1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you	1 En lo que se refiere al tiempo y al momento, hermanos, no tenéis necesidad que os escriba.
2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.	2 Vosotros mismos sabéis perfectamente que el Día del Señor ha de venir como un ladrón en la noche.
3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape.	3 Cuando digan: «Paz y seguridad», entonces mismo, de repente, vendrá sobre ellos la ruina, como los dolores de parto a la que está encinta; y no escaparán.
4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief.	4 Pero vosotros, hermanos, no vivís en la oscuridad, para que ese Día os sorprenda como ladrón,
5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness,	5 pues todos vosotros sois hijos de la luz e hijos del día. Nosotros no somos de la noche ni de las tinieblas.
6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.	6 Así pues, no durmamos como los demás, sino velemos y seamos sobrios.
7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk,	7 Pues los que duermen, de noche duermen, y los que se embriagan, de noche se embriagan.
8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet.	8 Nosotros, por el contrario, que somos del día, seamos sobrios; revistamos la coraza de la fe y de la caridad, con el yelmo de la esperanza de salvación.
9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,	9 Dios no nos ha destinado para la cólera, sino para obtener la salvación por nuestro Señor Jesucristo,
10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him.	10 que murió por nosotros, para que, velando o durmiendo, vivamos juntos con él.
11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already.	11 Por esto, confortaos mutuamente y edificaos los unos a los otros, como ya lo hacéis.
12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you.	12 Os pedimos, hermanos, que tengáis en consideración a los que trabajan entre vosotros, os presiden en el Señor y os amonestan.
13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves.	13 Tenedles en la mayor estima con amor por su labor. Vivid en paz unos con otros.
14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone.	14 Os exhortamos, asimismo, hermanos, a que amonestéis a los que viven desconcertados, animéis a los pusilánimes, sostengáis a los débiles y seáis pacientes con todos.
15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone.	15 Mirad que nadie devuelva a otro mal por mal, antes bien, procurad siempre el bien mutuo y el de todos.
16 Always be joyful;	16 Estad siempre alegres.
17 pray constantly;	17 Orad constantemente.
18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus.	18 En todo dad gracias, pues esto es lo que Dios, en Cristo Jesús, quiere de vosotros.
19 Do not stifle the Spirit	19 No extingáis el Espíritu;
20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt;	20 no despreciéis las profecías;
21 test everything and hold on to what is good	21 examinadlo todo y quedaos con lo bueno.
22 and shun every form of evil.	22 Absteneos de todo género de mal.
23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.	23 Que El, el Dios de la paz, os santifique plenamente, y que todo vuestro ser, el espíritu, el alma y el cuerpo, se conserve sin mancha hasta la Venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out.	24 Fiel es el que os llama y es él quien lo hará.
25 Pray for us, my brothers.	25 Hermanos, orad también por nosotros.
26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss.	26 Saludad a todos los hermanos con el beso santo.
27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers.	27 Os conjuro por el Señor que esta carta sea leída a todos los hermanos.
