1 Thessalonians 5

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you	1 Circa il tempo e l'ora, o fratelli, non avete bisogno che ve ne scriviamo.
2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.	2 Voi stessi infatti sapete perfettamente che il giorno del Signore arriva come un ladro di notte.
3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape.	3 Quando diranno: Pace e sicurezza, allora improvvisamente precipiterà su di essi la rovina, come i dolori del parto sulla donna incinta; e non sfuggiranno.
4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief.	4 Ma voi, fratelli, non siete nelle tenebre, così che quel giorno vi sorprenda come un ladro;
5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness,	5 infatti voi siete tutti figli della luce e figli del giorno: non siamo né della notte né delle tenebre.
6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.	6 Pertanto non dormiamo come gli altri, ma vegliamo e siamo temperanti.
7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk,	7 Quelli che dormono, dormono di notte e quelli che si inebriano, si inebriano di notte.
8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet.	8 Noi, invece, che siamo del giorno, siamo sobri, rivestiti con la corazza della fede e della carità, avendo per elmo la speranza della salvezza.
9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,	9 Dio non ci ha destinati all'ira, ma all'acquisto della salute per mezzo del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo,
10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him.	10 il quale è morto per noi, affinché, sia che vegliamo sia che ci addormentiamo, con lui viviamo.
11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already.	11 Perciò consolatevi gli uni gli altri, edificandovi scambievolmente, come già fate.
12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you.	12 Vi preghiamo, fratelli, di apprezzare quelli che faticano in mezzo a voi e vi presiedono nel Signore e vi ammoniscono:
13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves.	13 stimateli sommamente nella carità, a causa della loro opera. Vivete in pace tra voi stessi.
14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone.	14 Vi esortiamo, fratelli, correggete gli indisciplinati, incoraggiate i pusillanimi, sostenete i deboli, usate pazienza con tutti.
15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone.	15 Guardate che nessuno renda a un altro male per male, piuttosto studiate sempre di fare il bene gli uni agli altri e a tutti.
16 Always be joyful;	16 Siate sempre lieti.
17 pray constantly;	17 Pregate senza interruzione.
18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus.	18 Rendete grazie in ogni cosa: questa è la volontà di Dio a vostro riguardo, in Gesù Cristo.
19 Do not stifle the Spirit	19 Non spegnete lo Spirito.
20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt;	20 Non disprezzate le profezie.
21 test everything and hold on to what is good	21 Esaminate ogni cosa: ritenete ciò che è buono.
22 and shun every form of evil.	22 Tenetevi lontano da ogni sorta di male.
23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.	23 Egli stesso, il Dio della pace, vi santifichi totalmente e tutto il vostro essere, spirito, anima e corpo, siano custoditi irreprensibili per la parusia del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo.
24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out.	24 Fedele è colui che vi chiama; egli porterà tutto a compimento.
25 Pray for us, my brothers.	25 Fratelli, pregate anche per noi.
26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss.	26 Salutate tutti i fratelli con un bacio santo.
27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers.	27 Vi scongiuro nel Signore che questa lettera sia letta a tutti i fratelli.
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.2Th 1:1 Paul, Silvanus and Timothy, to the Church in Thessalonica which is in God our Father and the LordJesus Christ	28 La grazia del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo sia con voi.
