John 11

1 There was a man named Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister, Martha, and he wasil .	1 Volt egy Lázár nevű beteg Betániában, Máriának és nővérének, Mártának a falujában.
2 It was the same Mary, the sister of the sick man Lazarus, who anointed the Lord with ointment andwiped his feet with her hair.	2 Mária volt az, aki megkente az Urat kenettel, és lábát hajával törölgette. Az ő testvére, Lázár volt beteg.
3 The sisters sent this message to Jesus, 'Lord, the man you love is il .'	3 A nővérek üzentek érte: »Uram, íme, akit szeretsz, beteg.«

11 He said that and then added, 'Our friend Lazarus is at rest; I am going to wake him.'	11 Ezt mondta, azután így szólt hozzájuk: »A barátunk, Lázár elaludt, de megyek, hogy felkeltsem őt az álomból.«
12 The disciples said to him, 'Lord, if he is at rest he wil be saved.'	12 A tanítványok erre azt mondták: »Uram, ha alszik, meg fog gyógyulni.«
13 Jesus was speaking of the death of Lazarus, but they thought that by 'rest' he meant 'sleep';	13 Jézus azonban a haláláról szólt, azok pedig azt gondolták, hogy az álom nyugalmáról beszél.
14 so Jesus put it plainly, 'Lazarus is dead;	14 Ezért Jézus nyíltan megmondta nekik: »Lázár meghalt,
15 and for your sake I am glad I was not there because now you will believe. But let us go to him.'	15 és örülök miattatok, hogy nem voltam ott, hogy majd higgyetek. De menjünk hozzá!«

25 Jesus said: I am the resurrection. Anyone who believes in me, even though that person dies, wil live,	25 Jézus azt mondta neki: »Én vagyok a föltámadás és az élet. Aki hisz bennem, még ha meg is halt, élni fog,
26 and whoever lives and believes in me wil never die. Do you believe this?	26 és mindaz, aki él és hisz bennem, nem hal meg soha. Hiszed ezt?«
27 'Yes, Lord,' she said, 'I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who was to come intothis world.'	27 Márta azt felelte neki: »Igen, Uram, hiszem, hogy te vagy a Krisztus, az Isten Fia, aki a világba jön.«

36 and the Jews said, 'See how much he loved him!'	36 Erre a zsidók azt mondták: »Íme, mennyire szerette őt!«
37 But there were some who remarked, 'He opened the eyes of the blind man. Could he not haveprevented this man's death?'	37 De voltak köztük, akik így szóltak: »Ő, aki megnyitotta a vak szemeit, nem tehette volna meg, hogy ez meg ne haljon?«
38 Sighing again, Jesus reached the tomb: it was a cave with a stone to close the opening.	38 Jézus, lelkében még mindig megindulva a sírhoz ment. Egy barlang volt az, és kővel volt befedve.

41 So they took the stone away. Then Jesus lifted up his eyes and said: Father, I thank you for hearingmy prayer.	41 A követ tehát elvették. Jézus pedig fölemelte szemeit, és így szólt: »Atyám, hálát adok neked, hogy meghallgattál.
42 I myself knew that you hear me always, but I speak for the sake of all these who are standing aroundme, so that they may believe it was you who sent me.	42 Én ugyan tudtam, hogy mindenkor meghallgatsz, csak a körülálló népért mondtam, hogy higgyék, hogy te küldtél engem.«
43 When he had said this, he cried in a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come out!'	43 Miután ezeket mondta, hangosan ezt kiáltotta: »Lázár, jöjj ki!«
44 The dead man came out, his feet and hands bound with strips of material, and a cloth over his face.Jesus said to them, 'Unbind him, let him go free.'	44 S az, aki halott volt, kijött. 49 One of them, Caiaphas, the high priest that year, said, 'You do not seem to have grasped thesituation at al ;	49 Egyikük pedig, Kaifás, aki abban az esztendőben főpap volt, azt mondta nekik: »Ti nem tudtok semmit,
50 you fail to see that it is to your advantage that one man should die for the people, rather than that thewhole nation should perish.'	50 s arra sem gondoltok, hogy jobb nektek, ha egy ember hal meg a népért, mint ha az egész nemzet elvész!«
51 He did not speak in his own person, but as high priest of that year he was prophesying that Jesuswas to die for the nation-	51 Ezt pedig nem magától mondta, hanem, főpap lévén abban az esztendőben, megjövendölte, hogy Jézus meg fog halni a nemzetért,
52 and not for the nation only, but also to gather together into one the scattered children of God.	52 és nemcsak a nemzetért, hanem hogy az Isten szétszórt gyermekeit egybegyűjtse.
53 From that day onwards they were determined to kill him.	53 Attól a naptól tehát elhatározták, hogy megölik őt.
54 So Jesus no longer went about openly among the Jews, but left the district for a town cal ed Ephraim,in the country bordering on the desert, and stayed there with his disciples.	54 Ezért Jézus már nem járt nyilvánosan a zsidók közt.
