1 Now Joshua had grown old and advanced in years. Yahweh said to him, 'You are now old andadvanced in years, yet there is stil a great deal of territory left to be taken possession of.1 Josué étant vieux et fort avancé en âge, le Seigneur lui dit : Tu es (devenu) vieux et tu es avancé en âge, et il reste une région considérable qui n'a point encore été divisée par le sort :
2 This is al the territory left: 'Al the districts of the Philistines and the whole country of the Geshurites;2 savoir, toute la Galilée (, la terre) des Philistins, et toute la terre de Gessuri,
3 from the Shihor, facing Egypt, to the frontier of Ekron in the north, is reckoned as Canaanite territory.The five rulers of the Philistines have their seats at Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath and Ekron, respectively; theAvvites are in3 depuis le fleuve aux eaux troubles qui arrose l'Egypte, jusqu'aux confins d'Accaron vers le nord; la terre de Chanaan, qui est partagée entre les cinq princes des Philistins, savoir: celui de Gaza, celui d'Azot, celui d'Ascalon, celui de Geth, et celui d'Accaron.
4 the south. The entire territory of the Canaanites, and Mearah which belongs to the Sidonians, as far asAphekah and as far as the frontier of the Amorites;4 Au midi sont les Hévéens, toute la terre de Chanaan, Maara des Sidoniens, jusqu'à Aphec et jusqu'aux frontières des Amorrhéens,
5 and then the country of the Gebalites with the entire Lebanon eastwards from Baal-Gad at the foot ofMount Hermon to the Pass of Hamath.5 jusqu'aux terres qui les avoisinent ; le pays du Liban vers l'orient, depuis Baalgad au pied du mont Hermon, jusqu'à l'entrée d'Emath ;
6 'All who live in the highlands from the Lebanon to Misrephoth in the west -- al the Sidonians -- I myselfshall dispossess before the Israelites. Al you have to do is to distribute the territory as a heritage for theIsraelites as I have ordered you.6 tous ceux qui habitent sur la montagne, depuis le Liban jusqu'aux eaux de Maséréphoth, et tous les Sidoniens. C'est moi qui les exterminerai devant la face des enfants d'Israël. Que ces pays tombent donc dans la portion de l'héritage d'Israël, comme je te l'ai ordonné.
7 The time has come to divide this territory as a heritage between the nine tribes and the half-tribe ofManasseh: from the Jordan as far as the Great Sea in the west, you must give it them; the Great Sea wil betheir limit.'7 Et maintenant partagez la terre que les neuf tribus et la moitié de la tribu de Manassé doivent posséder;
8 As regards the other half-tribe of Manasseh, this and the Reubenites and Gadites had already receivedtheir heritage, given them by Moses on the further, eastern side of the Jordan, the one which Moses, servant ofYahweh, had already given them:8 l'autre moitié de cette tribu étant déjà en possession, avec les tribus de Ruben et de Gad, de la terre que Moïse, serviteur du Seigneur, leur a donnée au delà du Jourdain du côté de l'orient,
9 The country onwards from Aroer on the edge of the Arnon Val ey, with the town in the bottom of theval ey and the entire tableland from Medeba to Dibon;9 depuis Aroër, qui est sur le bord du torrent de l'Arnon, et au milieu de la vallée, et toute la campagne de Médaba, jusqu'à Dibon;
10 al the towns of Sihon king of the Amorites, who had reigned in Heshbon, to the frontier of theAmmonites;10 et toutes les villes de Séhon, roi des Amorrhéens, qui régnait depuis Hésébon jusqu'aux frontières des enfants d'Ammon;
11 then Gilead and the territory of the Geshurites and Maacathites with the whole Hermon range and thewhole of Bashan as far as Salecah;11 Galaad, les confins de Gessuri et de Machati, tout le mont Hermon et tout Basan jusqu'à Salécha;
12 and in Bashan, the whole kingdom of Og, who had reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei, and was the lastof the survivors of the Rephaim. Moses had conquered and dispossessed these two kings.12 tout le royaume d'Og au pays de Basan, qui régnait à Astaroth et à Edraï, et qui était des restes des Géants. Moïse défit ces peuples et les détruisit.
13 The Israelites did not, however, dispossess either the Geshurites or the Maacathites, hence Geshurand Maacah survive inside Israel even today.13 Et les enfants d'Israël ne voulurent point exterminer ceux de Gessuri et de Machati ; et ils sont demeurés au milieu d'Israël jusqu'à ce jour.
14 To the tribe of Levi alone no heritage was given; Yahweh, God of Israel, was his heritage, as he hadtold him.14 Mais Moïse ne donna point de terre en partage à la tribu de Lévi, parce que les sacrifices et les victimes du Seigneur Dieu d'Israël sont son héritage, comme le Seigneur le lui a dit.
15 Moses had given the tribe of the sons of Reuben a share by clans.15 Moïse donna donc la contrée en possession à la tribu des enfants de Ruben, selon ses familles;
16 Thus, their territory was the entire tableland from Aroer on the edge of the Arnon Val ey, with the townin the bottom of the val ey, as far as Medeba,16 et leur territoire fut depuis Aroër, qui est sur le bord du torrent de l'Arnon, et au milieu de la vallée où est ce même torrent, toute la plaine qui conduit à Médaba,
17 Heshbon with all the towns on the tableland: Dibon, Bamoth-Baal, Beth-Baal-Meon,17 Hésébon avec tous ses villages qui sont dans la plaine, Dibon, Bamothbaal, la ville de Baalmaon,
18 Jahaz, Kedemoth, Mephaath,18 Jassa, Cédimoth, Méphaath,
19 Kiriathaim, Sibmah and, in the highlands of the Arabah, Zereth-Shahar;19 Cariathaïm, Sabama, et Sarathasar dans la montagne de la vallée,
20 Beth-Peor, the watered foothills of Mount Pisgah, Beth-ha-Jeshimoth,20 Bethphogor, Asédoth, Phasga, Bethjésimoth,
21 al the towns on the tableland and the entire kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who had reignedin Heshbon; he had been defeated by Moses, and with him the princes of Midian, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur andReba, vassals of Sihon, formerly living in the country.21 (et) toutes les villes de la plaine, tous les royaumes de Séhon, roi des Amorrhéens, qui régna à Hésébon ; Moïse le défit avec les princes de Madian, Evi, Résem, Sur, Hur, Rébé, qui étaient les chefs de Séhon et qui habitaient dans le pays.
22 As regards Balaam son of Beor, the soothsayer, the Israelites had put him to the sword with thosewhom they had kil ed.22 (Et) Les enfants d'Israël firent aussi mourir par l'épée le devin Balaam, fils de Béor, avec les autres qui furent tués.
23 The boundary of the Reubenites was the Jordan and its territory. Such was the heritage of the sons ofReuben, by clans, with the towns and vil ages belonging to them.23 Et le pays des enfants de Ruben se termina au fleuve du Jourdain. C'est là la terre, les villes et les villages que posséda la tribu de Ruben, selon ses familles.
24 Moses had given the tribe of Gad, the sons of Gad, a share by clans.24 Moïse donna aussi à la tribu de Gad et à ses enfants la terre qu'elle devait posséder selon ses familles ; en voici la division :
25 Their territory was Jazer, al the towns of Gilead, half the country of the Ammonites as far as Aroerfacing Rabbah,25 Elle possédait Jaser, toutes les villes de Galaad, la moitié de la terre des enfants d'Ammon jusqu'à Aroër, qui est vers Rabba ;
26 and from Heshbon to Ramath-Mizpeh and Betonim; from Mahanaim as far as the territory of Lo-Debar,26 depuis Hésébon jusqu'à Ramoth, Masphé et Betonim, et depuis Manaïm jusqu'aux confins de Dabir.
27 and in the val ey: Beth-Haram, Beth-Nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon -- the rest of the kingdom of Sihonking of Heshbon -- the Jordan and the territory running to the tip of the Sea of Chinneroth, on the further, easternside of the Jordan.27 Elle possédait aussi dans la vallée Bétharan, Bethnemra, Socoth et Saphon, et le reste du royaume de Séhon, roi d'Hésébon; son pays se terminait aussi au Jourdain jusqu'à l'extrémité de la mer de Cénéreth au delà du Jourdain vers l'orient.
28 Such was the heritage of the sons of Gad, by clans, with their towns and vil ages belonging to them.28 C'est là la terre, les villes et les villages que possèdent les enfants de Gad selon leurs familles.
29 Moses had given the half-tribe of Manasseh a share by clans.29 Moïse donna aussi à la moitié de la tribu de Manassé et à ses enfants la terre qu'elle devait posséder selon ses familles.
30 Their territory, starting from Mahanaim, was the whole of Bashan, the entire kingdom of Og king ofBashan, all the Encampments of Jair in Bashan: sixty towns.30 Elle comprenait depuis Manaïm tout Basan, tous les royaumes d'Og, roi de Basan, tous les bourgs de Jaïr qui sont en Basan, au nombre de soixante villes;
31 Half of Gilead, with Ashtaroth, and Edrei, the royal cities of Og in Bashan, were al otted to the sons ofMachir son of Manasseh, to half of the sons of Machir, by clans.31 la moitié de Galaad, Astaroth et Edraï, villes du royaume d'Og en Basan ; tout cela fut donné aux enfants de Machir, fils de Manassé, c'est-à-dire à la moitié des enfants de Machir, selon leurs familles (parentés).
32 This was what Moses had conferred in heritage on the Plains of Moab on the further, eastern side ofthe Jordan opposite Jericho.32 Moïse fit ce partage dans la plaine de Moab au-delà du Jourdain, vis-à-vis de Jéricho vers l'orient.
33 To the tribe of Levi, however, Moses gave no heritage; Yahweh, God of Israel, was his heritage, ashe had told him.33 Mais il ne donna point de terre en partage à la tribu de Lévi, parce que le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël est son partage, selon qu'il le lui a dit.
