NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Now Joshua had grown old and advanced in years. Yahweh said to him, 'You are now old andadvanced in years, yet there is stil a great deal of territory left to be taken possession of.	1 Intanto Giosuè si era fatto vecchio e avanzato negli anni. Perciò gli disse il Signore: "Tu sei diventato vecchio e avanzato negli anni, e il paese ti è rimasto ancora in gran parte da conquistare.
2 This is al the territory left: 'Al the districts of the Philistines and the whole country of the Geshurites;	2 Questo è il paese che resta: tutti i distretti dei Filistei e tutto il paese dei Ghesuriti,
3 from the Shihor, facing Egypt, to the frontier of Ekron in the north, is reckoned as Canaanite territory.The five rulers of the Philistines have their seats at Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath and Ekron, respectively; theAvvites are in	3 dal Sicor, che sta sul confine con l'Egitto, fino al confine di Accaron a nord, regione attribuita ai Cananei; i cinque principati dei Filistei, cioè Gaza, Asdod, Ascalon, Gat, Accaron, con gli Evei
4 the south. The entire territory of the Canaanites, and Mearah which belongs to the Sidonians, as far asAphekah and as far as the frontier of the Amorites;	4 a sud; tutta la regione dei Cananei, poi da Ara, presso i Sidoni, fino ad Afek, presso la terra degli Amorrei,
5 and then the country of the Gebalites with the entire Lebanon eastwards from Baal-Gad at the foot ofMount Hermon to the Pass of Hamath.	5 la regione dei Gibliti e tutto il Libano ad oriente, da Baal-Gad alle pendici dell'Ermon, sino al valico di Camat;
6 'All who live in the highlands from the Lebanon to Misrephoth in the west -- al the Sidonians -- I myselfshall dispossess before the Israelites. Al you have to do is to distribute the territory as a heritage for theIsraelites as I have ordered you.	6 tutti quelli che abitano le montagne, dal Libano sino a Misrefot-Maim; tutti i Sidoni: io li farò fuggire dinanzi ai figli d'Israele. Intanto però tu distribuisci la regione a sorte fra gli Israeliti, in loro possesso ereditario, come io ti ho comandato".
7 The time has come to divide this territory as a heritage between the nine tribes and the half-tribe ofManasseh: from the Jordan as far as the Great Sea in the west, you must give it them; the Great Sea wil betheir limit.'	7 "Ora dunque ripartisci questa terra in possesso alle nove tribù e alla metà della tribù di Manasse.
8 As regards the other half-tribe of Manasseh, this and the Reubenites and Gadites had already receivedtheir heritage, given them by Moses on the further, eastern side of the Jordan, the one which Moses, servant ofYahweh, had already given them:	8 Con lui i Rubeniti e i Gaditi hanno già ricevuto la loro parte di possesso, quella che dette loro Mosè, al di là del Giordano ad oriente; la dette loro proprio Mosè, servo del Signore,
9 The country onwards from Aroer on the edge of the Arnon Val ey, with the town in the bottom of theval ey and the entire tableland from Medeba to Dibon;	9 da Aroer, situata sulla riva del torrente Arnon, la città che sta in mezzo alla valle, e tutto l'altipiano da Madaba sino a Dibon;
10 al the towns of Sihon king of the Amorites, who had reigned in Heshbon, to the frontier of theAmmonites;	10 tutte le città di Sicon, re degli Amorrei, che regnava in Chesbon, fino alla frontiera dei figli di Ammon;
11 then Gilead and the territory of the Geshurites and Maacathites with the whole Hermon range and thewhole of Bashan as far as Salecah;	11 il Gàlaad, con il territorio dei Ghesuriti e dei Maacatiti e tutta la montagna dell'Ermon e tutto il Basan fino a Salca;
12 and in Bashan, the whole kingdom of Og, who had reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei, and was the lastof the survivors of the Rephaim. Moses had conquered and dispossessed these two kings.	12 nel Basan tutto il regno di Og, che regnava in Astarot e in Edrei, ultimo rampollo dei Refaim, che Mosè aveva battuto e sterminato".
13 The Israelites did not, however, dispossess either the Geshurites or the Maacathites, hence Geshurand Maacah survive inside Israel even today.	13 Ma i figli d'Israele non scacciarono i Ghesuriti e i Maacatiti, perciò Ghesur e Maaca dimorano ancor oggi in mezzo a Israele.
14 To the tribe of Levi alone no heritage was given; Yahweh, God of Israel, was his heritage, as he hadtold him.	14 Soltanto alla tribù di Levi non fu data alcuna eredità: le vittime del Signore, Dio d'Israele, questo è il suo possesso, come le è stato detto.
15 Moses had given the tribe of the sons of Reuben a share by clans.	15 Mosè dunque aveva dato alla tribù dei figli di Ruben una porzione, secondo le loro famiglie;
16 Thus, their territory was the entire tableland from Aroer on the edge of the Arnon Val ey, with the townin the bottom of the val ey, as far as Medeba,	16 ebbero quindi il territorio dopo Aroer, al margine del torrente Arnon e della città che è in mezzo alla valle, e tutto l'altipiano presso Madaba;
17 Heshbon with all the towns on the tableland: Dibon, Bamoth-Baal, Beth-Baal-Meon,	17 Chesbon e tutte le sue città che sono sull'altipiano; Dibon, Bamot-Baal, Bet-Baal-Meon,
18 Jahaz, Kedemoth, Mephaath,	18 Iaaz, Kedemot, Mefaat,
19 Kiriathaim, Sibmah and, in the highlands of the Arabah, Zereth-Shahar;	19 Kiriataim, Sibmal, Zeret-Sacar sul pendio della vallata;
20 Beth-Peor, the watered foothills of Mount Pisgah, Beth-ha-Jeshimoth,	20 Bet-Peor, i pendii del Pisga, Bet-Iesimot;
21 al the towns on the tableland and the entire kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who had reignedin Heshbon; he had been defeated by Moses, and with him the princes of Midian, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur andReba, vassals of Sihon, formerly living in the country.	21 e tutte le città dell'altipiano e tutto il regno di Sicon, re degli Amorrei, che regnava in Chesbon, che fu battuto da Mosè, come i prìncipi di Madian: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Cur e Reba, vassalli di Sicon, che abitavano nella regione.
22 As regards Balaam son of Beor, the soothsayer, the Israelites had put him to the sword with thosewhom they had kil ed.	22 I figli d'Israele uccisero pure con la spada Balaam, figlio di Beor, l'indovino, sopra i cadaveri dei suoi.
23 The boundary of the Reubenites was the Jordan and its territory. Such was the heritage of the sons ofReuben, by clans, with the towns and vil ages belonging to them.	23 Il Giordano fu il confine dei Rubeniti. Questo il limite del possesso dei figli di Ruben, secondo le loro famiglie, con le città e i loro villaggi.
24 Moses had given the tribe of Gad, the sons of Gad, a share by clans.	24 Anche alla tribù dei figli di Gad Mosè dette una porzione secondo le loro famiglie.
25 Their territory was Jazer, al the towns of Gilead, half the country of the Ammonites as far as Aroerfacing Rabbah,	25 Ebbero in possesso Iazer e tutte le città del Gàlaad e metà della terra degli Ammoniti, fino ad Aroer, che sta di fronte a Rabba;
26 and from Heshbon to Ramath-Mizpeh and Betonim; from Mahanaim as far as the territory of Lo-Debar,	26 e da Chesbon sino a Ramat-Mizpe e Betonim, e da Macanaim fino al confine di Lodebar.
27 and in the val ey: Beth-Haram, Beth-Nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon -- the rest of the kingdom of Sihonking of Heshbon -- the Jordan and the territory running to the tip of the Sea of Chinneroth, on the further, easternside of the Jordan.	27 Infine nella vallata, Bet-Aram e Bet-Nimra, Succot e Zafon, il resto del regno di Sicon, re di Chesbon; il Giordano era il confine all'estremità del mare di Genezaret, sulla riva orientale del Giordano.
28 Such was the heritage of the sons of Gad, by clans, with their towns and vil ages belonging to them.	28 Questa è l'eredità dei figli di Gad, secondo le loro famiglie, con le città e i loro villaggi.
29 Moses had given the half-tribe of Manasseh a share by clans.	29 Mosè aveva dato una porzione anche alla mezza tribù di Manasse; questo fu il possesso della mezza tribù dei figli di Manasse secondo le loro famiglie:
30 Their territory, starting from Mahanaim, was the whole of Bashan, the entire kingdom of Og king ofBashan, all the Encampments of Jair in Bashan: sixty towns.	30 il loro confine andava da Macanaim, tutto il Basan, tutto il regno di Og, re di Basan, e tutti i villaggi di Iair, che sono nel Basan: sessanta città.
31 Half of Gilead, with Ashtaroth, and Edrei, the royal cities of Og in Bashan, were al otted to the sons ofMachir son of Manasseh, to half of the sons of Machir, by clans.	31 La metà del Gàlaad, Astarot e Edrei, città del regno di Og nel Basan, toccarono a Machir, figlio di Manasse, cioè alla metà dei figli di Machir, secondo le loro famiglie.
32 This was what Moses had conferred in heritage on the Plains of Moab on the further, eastern side ofthe Jordan opposite Jericho.	32 Questo è ciò che Mosè aveva dato come eredità mentre era nelle steppe di Moab, al di là del Giordano, ad oriente di Gerico.
33 To the tribe of Levi, however, Moses gave no heritage; Yahweh, God of Israel, was his heritage, ashe had told him.	33 Alla tribù di Levi Mosè non dette alcuna eredità; il Signore, Dio d'Israele, doveva essere loro possesso, come aveva detto loro.
