1 Thessalonians 5

1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you	1 In quanto al tempo e al momento, non avete bisogno, o fratelli, che ve ne scriviamo;
2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.	2 perchè voi stessi sapete benissimo che il giorno del Signore verrà come un ladro di notte;
3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape.	3 quando infatti diranno: « pace e sicurezza » allora li sorprenderà improvvisamente la rovina, come le doglie del parto sorprendono la donna incinta, e non avranno scampo.
4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief.	4 Ma voi, o fratelli, non siete nelle tenebre onde possa quel giorno sorprendervi come un ladro,
5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness,	5 voi tutti siete figli della luce, e figli del giorno. Noi non siamo della notte e dello tenebre,
6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.	6 quindi cerchiamo non di dormire come gli altri, ma di vegliare, di essere sobrii;
7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk,	7 perchè quei che dormono, dormono di notte, e quelli che s'inebriano, s'inebriano di notte.
8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet.	8 Ma noi, che siamo (figlioli) del giorno, dobbiamo essere sobrii e indossare la corazza della fede e della carità, e portare per elmo la speranza della salute;
9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,	9 perchè Dio non ci ha destinati all'ira, ma all'acquisto della salute pel Signore nostro Gesù Cristo,
10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him.	10 il quale è morto per noi, affinchè, sia che vegliamo, sia che dormiamo, viviamo insieme con lui.
11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already.	11 Perciò consolatevi a vicenda e siate di edificazione l'uno all'altro, come state facendo.
12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you.	12 Vi preghiamo, o fratelli, diaver riguardo a coloro che fati­cano tra di voi, vi governano nelSignore e vi istruiscono:
13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves.	13 abbiateli sommamente cari, a motivo delle loro fatiche, e vivete in pace con essi.
14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone.	14 V'esortiamo ancora, o fratelli, a correggere gl'inquieti, a consolare i pusillanimi, a sostenere i deboli, ad esser pazienti con tutti.
15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone.	15 Badate che nessuno renda ad un altro male per male; ma cercate sempre di far del bene tra di voi e verso di tutti.
16 Always be joyful;	16 Siate sempre allegri.
17 pray constantly;	17 Non cessate mai di pregare.
18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus.	18 In ogni cosa rendete grazie, perchè tale è la volontà di Dio in Cristo Gesù riguardo a tutti voi.
19 Do not stifle the Spirit	19 Non spegnete lo Spirito.
20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt;	20 Non disprezzate le profezie;
21 test everything and hold on to what is good	21 ma esaminate tutto e ritenete il bene.
22 and shun every form of evil.	22 Guardatevi da ogni apparenza di male.
23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.	23 Lo stesso Dio della pace vi santifichi completamente, in modo che tutto il vostro spirito e anima e il corpo si conservino irreprensibili per quando verrà il Signore nostro Gesù Cristo.
24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out.	24 Chi vi chiama è fedele e farà anche questo.
25 Pray for us, my brothers.	25 Fratelli, pregate per noi.
26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss.	26 Salutate tutti i fratelli col bacio santo.
27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers.	27 Vi scongiuro pel Signore che questa lettera sia letta a tutti i santi fratelli.
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.2Th 1:1 Paul, Silvanus and Timothy, to the Church in Thessalonica which is in God our Father and the LordJesus Christ	28 La grazia del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo sia con voi. Così sia.
