NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Every high priest is taken from among human beings and is appointed to act on their behalf inrelationships with God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins;	1 Em verdade, todo pontífice é escolhido entre os homens e constituído a favor dos homens como mediador nas coisas que dizem respeito a Deus, para oferecer dons e sacrifícios pelos pecados.
2 he can sympathise with those who are ignorant or who have gone astray, because he too is subject tothe limitations of weakness.	2 Sabe compadecer-se dos que estão na ignorância e no erro, porque também ele está cercado de fraqueza.
3 That is why he has to make sin offerings for himself as wel as for the people.	3 Por isso, ele deve oferecer sacrifícios tanto pelos próprios pecados quanto pelos pecados do povo.
4 No one takes this honour on himself; it needs a cal from God, as in Aaron's case.	4 Ninguém se apropria desta honra, senão somente aquele que é chamado por Deus, como Aarão.
5 And so it was not Christ who gave himself the glory of becoming high priest, but the one who said tohim: You are my Son, today I have fathered you,	5 Assim também Cristo não se atribuiu a si mesmo a glória de ser pontífice. Esta lhe foi dada por aquele que lhe disse: Tu és meu Filho, eu hoje te gerei {Sl 2,7},
6 and in another text: You are a priest for ever, of the order of Melchizedek.	6 como também diz em outra passagem: Tu és sacerdote eternamente, segundo a ordem de Melquisedec {Sl 109,4}.
7 During his life on earth, he offered up prayer and entreaty, with loud cries and with tears, to the onewho had the power to save him from death, and, winning a hearing by his reverence,	7 Nos dias de sua vida mortal, dirigiu preces e súplicas, entre clamores e lágrimas, àquele que o podia salvar da morte, e foi atendido pela sua piedade.
8 he learnt obedience, Son though he was, through his sufferings;	8 Embora fosse Filho de Deus, aprendeu a obediência por meio dos sofrimentos que teve.
9 when he had been perfected, he became for al who obey him the source of eternal salvation	9 E uma vez chegado ao seu termo, tornou-se autor da salvação eterna para todos os que lhe obedecem,
10 and was acclaimed by God with the title of high priest of the order of Melchizedek.	10 porque Deus o proclamou sacerdote segundo a ordem de Melquisedec.
11 On this subject we have many things to say, and they are difficult to explain because you have grownso slow at understanding.	11 Teríamos muita coisa a dizer sobre isso, e coisas bem difíceis de explicar, dada a vossa lentidão em compreender...
12 Indeed, when you should by this time have become masters, you need someone to teach you al overagain the elements of the principles of God's sayings; you have gone back to needing milk, and not solid food.	12 A julgar pelo tempo, já devíeis ser mestres! Contudo, ainda necessitais que vos ensinem os primeiros rudimentos da palavra de Deus; e vos tornastes tais, que precisais de leite em vez de alimento sólido!
13 Truly, no one who is stil living on milk can digest the doctrine of saving justice, being stil a baby.	13 Ora, quem se alimenta de leite não é capaz de compreender uma doutrina profunda, porque é ainda criança.
14 Solid food is for adults with minds trained by practice to distinguish between good and bad.	14 Mas o alimento sólido é para os adultos, para aqueles que a experiência já exercitou na distinção do bem e do mal.
