de Yefunné;	6 from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;
7 por la tribu de Isacar, Yigal, hijo de José;	7 from the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph;
8 por la tribu de Efraím, Hosea, hijo de Nun;	8 from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun;
9 por la tribu de Benjamín, Paltí, hijo de Rafú;	9 from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;
10 por la tribu de Zabulón, Gaddiel, hijo de Sodí;	10 from the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi;
11 por la tribu de José: por la tribu de Manasés, Gaddí, hijo de Susí;	11 from the tribe of Joseph (that is from the tribe of Manasseh), Gaddi the son of Susi;
12 por la tribu de Dan, Ammiel, hijo de Guemalí;	12 from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli;
13 por la tribu de Aser, Setur, hijo de Miguel;	13 from the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;
14 por la tribu de Neftalí, Najbí, hijo de Vafsí;	14 from the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi;
15 por la tribu de Gad, Gueuel, hijo de Makí.	15 from the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.
16 Esos son los nombres de los que envió Moisés a explorar el país. Pero a Hosea, hijo de Nun, Moisés le llamo Josué.	16 These were the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.
17 Moisés los envió a explorar el país de Canaán, y les dijo: «Subid ahí al Négueb y después subiréis a la montaña.	17 Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, "Go up into the Negeb yonder, and go up into the hill country,
18 Reconoced el país, a ver qué tal es, y el pueblo que lo habita, si es fuerte o débil, escaso o numeroso;	18 and see what the land is, and whether the people who dwell in it are strong or weak, whether they are few or many,
19 y qué tal es el país en que viven, bueno o malo; cómo son las ciudades en que habitan, abiertas o fortificadas;	19 and whether the land that they dwell in is good or bad, and whether the cities that they dwell in are camps or strongholds,
20 y cómo es la tierra, fértil o pobre, si tiene árboles o no. Tened valor y traed algunos productos del país.» Era el tiempo de las primeras uvas.	20 and whether the land is rich or poor, and whether there is wood in it or not. Be of good courage, and bring some of the fruit of the land." Now the time was the season of the first ripe grapes.
21 Subieron y exploraron el país, desde el desierto de Sin hasta Rejob, a la Entrada de Jamat.	21 So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, near the entrance of Hamath.
22 Subieron por el Négueb y llegaron hasta Hebrón, donde residían Ajimán, Sesay y Talmay, los descendientes de Anaq. Hebrón había sido fundada siete años antes que Tanis de Egipto.	22 They went up into the Negeb, and came to Hebron; and Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, were there. (Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
23 Llegaron al Valle de Eskol y cortaron allí un sarmiento con un racimo de uva, que transportaron con una pértiga entre dos, y también granadas e higos.	23 And they came to the Valley of Eshcol, and cut down from there a branch with a single cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a pole between two of them; they brought also some pomegranates and figs.
24 Al lugar aquél se le llamó Valle de Eskol, por el racimo que cortaron allí los israelitas.	24 That place was called the Valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the men of Israel cut down from there.
25 Al cabo de cuarenta días volvieron de explorar la tierra.	25 At the end of forty days they returned from spying out the land.
26 Fueron y se presentaron a Moisés, a Aarón y a toda la comunidad de los israelitas, en el desierto de Parán, en Cadés. Les hicieron una relación a ellos y a toda la comunidad, y les mostraron los productos del país.	26 And they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the people of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.
27 Les contaron lo siguiente: «Fuimos al país al que nos enviaste, y en verdad que mana leche y miel; éstos son sus productos.	27 And they told him, "We came to the land to which you sent us; it flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.
28 Sólo que el pueblo que habita en el país es poderoso; las ciudades, fortificadas y muy grandes; hasta hemos visto allí descendientes de Anaq.	28 Yet the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large; and besides, we saw the descendants of Anak there.
29 El amalecita ocupa la región del Négueb; el hitita, el amorreo y el jebuseo ocupan la montaña; el cananeo, la orilla del mar y la ribera del Jordán.»	29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the Negeb; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the hill country; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and along the Jordan."
30 Caleb acalló al pueblo delante de Moisés, diciendo: «Subamos, y conquistaremos el país, porque sin duda podremos con él.»	30 But Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, "Let us go up at once, and occupy it; for we are well able to overcome it."
31 Pero los hombres que habían ido con él dijeron: «No podemos subir contra ese pueblo, porque es más fuerte que nosotros.»	31 Then the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we."
32 Y empezaron a hablar mal a los israelitas del país que habían explorado, diciendo: «El país que hemos recorrido y explorado es un país que devora a sus propios habitantes. Toda la gente que hemos visto allí es gente alta.	32 So they brought to the people of Israel an evil report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land, through which we have gone, to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature.
33 Hemos visto también gigantes, hijos de Anaq, de la raza de los gigantes. Nosotros nos teníamos ante ellos como saltamontes, y eso mismo les parecíamos a ellos.»	33 And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim); and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them."
