1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you	1 - Quanto al tempo e al momento, o fratelli, non avete bisogno che ve ne scriva;
2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.	2 voi stessi sapete benissimo che il dì del Signore verrà come un ladro di notte.
3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape.	3 Quando diranno: «Pace e sicurezza», allora improvvisa sopraggiungerà la rovina, come le doglie del parto a donna incinta, e non sfuggiranno.
4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief.	4 Ma voi, o fratelli, non siete nelle tenebre, sì che quel giorno vi abbia a sorprendere come un ladro;
5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness,	5 poichè siete tutti figli della luce e figli del giorno; noi non siamo della notte nè delle tenebre.
6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.	6 Adunque non dormiamo come gli altri, ma vegliamo e siamo sobrii.
7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk,	7 Poichè quei che dormono, dormon di notte, e quei che si inebriano, s'inebriano di notte;
8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet.	8 ma noi figli del giorno, siamo sobrii, rivestendo la corazza della fede e della carità, e prendendo per elmo la speranza della salvezza;
9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,	9 poichè Iddio non ci ha destinati all'ira ma all'acquisto della salvezza per mezzo del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo,
10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him.	10 morto per noi, affinchè, sia che vegliamo sia che dormiamo, insieme con lui viviamo.
11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already.	11 Perciò consolatevi a vicenda, ed edificatevi l'un l'altro, come state facendo.
12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you.	12 Vi preghiamo poi, o fratelli, di riconoscere quelli che faticano tra voi e vi guidano nel Signore e vi danno consigli;
13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves.	13 abbiateli in amore grande per l'opera loro. Vivete in pace fra voi.
14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone.	14 E vi esortiamo, o fratelli, ammonite i disordinati, confortate i pusillanimi, sostenete i deboli, siate pazienti con tutti.
15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone.	15 Badate che nessuno renda altrui male per male, ma sempre fatevi del bene a vicenda e verso tutti.
16 Always be joyful;	16 Sempre state allegri,
17 pray constantly;	17 e pregate senza cessar mai.
18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus.	18 In ogni cosa rendete grazie, poichè questa è la volontà di Dio manifestata a voi in Gesù Cristo.
19 Do not stifle the Spirit	19 Non spegnete lo spirito.
20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt;	20 Le profezie tenetele in conto.
21 test everything and hold on to what is good	21 Tutto esaminate, ritenete il bene.
22 and shun every form of evil.	22 Da ogni specie di male astenetevi.
23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.	23 Lo stesso Dio della pace vi santifichi in modo completo, e tutto l'essere vostro, lo spirito, l'anima e il corpo, sia conservato irreprensibilmente alla venuta del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo.
24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out.	24 Chi vi ha chiamato è fedele, e farà anche questo.
25 Pray for us, my brothers.	25 Fratelli, pregate per noi.
26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss.	26 Salutate tutti i fratelli col bacio santo.
27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers.	27 Vi scongiuro pel Signore che questa lettera sia letta da tutti i santi fratelli.
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.2Th 1:1 Paul, Silvanus and Timothy, to the Church in Thessalonica which is in God our Father and the LordJesus Christ	28 La grazia del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo sia con voi.
