1 Todo el mundo era de un mismo lenguaje e idénticas palabras.	1 Now the earth was of one language and of the same speech.
2 Al desplazarse la humanidad desde oriente, hallaron una vega en el país de Senaar y allí se establecieron.	2 And when they were advancing from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt in it.
3 Entonces se dijeron el uno al otro: «Ea, vamos a fabricar ladrillos y a cocerlos al fuego.» Así el ladrillo les servía de piedra y el betún de argamasa.	3 And each one said to his neighbor, “Come, let us make bricks, and bake them with fire.” And they had bricks instead of stones, and pitch instead of mortar.
4 Después dijeron: «Ea, vamos a edificarnos una ciudad y una torre con la cúspide en los cielos, y hagámonos famosos, por si nos desperdigamos por toda la haz de la tierra.»	4 And they said: “Come, let us make a city and a tower, so that its height may reach to heaven. And let us make our name famous before we are divided into all the lands.”
5 Bajó Yahveh a ver la ciudad y la torre que habían edificado los humanos,	5 Then the Lord descended to see the city and the tower, which the sons of Adam were building.
6 y dijo Yahveh: «He aquí que todos son un solo pueblo con un mismo lenguaje, y este es el comienzo de su obra. Ahora nada de cuanto se propongan les será imposible.	6 And he said: “Behold, the people are united, and all have one tongue. And since they have begun to do this, they will not desist from their plans, until they have completed their work.
7 Ea, pues, bajemos, y una vez allí confundamos su lenguaje, de modo que no entienda cada cual el de su prójimo.»	7 Therefore, come, let us descend, and in that place confound their tongue, so that they may not listen, each one to the voice of his neighbor.”
8 Y desde aquel punto los desperdigó Yahveh por toda la haz de la tierra, y dejaron de edificar la ciudad.	8 And so the Lord divided them from that place into all the lands, and they ceased to build the city.
9 Por eso se la llamó Babel; porque allí embrolló Yahveh el lenguaje de todo el mundo, y desde allí los desperdigó Yahveh por toda la haz de la tierra.	9 And for this reason, its name was called ‘Babel,’ because in that place the language of the whole earth became confused. And from then on, the Lord scattered them across the face of every region.
10 Estos son los descendientes de Sem: Sem tenía cien años cuando engendró a Arpaksad, dos años después del diluvio.	10 These are the generations of Shem. Shem was one hundred years old when he conceived Arphaxad, two years after the great flood.
11 Vivió Sem, después de engendrar a Arpaksad, quinientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas.	11 And after he conceived Arphaxad, Shem lived for five hundred years, and he conceived sons and daughters.
12 Arpaksad era de 35 años de edad cuando engendró a Sélaj.	12 Next, Arphaxad lived for thirty-five years, and then he conceived Shelah.
13 Y vivió Arpaksad, después de engendrar a Sélaj, 403 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.	13 And after he conceived Shelah, Arphaxad lived for three hundred and three years, and he conceived sons and daughters.
14 Era Sélaj de treinta años cuando engendró a Héber.	14 Likewise, Shelah lived for thirty years, and then he conceived Eber.
15 Y vivió Sélaj, después de engendrar a Héber, 403 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.	15 And after he conceived Eber, Shelah lived for four hundred and three years, and he conceived sons and daughters.
16 Era Héber de 34 años cuando engendró a Péleg.	16 Then Eber lived for thirty-four years, and he conceived Peleg.
17 Y vivió Héber después de engendrar a Péleg 430 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.	17 And after he conceived Peleg, Eber lived for four hundred and thirty years, and he conceived sons and daughters.
18 Era Péleg de treinta años cuando engendró a Reú.	18 Likewise, Peleg lived for thirty years, and then he conceived Reu.
19 Y vivió Péleg, después de engendrar a Reú, 209 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.	19 And after he conceived Reu, Peleg lived for two hundred and nine years, and he conceived sons and daughters.
20 Era Reú de 32 años cuando engendró a Serug.	20 Then Reu lived for thirty-two years, and then he conceived Serug.
21 Y vivió Reú después de engendrar a Serug, 207 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.	21 Likewise, after he conceived Serug, Reu lived for two hundred and seven years, and he conceived sons and daughters.
22 Era Serug de treinta años cuando engendró a Najor.	22 In truth, Serug lived for thirty years, and then he conceived Nahor.
23 Y vivió Serug, después de engendrar a Najor, doscientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas.	23 And after he conceived Nahor, Serug lived for two hundred years, and he conceived sons and daughters.
24 Era Najor de veintinueve años cuando engendró a Téraj.	24 And so Nahor lived for twenty-nine years, and then he conceived Terah.
25 Y vivió Najor, después de engendrar a Téraj, 119 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.	25 And after he conceived Terah, Nahor lived for one hundred and nineteen years, and he conceived sons and daughters.
26 Era Téraj de setenta años cuando engendró a Abram, a Najor y a Harán.	26 And Terah lived for seventy years, and then he conceived Abram, and Nahor, and Haran.
27 Estos, son los descendientes de Téraj: Téraj engendró a Abram, a Najor y a Harán. Harán engendró a Lot.	27 And these are the generations of Terah. Terah conceived Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Next Haran conceived Lot.
28 Harán murió en vida de su padre Téraj, en su país natal, Ur de los caldeos.	28 And Haran died before his father Terah, in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldeans.
29 Abram y Najor se casaron. La mujer de Abram se llamaba Saray, y la mujer de Najor, Milká, hija de Harán, el padre de Milká y de Jiská.	29 Then Abram and Nahor took wives. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai. And the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
30 Saray era estéril, sin hijos.	30 But Sarai was barren and had no children.
31 Téraj tomó a su hijo Abram, a su nieto Lot, el hijo de Harán, y a su nuera Saray, la mujer de su hijo Abram, y salieron juntos de Ur de los caldeos, para dirigirse a Canaán. Llegados a Jarán, se establecieron allí.	31 And so Terah took his son Abram, and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and he led them away from Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan. And they approached as far as Haran, and they dwelt there.
32 Fueron los días de Téraj 205 años, y murió en Jarán.	32 And the days of Terah that passed were two hundred and five years, and then he died in Haran.
