NEW JERUSALEMSMITH VAN DYKE
Every high priest is taken from among human beings and is appointed to act on their behalf inrelationships with God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins;1 لان كل رئيس كهنة مأخوذ من الناس يقام لاجل الناس في ما للّه لكي يقدم قرابين وذبائح عن الخطايا
he can sympathise with those who are ignorant or who have gone astray, because he too is subject tothe limitations of weakness.2 قادرا ان يترفق بالجهال والضالين اذ هو ايضا محاط بالضعف.
That is why he has to make sin offerings for himself as wel as for the people.3 ولهذا الضعف يلتزم انه كما يقدم عن الخطايا لاجل الشعب هكذا ايضا لاجل نفسه.
No one takes this honour on himself; it needs a cal from God, as in Aaron's case.4 ولا يأخذ احد هذه الوظيفة بنفسه بل المدعو من الله كما هرون ايضا.
And so it was not Christ who gave himself the glory of becoming high priest, but the one who said tohim: You are my Son, today I have fathered you,5 كذلك المسيح ايضا لم يمجد نفسه ليصير رئيس كهنة بل الذي قال له انت ابني انا اليوم ولدتك.
and in another text: You are a priest for ever, of the order of Melchizedek.6 كما يقول ايضا في موضع آخر انت كاهن الى الابد على رتبة ملكي صادق.
During his life on earth, he offered up prayer and entreaty, with loud cries and with tears, to the onewho had the power to save him from death, and, winning a hearing by his reverence,7 الذي في ايام جسده اذ قدم بصراخ شديد ودموع طلبات وتضرعات للقادر ان يخلصه من الموت وسمع له من اجل تقواه
he learnt obedience, Son though he was, through his sufferings;8 مع كونه ابنا تعلّم الطاعة مما تألم به
when he had been perfected, he became for al who obey him the source of eternal salvation9 واذ كمّل صار لجميع الذين يطيعونه سبب خلاص ابدي
and was acclaimed by God with the title of high priest of the order of Melchizedek.10 مدعوّا من الله رئيس كهنة على رتبة ملكي صادق
On this subject we have many things to say, and they are difficult to explain because you have grownso slow at understanding.11 الذي من جهته الكلام كثير عندنا وعسر التفسير لننطق به اذ قد صرتم متباطئي المسامع.
Indeed, when you should by this time have become masters, you need someone to teach you al overagain the elements of the principles of God's sayings; you have gone back to needing milk, and not solid food.12 لانكم اذ كان ينبغي ان تكونوا معلّمين لسبب طول الزمان تحتاجون ان يعلمكم احد ما هي اركان بداءة اقوال الله وصرتم محتاجين الى اللبن لا الى طعام قوي.
Truly, no one who is stil living on milk can digest the doctrine of saving justice, being stil a baby.13 لان كل من يتناول اللبن هو عديم الخبرة في كلام البر لانه طفل.
Solid food is for adults with minds trained by practice to distinguish between good and bad.14 واما الطعام القوي فللبالغين الذين بسبب التمرن قد صارت لهم الحواس مدربة على التمييز بين الخير والشر
