1 Yahveh habló a Moisés y le dijo:	1 And the people set out from Hazeroth, and they pitched their tents in the desert of Paran.
2 «Envía algunos hombres, uno por cada tribu paterna, para que exploren la tierra de Canaán que voy a dar a los israelitas. Que sean todos principales entre ellos.»	2 And there, the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
3 Los envió Moisés, según la orden de Yahveh, desde el desierto de Parán: todos ellos eran jefes de los israelitas.	3 “Send men, who may examine the land of Canaan, which I will give to the sons of Israel, one from the rulers of each tribe.”
4 Sus nombres eran éstos: por la tribu de Rubén, Sammúa, hijo de Zakkur;	4 Moses did what the Lord had commanded, sending, from the desert of Paran, leading men, whose names are these:
5 por la tribu de Simeón, Safat, hijo de Jorí;	5 from the tribe of Ruben, Shammua the son of Zaccur;
6 por la tribu de Judá, Caleb, hijo de Yefunné;	6 from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;
7 por la tribu de Isacar, Yigal, hijo de José;	7 from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;
8 por la tribu de Efraím, Hosea, hijo de Nun;	8 from the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph;
9 por la tribu de Benjamín, Paltí, hijo de Rafú;	9 from the tribe of Ephraim, Hosea the son of Nun;
10 por la tribu de Zabulón, Gaddiel, hijo de Sodí;	10 from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;

12 por la tribu de Dan, Ammiel, hijo de Guemalí;	12 from the tribe of Joseph, of the scepter of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi;
13 por la tribu de Aser, Setur, hijo de Miguel;	13 from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli;
14 por la tribu de Neftalí, Najbí, hijo de Vafsí;	14 from the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;

16 Esos son los nombres de los que envió Moisés a explorar el país. Pero a Hosea, hijo de Nun, Moisés le llamo Josué.	16 from the tribe of Gad, Guel the son of Machi.
17 Moisés los envió a explorar el país de Canaán, y les dijo: «Subid ahí al Négueb y después subiréis a la montaña.	17 These are the names of the men, whom Moses sent to examine the land. And he called Hosea, the son of Nun, Joshua.
18 Reconoced el país, a ver qué tal es, y el pueblo que lo habita, si es fuerte o débil, escaso o numeroso;	18 And so, Moses sent them to examine the land of Canaan, and he said to them: “Ascend by the south side. And when you arrive at the mountains,
19 y qué tal es el país en que viven, bueno o malo; cómo son las ciudades en que habitan, abiertas o fortificadas;	19 consider the land, as to what kind it may be, and the people, who are its inhabitants, whether they may be strong or weak, whether they may be few in number or many,
20 y cómo es la tierra, fértil o pobre, si tiene árboles o no. Tened valor y traed algunos productos del país.» Era el tiempo de las primeras uvas.	20 and the land itself, whether it is good or bad, what kind of cities, walled or without walls,
21 Subieron y exploraron el país, desde el desierto de Sin hasta Rejob, a la Entrada de Jamat.	21 the soil, rich or barren, forested or without trees. Be strong, and bring us some of the fruits of the land.” Now it was the time when the first ripe grapes were ready to be eaten.
22 Subieron por el Négueb y llegaron hasta Hebrón, donde residían Ajimán, Sesay y Talmay, los descendientes de Anaq. Hebrón había sido fundada siete años antes que Tanis de Egipto.	22 And when they had ascended, they explored the land from the desert of Sin, all the way to Rehob, as one enters into Hamath.
23 Llegaron al Valle de Eskol y cortaron allí un sarmiento con un racimo de uva, que transportaron con una pértiga entre dos, y también granadas e higos.	23 And they ascended by the south side. And they arrived at Hebron, where there were Ahiman and Shishai and Talmai, the sons of Anak. For Hebron was founded seven years before Tanis, the city of Egypt.
24 Al lugar aquél se le llamó Valle de Eskol, por el racimo que cortaron allí los israelitas.	24 And continuing on as far as the Torrent of the Cluster of Grapes, they cut off a vine with its grapes, which two men carried on a board. Likewise, they took from the pomegranates and the figs of that place,
25 Al cabo de cuarenta días volvieron de explorar la tierra.	25 which was called Nehel Eshcol, that is, the Torrent of the Cluster of Grapes, because the sons of Israel had carried a cluster of grapes from there.
26 Fueron y se presentaron a Moisés, a Aarón y a toda la comunidad de los israelitas, en el desierto de Parán, en Cadés. Les hicieron una relación a ellos y a toda la comunidad, y les mostraron los productos del país.	26 And those exploring the land returned after forty days, having circulated through the entire region.
27 Les contaron lo siguiente: «Fuimos al país al que nos enviaste, y en verdad que mana leche y miel; éstos son sus productos.	27 And they went to Moses and Aaron, and to the entire assembly of the sons of Israel in the desert of Paran, which is in Kadesh. And speaking to them, and to the entire multitude, they showed them the fruits of the land.
28 Sólo que el pueblo que habita en el país es poderoso; las ciudades, fortificadas y muy grandes; hasta hemos visto allí descendientes de Anaq.	28 And they explained, saying: “We went into the land, to which you sent us, which, it is true, flows with milk and honey, as one can know by these fruits.
29 El amalecita ocupa la región del Négueb; el hitita, el amorreo y el jebuseo ocupan la montaña; el cananeo, la orilla del mar y la ribera del Jordán.»	29 But it has very strong occupants, and the cities are great and also walled. We saw the race of Anak there.
30 Caleb acalló al pueblo delante de Moisés, diciendo: «Subamos, y conquistaremos el país, porque sin duda podremos con él.»	30 Amalek lives in the south. The Hethite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite live in the mountains. And truly, the Canaanite stays near the sea and around the streams of the Jordan.”
31 Pero los hombres que habían ido con él dijeron: «No podemos subir contra ese pueblo, porque es más fuerte que nosotros.»	31 During these events, Caleb, to restrain the murmuring of the people who rose up against Moses, said, “Let us ascend and possess the land, for we will be able to obtain it.”
32 Y empezaron a hablar mal a los israelitas del país que habían explorado, diciendo: «El país que hemos recorrido y explorado es un país que devora a sus propios habitantes. Toda la gente que hemos visto allí es gente alta.	32 Yet truly, the others, who had been with him, were saying, “By no means are we able to ascend to this people, because they are stronger than we are.”
33 Hemos visto también gigantes, hijos de Anaq, de la raza de los gigantes. The people, upon whom we gazed, were of lofty stature.
	34 There, we saw some monsters among the sons of Anak, of the race of giants; by comparison with them, we seemed like locusts.”
