1 Thessalonians 5

1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you	1 A respeito da época e do momento, não há necessidade, irmãos, de que vos escrevamos.
2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.	2 Pois vós mesmos sabeis muito bem que o dia do Senhor virá como um ladrão de noite.
3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape.	3 Quando os homens disserem: Paz e segurança!, então repentinamente lhes sobrevirá a destruição, como as dores à mulher grávida. E não escaparão.
4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief.	4 Mas vós, irmãos, não estais em trevas, de modo que esse dia vos surpreenda como um ladrão.
5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness,	5 Porque todos vós sois filhos da luz e filhos do dia. Não somos da noite nem das trevas.
6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.	6 Não durmamos, pois, como os demais. Mas vigiemos e sejamos sóbrios.
7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk,	7 Porque os que dormem, dormem de noite; e os que se embriagam, embriagam-se de noite.
8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet.	8 Nós, ao contrário, que somos do dia, sejamos sóbrios. Tomemos por couraça a fé e a caridade, e por capacete a esperança da salvação.
9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,	9 Porquanto não nos destinou Deus para a ira, mas para alcançar a salvação por nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.
10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him.	10 Ele morreu por nós, a fim de que nós, quer em estado de vigília, quer de sono, vivamos em união com ele.
11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already.	11 Assim, pois, consolai-vos mutuamente e edificai-vos uns aos outros, como já o fazeis.
12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you.	12 Suplicamo-vos, irmãos, que reconheçais aqueles que arduamente trabalham entre vós para dirigir-vos no Senhor e vos admoestar.
13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves.	13 Tende para com eles singular amor, em vista do cargo que exercem. Conservai a paz entre vós.
14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone.	14 Pedimo-vos, porém, irmãos, corrigi os desordeiros, encorajai os tímidos, amparai os fracos e tende paciência para com todos.
15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone.	15 Vede que ninguém pague a outro mal por mal. Antes, procurai sempre praticar o bem entre vós e para com todos.
16 Always be joyful;	16 Vivei sempre contentes.
17 pray constantly;	17 Orai sem cessar.
18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus.	18 Em todas as circunstâncias, dai graças, porque esta é a vosso respeito a vontade de Deus em Jesus Cristo.
19 Do not stifle the Spirit	19 Não extingais o Espírito.
20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt;	20 Não desprezeis as profecias.
21 test everything and hold on to what is good	21 Examinai tudo: abraçai o que é bom.
22 and shun every form of evil.	22 Guardai-vos de toda a espécie de mal.
23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.	23 O Deus da paz vos conceda santidade perfeita. Que todo o vosso ser, espírito, alma e corpo, seja conservado irrepreensível para a vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo!
24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out.	24 Fiel é aquele que vos chama, e o cumprirá.
25 Pray for us, my brothers.	25 Irmãos, orai também por nós.
26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss.	26 Saudai a todos os irmãos com o ósculo santo.
27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers.	27 Peço-vos encarecidamente, no Senhor, que esta carta seja lida a todos os irmãos.
