John 11

NEW JERUSALEM	EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL
1 There was a man named Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister, Martha, and he wasil .	1 Ein Mann war krank, Lazarus aus Betanien, dem Dorf, in dem Maria und ihre Schwester Marta wohnten.
2 It was the same Mary, the sister of the sick man Lazarus, who anointed the Lord with ointment andwiped his feet with her hair.	2 Maria ist die, die den Herrn mit Öl gesalbt und seine Füße mit ihrem Haar abgetrocknet hat; deren Bruder Lazarus war krank.
3 The sisters sent this message to Jesus, 'Lord, the man you love is il .'	3 Daher sandten die Schwestern Jesus die Nachricht: Herr, dein Freund ist krank.
4 On receiving the message, Jesus said, 'This sickness will not end in death, but it is for God's glory sothat through it the Son of God may be glorified.'	4 Als Jesus das hörte, sagte er: Diese Krankheit wird nicht zum Tod führen, sondern dient der Verherrlichung Gottes: Durch sie soll der Sohn Gottes verherrlicht werden.
5 Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus,	5 Denn Jesus liebte Marta, ihre Schwester und Lazarus.
6 yet when he heard that he was il he stayed where he was for two more days	6 Als er hörte, dass Lazarus krank war, blieb er noch zwei Tage an dem Ort, wo er sich aufhielt.
7 before saying to the disciples, 'Let us go back to Judaea.'	7 Danach sagte er zu den Jüngern: Lasst uns wieder nach Judäa gehen.
8 The disciples said, 'Rabbi, it is not long since the Jews were trying to stone you; are you going backthere again?'	8 Die Jünger entgegneten ihm: Rabbi, eben noch wollten dich die Juden steinigen und du gehst wieder dorthin?
9 Jesus replied: Are there not twelve hours in the day? No one who walks in the daytime stumbles,having the light of this world to see by;	9 Jesus antwortete: Hat der Tag nicht zwölf Stunden? Wenn jemand am Tag umhergeht, stößt er nicht an, weil er das Licht dieser Welt sieht;
10 anyone who walks around at night stumbles, having no light as a guide.	10 wenn aber jemand in der Nacht umhergeht, stößt er an, weil das Licht nicht in ihm ist.
11 He said that and then added, 'Our friend Lazarus is at rest; I am going to wake him.'	11 So sprach er. Dann sagte er zu ihnen: Lazarus, unser Freund, schläft; aber ich gehe hin, um ihn aufzuwecken.
12 The disciples said to him, 'Lord, if he is at rest he wil be saved.'	12 Da sagten die Jünger zu ihm: Herr, wenn er schläft, dann wird er gesund werden.
13 Jesus was speaking of the death of Lazarus, but they thought that by 'rest' he meant 'sleep';	13 Jesus hatte aber von seinem Tod gesprochen, während sie meinten, er spreche von dem gewöhnlichen Schlaf.
14 so Jesus put it plainly, 'Lazarus is dead;	14 Darauf sagte ihnen Jesus unverhüllt: Lazarus ist gestorben.
15 and for your sake I am glad I was not there because now you will believe. But let us go to him.'	15 Und ich freue mich für euch, dass ich nicht dort war; denn ich will, dass ihr glaubt. Doch wir wollen zu ihm gehen.
16 Then Thomas -- known as the Twin -- said to the other disciples, 'Let us also go to die with him.'	16 Da sagte Thomas, genannt Didymus (Zwilling), zu den anderen Jüngern: Dann lasst uns mit ihm gehen, um mit ihm zu sterben.
17 On arriving, Jesus found that Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days already.	17 Als Jesus ankam, fand er Lazarus schon vier Tage im Grab liegen.
18 Bethany is only about two miles from Jerusalem,	18 Betanien war nahe bei Jerusalem, etwa fünfzehn Stadien entfernt.
19 and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them about their brother.	19 Viele Juden waren zu Marta und Maria gekommen, um sie wegen ihres Bruders zu trösten.
20 When Martha heard that Jesus was coming she went to meet him. Mary remained sitting in thehouse.	20 Als Marta hörte, dass Jesus komme, ging sie ihm entgegen, Maria aber blieb im Haus.
21 Martha said to Jesus, 'Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died,	21 Marta sagte zu Jesus: Herr, wärst du hier gewesen, dann wäre mein Bruder nicht gestorben.
22 but even now I know that God will grant whatever you ask of him.'	22 Aber auch jetzt weiß ich: Alles, worum du Gott bittest, wird Gott dir geben.
23 Jesus said to her, 'Your brother wil rise again.'	23 Jesus sagte zu ihr: Dein Bruder wird auferstehen.
24 Martha said, 'I know he wil rise again at the resurrection on the last day.'	24 Marta sagte zu ihm: Ich weiß, dass er auferstehen wird bei der Auferstehung am Letzten Tag.
25 Jesus said: I am the resurrection. Anyone who believes in me, even though that person dies, wil live,	25 Jesus erwiderte ihr: Ich bin die Auferstehung und das Leben. Wer an mich glaubt, wird leben, auch wenn er stirbt,
26 and whoever lives and believes in me wil never die. Do you believe this?	26 und jeder, der lebt und an mich glaubt, wird auf ewig nicht sterben. Glaubst du das?
27 'Yes, Lord,' she said, 'I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who was to come intothis world.'	27 Marta antwortete ihm: Ja, Herr, ich glaube, dass du der Messias bist, der Sohn Gottes, der in die Welt kommen soll.
28 When she had said this, she went and called her sister Mary, saying in a low voice, 'The Master ishere and wants to see you.'	28 Nach diesen Worten ging sie weg, rief heimlich ihre Schwester Maria und sagte zu ihr: Der Meister ist da und lässt dich rufen.
29 Hearing this, Mary got up quickly and went to him.	29 Als Maria das hörte, stand sie sofort auf und ging zu ihm.
30 Jesus had not yet come into the vil age; he was still at the place where Martha had met him.	30 Denn Jesus war noch nicht in das Dorf gekommen; er war noch dort, wo ihn Marta getroffen hatte.
31 When the Jews who were in the house comforting Mary saw her get up so quickly and go out, theyfol owed her, thinking that she was going to the tomb to weep there.	31 Die Juden, die bei Maria im Haus waren und sie trösteten, sahen, dass sie plötzlich aufstand und hinausging. Da folgten sie ihr, weil sie meinten, sie gehe zum Grab, um dort zu weinen.
32 Mary went to Jesus, and as soon as she saw him she threw herself at his feet, saying, 'Lord, if youhad been here, my brother would not have died.'	32 Als Maria dorthin kam, wo Jesus war, und ihn sah, fiel sie ihm zu Füßen und sagte zu ihm: Herr, wärst du hier gewesen, dann wäre mein Bruder nicht gestorben.
33 At the sight of her tears, and those of the Jews who had come with her, Jesus was greatly distressed,and with a profound sigh he said,	33 Als Jesus sah, wie sie weinte und wie auch die Juden weinten, die mit ihr gekommen waren, war er im Innersten erregt und erschüttert.
34 'Where have you put him?' They said, 'Lord, come and see.'	34 Er sagte: Wo habt ihr ihn bestattet? Sie antworteten ihm: Herr, komm und sieh!
35 Jesus wept;	35 Da weinte Jesus.
36 and the Jews said, 'See how much he loved him!'	36 Die Juden sagten: Seht, wie lieb er ihn hatte!
37 But there were some who remarked, 'He opened the eyes of the blind man. Could he not haveprevented this man's death?'	37 Einige aber sagten: Wenn er dem Blinden die Augen geöffnet hat, hätte er dann nicht auch verhindern können, dass dieser hier starb?
38 Sighing again, Jesus reached the tomb: it was a cave with a stone to close the opening.	38 Da wurde Jesus wiederum innerlich erregt und er ging zum Grab. Es war eine Höhle, die mit einem Stein verschlossen war.
39 Jesus said, 'Take the stone away.' Martha, the dead man's sister, said to him, 'Lord, by now he willsmel ; this is the fourth day since he died.'	39 Jesus sagte: Nehmt den Stein weg! Marta, die Schwester des Verstorbenen, entgegnete ihm: Herr, er riecht aber schon, denn es ist bereits der vierte Tag.
40 Jesus replied, 'Have I not told you that if you believe you wil see the glory of God?'	40 Jesus sagte zu ihr: Habe ich dir nicht gesagt: Wenn du glaubst, wirst du die Herrlichkeit Gottes sehen?
41 So they took the stone away. Then Jesus lifted up his eyes and said: Father, I thank you for hearingmy prayer.	41 Da nahmen sie den Stein weg. Jesus aber erhob seine Augen und sprach: Vater, ich danke dir, dass du mich erhört hast.
42 I myself knew that you hear me always, but I speak for the sake of all these who are standing aroundme, so that they may believe it was you who sent me.	42 Ich wusste, dass du mich immer erhörst; aber wegen der Menge, die um mich herum steht, habe ich es gesagt; denn sie sollen glauben, dass du mich gesandt hast.
43 When he had said this, he cried in a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come out!'	43 Nachdem er dies gesagt hatte, rief er mit lauter Stimme: Lazarus, komm heraus!
44 The dead man came out, his feet and hands bound with strips of material, and a cloth over his face.Jesus said to them, 'Unbind him, let him go free.'	44 Da kam der Verstorbene heraus; seine Füße und Hände waren mit Binden umwickelt, und sein Gesicht war mit einem Schweißtuch verhüllt. Jesus sagte zu ihnen: Löst ihm die Binden und lasst ihn weggehen!
45 Many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what he did, believed in him,	45 Viele der Juden, die zu Maria gekommen waren und gesehen hatten, was Jesus getan hatte, kamen zum Glauben an ihn.
46 but some of them went to the Pharisees to tel them what Jesus had done.	46 Aber einige von ihnen gingen zu den Pharisäern und berichteten ihnen, was er getan hatte.
47 Then the chief priests and Pharisees cal ed a meeting. 'Here is this man working al these signs,' theysaid, 'and what action are we taking?	47 Da beriefen die Hohenpriester und die Pharisäer eine Versammlung des Hohen Rates ein. Sie sagten: Was sollen wir tun? Dieser Mensch tut viele Zeichen.
48 If we let him go on in this way everybody wil believe in him, and the Romans wil come and suppressthe Holy Place and our nation.'	48 Wenn wir ihn gewähren lassen, werden alle an ihn glauben. Dann werden die Römer kommen und uns die heilige Stätte und das Volk nehmen.
49 One of them, Caiaphas, the high priest that year, said, 'You do not seem to have grasped thesituation at al ;	49 Einer von ihnen, Kajaphas, der Hohepriester jenes Jahres, sagte zu ihnen: Ihr versteht überhaupt nichts.
50 you fail to see that it is to your advantage that one man should die for the people, rather than that thewhole nation should perish.'	50 Ihr bedenkt nicht, dass es besser für euch ist, wenn ein einziger Mensch für das Volk stirbt, als wenn das ganze Volk zugrunde geht.
51 He did not speak in his own person, but as high priest of that year he was prophesying that Jesuswas to die for the nation-	51 Das sagte er nicht aus sich selbst; sondern weil er der Hohepriester jenes Jahres war, sagte er aus prophetischer Eingebung, dass Jesus für das Volk sterben werde.
52 and not for the nation only, but also to gather together into one the scattered children of God.	52 Aber er sollte nicht nur für das Volk sterben, sondern auch, um die versprengten Kinder Gottes wieder zu sammeln.
53 From that day onwards they were determined to kill him.	53 Von diesem Tag an waren sie entschlossen, ihn zu töten.
54 So Jesus no longer went about openly among the Jews, but left the district for a town cal ed Ephraim,in the country bordering on the desert, and stayed there with his disciples.	54 Jesus bewegte sich von nun an nicht mehr öffentlich unter den Juden, sondern zog sich von dort in die Gegend nahe der Wüste zurück, an einen Ort namens Efraim. Dort blieb er mit seinen Jüngern.
55 The Jewish Passover was drawing near, and many of the country people who had gone up toJerusalem before the Passover to purify themselves	55 Das Paschafest der Juden war nahe und viele zogen schon vor dem Paschafest aus dem ganzen Land nach Jerusalem hinauf, um sich zu heiligen.
56 were looking out for Jesus, saying to one another as they stood about in the Temple, 'What do youthink? Will he come to the festival or not?'	56 Sie fragten nach Jesus und sagten zueinander, während sie im Tempel zusammenstanden: Was meint ihr? Er wird wohl kaum zum Fest kommen.
57 The chief priests and Pharisees had by now given their orders: anyone who knew where he was mustinform them so that they could arrest him.	57 Die Hohenpriester und die Pharisäer hatten nämlich, um ihn festnehmen zu können, angeordnet: Wenn jemand weiß, wo er sich aufhält, soll er es melden.
