1 'In al truth I tel you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold through the gate, but climbs in someother way, is a thief and a bandit.	1 In verità, in verità vi dico: chi non entra nell'ovile per la porta, ma vi sale per altra parte, è ladrone, e assassino.
2 He who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the flock;	2 Ma quegli, che entra per la porta è pastore delle pecorelle.
3 the gatekeeper lets him in, the sheep hear his voice, one by one he calls his own sheep and leadsthem out.	3 A lui apre il portinaio, e le pecorelle ascoltano la sua voce, ed egli chiama per nome le sue pecorelle, e le mena fuora.
4 When he has brought out al those that are his, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep fol ow becausethey know his voice.	4 E quando ha messe fuora le sue pecorelle, cammina innanzi ad esse: e le pecorelle lo seguono, perché conoscono la sua voce.
5 They wil never fol ow a stranger, but wil run away from him because they do not recognise the voiceof strangers.'	5 Ma non vanno dietro a uno straniero, anzi fuggon da lui: perché la voce non conoscono degli stranieri.
6 Jesus told them this parable but they failed to understand what he was saying to them.	6 Questa similitudine fu loro detta da Gesù. Ma quelli non compresero quel, ch'egli dicesse loro.
7 So Jesus spoke to them again: In all truth I tell you, I am the gate of the sheepfold.	7 Disse adunque loro nuovamente: Gesù: In verità, in verità vi dico, ch'io sono porta alle pecorelle.
8 Al who have come before me are thieves and bandits, but the sheep took no notice of them.	8 Quanti son venuti, sono tutti ladri, e assassini, e le pecorelle non gli hanno ascoltati.
9 I am the gate. Anyone who enters through me will be safe: such a one will go in and out and wil findpasture.	9 Io sono la porta. Chi per me passerà, sarà salvo: ed entrerà, e uscirà, e troverà pascoli.
10 The thief comes only to steal and kil and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have itto the full.	10 Il ladro non viene, se non per rubare, e uccidere, e disperdere. Io sono venuto, perché abbiano vita, e siano nell'abbondanza.
11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep.	11 Io sono il buon Pastore. Il buon pastore da la vita per le sue pecorelle.
12 The hired man, since he is not the shepherd and the sheep do not belong to him, abandons thesheep as soon as he sees a wolf coming, and runs away, and then the wolf attacks and scatters the sheep;	12 Il mercenario poi, e quei, che non è pastore, di cui proprie non sono le pecorelle, vede venire il lupo, e lascia le pecorelle, e fugge: e il lupo rapisce, e disperge le pecorelle.
13 he runs away because he is only a hired man and has no concern for the sheep.	13 Il mercenario fugge, perché è mercenario, e non gli cale delle pecorelle.
14 I am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me,	14 Io sono il buon Pastore: e conosco le mie, e le mie conoscono me.
15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for my sheep.	15 Come il Padre conosce me, e io conosco il Padre: e do la mia vita pero le mie pecorelle.
16 And there are other sheep I have that are not of this fold, and I must lead these too. They too willlisten to my voice, and there wil be only one flock, one shepherd.	16 E ho dell'altre pecorelle, le quali, non sono di questa greggia: anche queste fa d'uopo, che io raguni, e ascolteranno la mia voce, e sarà un solo gregge, e un solo pastore.
17 The Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.	17 Per questo mi ama il Padre: perché depongo la mia vita per nuovamente ripigliarla.
18 No one takes it from me; I lay it down of my own free wil , and as I have power to lay it down, so Ihave power to take it up again; and this is the command I have received from my Father.	18 Nissuno a me la toglie: ma io la depongo da me stesso, e sono padrone di deporla, e sono padrone di riprenderla: questo è il comandamento, che ho ricevuto dal Padre mio.
19 These words caused a fresh division among the Jews.	19 Nacque nuovamente scisma fra i Giudei per causa di questi discorsi.
20 Many said, 'He is possessed, he is raving; why do you listen to him?'	20 Imperocché molti di essi dicevano: Egli è indemoniato, e ha perduto il senno: perché state a sentirlo?
21 Others said, 'These are not the words of a man possessed by a devil: could a devil open the eyes ofthe blind?'	21 Altri dicevano: discorsi come questi non sono da indemoniato: può forse il Demonio aprire gli occhi a' ciechi?
22 It was the time of the feast of Dedication in Jerusalem. It was winter,	22 E si faceva in Gerusalemme la festa della Sagra: ed era d'inverno.
23 and Jesus was in the Temple walking up and down in the Portico of Solomon.	23 E Gesù camminava pel Tempio nel portico di Salomone.
24 The Jews gathered round him and said, 'How much longer are you going to keep us in suspense? Ifyou are the Christ, tel us openly.'	24 Se gli affollarono perciò d'intorno i Giudei, e gli dicevano: fino a quando terrai tu in sospeso gli animi nostri? Se tu se' Cristo, dillo a noi apertamente.
25 Jesus replied: I have told you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father's name are mywitness;	25 Rispose loro Gesù: ve l'ho detto, e voi non credete: le opere, che io fo nel nome del Padre mio, queste parlano a favor mio.
26 but you do not believe, because you are no sheep of mine.	26 Ma voi non credete, perché non siete del numero delle mie pecorelle.
27 The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me.	27 Le mie pecorelle ascoltano la mia voce: e io le conosco, ed elleno mi tengono dietro.
28 I give them eternal life; they will never be lost and no one wil ever steal them from my hand.	28 Ed io do ad esse la vita eterna: e non periranno in eterno, e nissuno le strapperà a me di mano.
29 The Father, for what he has given me, is greater than anyone, and no one can steal anything fromthe Father's hand.	29 Quello, che il Padre ha dato a me, sorpassa ogni cosa: e niuno può rapirle di mano del Padre mio.
30 The Father and I are one.	30 Io, e il Padre siamo una cosa sola.
31 The Jews fetched stones to stone him,	31 Dieder perciò i Giudei di piglio alle pietre per lapidarlo.
32 so Jesus said to them, 'I have shown you many good works from my Father; for which of these areyou stoning me?'	32 Disse loro Gesù: Molte buone opere vi ho fatto vedere per virtù del Padre mio, per quale di queste opere mi lapidate?
33 The Jews answered him, 'We are stoning you, not for doing a good work, but for blasphemy; thoughyou are only a man, you claim to be God.'	33 Gli risposero i Giudei, e dissero: Non ti lapidiamo per un'opera buona, ma per la bestemmia: e perché tu essendo uomo, fai Dio te stesso.
34 Jesus answered: Is it not written in your Law: I said, you are gods?	34 Rispose loro Gesù: Non è egli scritto nella vostra legge: Io dissi: siete dii?
35 So it uses the word 'gods' of those people to whom the word of God was addressed -- and scripturecannot be set aside.	35 Se dii chiamò quegli, ai quali Dio parlò, e la Scrittura non può mancare:
36 Yet to someone whom the Father has consecrated and sent into the world you say, 'You areblaspheming' because I said, 'I am Son of God.'	36 Io cui il Padre ha santificato, mandato al mondo, voi dite: Perché tu bestemmii, perché ho detto: Son Figliuolo di Dio?
37 If I am not doing my Father's work, there is no need to believe me;	37 Se non fo le opere del Padre mio non mi credete.
38 but if I am doing it, then even if you refuse to believe in me, at least believe in the work I do; then youwil know for certain that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.	38 Ma se le fo, quando non vogliate credere a me, credete alle opere, onde conosciate, e crediate, che il Padre è in me, e io nel Padre.
39 They again wanted to arrest him then, but he eluded their clutches.	39 Tentavano pertanto di prenderlo, ma egli usci dalle loro mani.
40 He went back again to the far side of the Jordan to the district where John had been baptising at firstand he stayed there.	40 E se n' andò di nuovo di lì dal Giordano in quel luogo, dove Giovanni avea dato principio a battezzare: e quivi si fermò.
41 Many people who came to him said, 'John gave no signs, but all he said about this man was true';	41 E andarono molti da lui, e dicevano: in quanto a Giovanni ei non fece nissun miracolo.
42 and many of them believed in him.	42 E tutto quello, che di costui disse Giovanni, era la verità. E molti credettero in lui.
