Hebrews 5

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 Every high priest is taken from among human beings and is appointed to act on their behalf inrelationships with God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins;	1 Omnis namque pontifex ex hominibus assumptus pro homi nibus constituitur in his, quae sunt ad Deum, ut offerat dona et sacrificia pro peccatis;
2 he can sympathise with those who are ignorant or who have gone astray, because he too is subject tothe limitations of weakness.	2 qui aeque condolere possit his, qui ignorant et errant, quoniam et ipse circumdatus est infirmitate
3 That is why he has to make sin offerings for himself as wel as for the people.	3 et propter eam debet, quemadmodum et pro populo, ita etiam pro semetipso offerre pro peccatis.
4 No one takes this honour on himself; it needs a cal from God, as in Aaron's case.	4 Nec quisquam sumit sibi illum honorem, sed qui vocatur a Deo tamquam et Aaron.
5 And so it was not Christ who gave himself the glory of becoming high priest, but the one who said tohim: You are my Son, today I have fathered you,	5 Sic et Christus non semetipsum glorificavit, ut pontifex fieret, sed qui locutus est ad eum: “ Filius meus es tu; ego hodie genui te ”;
6 and in another text: You are a priest for ever, of the order of Melchizedek.	6 quemadmodum et in alio dicit: “ Tu es sacerdos in aeternum secundum ordinem Melchisedech ”.
7 During his life on earth, he offered up prayer and entreaty, with loud cries and with tears, to the onewho had the power to save him from death, and, winning a hearing by his reverence,	7 Qui in diebus carnis suae, preces supplicationesque ad eum, qui possit salvum illum a morte facere, cum clamore valido et lacrimis offerens et exauditus pro sua reverentia,
8 he learnt obedience, Son though he was, through his sufferings;	8 et quidem cum esset Filius, didicit ex his, quae passus est, oboedientiam;
9 when he had been perfected, he became for al who obey him the source of eternal salvation	9 et, consummatus, factus est omnibus oboedientibus sibi auctor salutis aeternae,
10 and was acclaimed by God with the title of high priest of the order of Melchizedek.	10 appellatus a Deo pontifex iuxta ordinem Melchisedech.
11 On this subject we have many things to say, and they are difficult to explain because you have grownso slow at understanding.	11 De quo grandis nobis sermo et ininterpretabilis ad dicendum, quoniam segnes facti estis ad audiendum.
12 Indeed, when you should by this time have become masters, you need someone to teach you al overagain the elements of the principles of God's sayings; you have gone back to needing milk, and not solid food.	12 Etenim cum deberetis magistri esse propter tempus, rursum indigetis, ut vos doceat aliquis elementa exordii sermonum Dei, et facti estis, quibus lacte opus sit, non solido cibo.
13 Truly, no one who is stil living on milk can digest the doctrine of saving justice, being stil a baby.	13 Omnis enim, qui lactis est particeps, expers est sermonis iustitiae, parvulus enim est;
14 Solid food is for adults with minds trained by practice to distinguish between good and bad.	14 perfectorum autem est solidus cibus, eorum, qui pro consuetudine exercitatos habent sensus ad discretionem boni ac mali.
