NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 In the beginning was the Word: the Word was with God and the Word was God.	1 In principio era il Verbo e il Verbo era presso Dio e Dio era il Verbo.
2 He was with God in the beginning.	2 Questi era in principio presso Dio.
3 Through him al things came into being, not one thing came into being except through him.	3 Tutto per mezzo di lui fu fatto e senza di lui non fu fatto nulla di ciò che è stato fatto.
4 What has come into being in him was life, life that was the light of men;	4 In lui era la vita e la vita era la luce degli uomini;
5 and light shines in darkness, and darkness could not overpower it.	5 e la luce nelle tenebre brilla e le tenebre non la compresero.
6 A man came, sent by God. His name was John.	6 Ci fu un uomo mandato da Dio; il suo nome era Giovanni.
7 He came as a witness, to bear witness to the light, so that everyone might believe through him.	7 Questi venne come testimone per rendere testimonianza alla luce, affinché tutti credessero per mezzo di lui.
8 He was not the light, he was to bear witness to the light.	8 Non era lui la luce, ma per rendere testimonianza alla luce.
9 The Word was the real light that gives light to everyone; he was coming into the world.	9 Era la luce vera, che illumina ogni uomo, quella che veniva nel mondo.
10 He was in the world that had come into being through him, and the world did not recognise him.	10 Era nel mondo e il mondo fu fatto per mezzo di lui e il mondo non lo riconobbe.
11 He came to his own and his own people did not accept him.	11 Venne nella sua proprietà e i suoi non lo accolsero.
12 But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believed inhis name	12 A quanti però lo accolsero diede il potere di divenire figli di Dio, a coloro che credono nel suo nome,
13 who were born not from human stock or human desire or human will but from God himself.	13 i quali non da sangue né da volontà di carne né da volontà di uomo ma da Dio furono generati.
14 The Word became flesh, he lived among us, and we saw his glory, the glory that he has from theFather as only Son of the Father, ful of grace and truth.	14 E il Verbo si fece carne e dimorò fra noi e abbiamo visto la sua gloria, gloria come di Unigenito dal Padre, pieno di grazia e di verità.
15 John witnesses to him. He proclaims: 'This is the one of whom I said: He who comes after me haspassed ahead of me because he existed before me.'	15 Giovanni rende testimonianza a lui e proclama: "Questi era colui di cui dissi: "Colui che viene dopo di me ebbe la precedenza davanti a me, perché era prima di me".
16 Indeed, from his ful ness we have, al of us, received -- one gift replacing another,	16 Della sua pienezza infatti noi tutti ricevemmo e grazia su grazia;
17 for the Law was given through Moses, grace and truth have come through Jesus Christ.	17 poiché la legge fu data per mezzo di Mosè, la grazia e la verità divennero realtà per mezzo di Gesù Cristo.

19 This was the witness of John, when the Jews sent to him priests and Levites from Jerusalem to askhim, 'Who are you?'	19 Ora, questa è la testimonianza di Giovanni, quando i Giudei gli mandarono da Gerusalemme sacerdoti e leviti per domandargli: "Tu, chi sei?".
20 He declared, he did not deny but declared, 'I am not the Christ.'	20 E professò, e non negò, e professò: "Io non sono il Cristo".
21 So they asked, 'Then are you Elijah?' He replied, 'I am not.' 'Are you the Prophet?' He answered, 'No.'	21 Gli domandarono: "Chi sei tu allora? Sei Elia?". Egli dice: "Non lo sono". "Sei il profeta?". Rispose: "No!".
22 So they said to him, 'Who are you? We must take back an answer to those who sent us. What haveyou to say about yourself?'	22 Gli dissero allora: "Chi sei? Ché possiamo dare una risposta a chi ci ha inviati! Cosa dici di te stesso?".
23 So he said, 'I am, as Isaiah prophesied: A voice of one that cries in the desert: Prepare a way for theLord. Make his paths straight!'	23 Affermò: "Io sono voce di uno che grida nel deserto: raddrizzate la via del Signore, come disse il profeta Isaia".
24 Now those who had been sent were Pharisees,	24 Essi erano stati mandati dai farisei.
25 and they put this question to him, 'Why are you baptising if you are not the Christ, and not Elijah, andnot the Prophet?'	25 Costoro gli domandarono ancora: "Perché dunque battezzi se non sei il Cristo né Elia né il profeta?".
26 John answered them, 'I baptise with water; but standing among you -- unknown to you-	26 Rispose loro Giovanni: "Io battezzo con acqua; in mezzo a voi sta colui che voi non conoscete,
27 is the one who is coming after me; and I am not fit to undo the strap of his sandal.'	27 colui che viene dopo di me, di cui non sono degno di sciogliere il legaccio del sandalo".
28 This happened at Bethany, on the far side of the Jordan, where John was baptising.	28 Questi fatti avvennero a Betània al di là del Giordano, dove c'era Giovanni che battezzava.
29 The next day, he saw Jesus coming towards him and said, 'Look, there is the lamb of God that takesaway the sin of the world.	29 L'indomani vede Gesù venirgli incontro e dice: "Ecco l'agnello di Dio che toglie il peccato del mondo.
30 It was of him that I said, "Behind me comes one who has passed ahead of me because he existedbefore me."	30 Questi è colui di cui ho detto: "Colui che viene dopo di me ebbe la precedenza davanti a me, perché era prima di me".
31 I did not know him myself, and yet my purpose in coming to baptise with water was so that he might berevealed to Israel.'	31 Io non lo conoscevo, ma proprio perché fosse rivelato a Israele sono venuto a battezzare con acqua".
32 And John declared, 'I saw the Spirit come down on him like a dove from heaven and rest on him.	32 Poi Giovanni testimoniò: "Ho visto lo Spirito scendere dal cielo come una colomba, e si fermò sopra di lui.
33 I did not know him myself, but he who sent me to baptise with water had said to me, "The man onwhom you see the Spirit come down and rest is the one who is to baptise with the Holy Spirit."	33 Io non lo conoscevo, ma colui che mi mandò a battezzare con acqua mi disse: "Colui sul quale vedrai scendere lo Spirito e fermarsi su di lui, è lui che battezza con lo Spirito Santo".
34 I have seen and I testify that he is the Chosen One of God.'	34 E io l'ho visto e ho testimoniato che lui è il Figlio di Dio".
35 The next day as John stood there again with two of his disciples, Jesus went past,	35 L'indomani, Giovanni si trovava ancora là con due dei suoi discepoli.
36 and John looked towards him and said, 'Look, there is the lamb of God.'	36 Fissando lo sguardo su Gesù che passava, egli dice: "Ecco l'agnello di Dio".
37 And the two disciples heard what he said and followed Jesus.	37 I due discepoli lo sentirono parlare così e seguirono Gesù.
38 Jesus turned round, saw them following and said, 'What do you want?' They answered, 'Rabbi' --which means Teacher-'where do you live?'	38 Gesù, voltosi e visti i due discepoli che lo stavano seguendo, dice loro: "Che cercate?". Gli dissero: "Rabbì (che, tradotto, significa "maestro"), dove stai?".
39 He replied, 'Come and see'; so they went and saw where he lived, and stayed with him that day. It wasabout the tenth hour.	39 "Venite e vedrete", dice loro. Andarono e videro dove stava e quel giorno stettero presso di lui. Era circa l'ora decima.
40 One of these two who became followers of Jesus after hearing what John had said was Andrew, thebrother of Simon Peter.	40 Andrea, fratello di Simone Pietro, era uno di quei due che avevano ascoltato Giovanni e avevano seguito Gesù.
41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother and say to him, 'We have found the Messiah' -- whichmeans the Christ-	41 Egli trova anzitutto suo fratello Simone e gli dice: "Abbiamo trovato il Messia" (che, tradotto, significa "Cristo").
42 and he took Simon to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, 'You are Simon son of John; you are to becal ed Cephas' -- which means Rock.	42 Lo condusse a Gesù. Fissando lo sguardo su di lui, Gesù disse: "Tu sei Simone, figlio di Giovanni. Ti chiamerai Cefa" (che si traduce "Pietro").
43 The next day, after Jesus had decided to leave for Galilee, he met Philip and said, 'Follow me.'	43 L'indomani decise di partire per la Galilea e trova Filippo. Gesù gli dice: "Séguimi!".
44 Philip came from the same town, Bethsaida, as Andrew and Peter.	44 Filippo era di Betsàida, la città di Andrea e di Pietro.
45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, 'We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and theprophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph, from Nazareth.'	45 Filippo trova Natanaele e gli dice: "Quello di cui hanno scritto Mosè nella legge ed i profeti, noi l'abbiamo trovato: Gesù, figlio di Giuseppe, da Nazaret".
46 Nathanael said to him, 'From Nazareth? Can anything good come from that place?' Philip replied,'Come and see.'	46 "Da Nazaret -- gli disse Natanaele -- può venire qualcosa di buono?". Gli dice Filippo: "Vieni e vedi!".
47 When Jesus saw Nathanael coming he said of him, 'There, truly, is an Israelite in whom there is nodeception.'	47 Gesù vide Natanaele venirgli incontro e dice di lui: "Ecco un autentico israelita, in cui non c'è falsità".
48 Nathanael asked, 'How do you know me?' Jesus replied, 'Before Philip came to call you, I saw youunder the fig tree.'	48 Gli dice Natanaele: "Donde mi conosci?". Gli rispose Gesù: "Prima che Filippo ti chiamasse, ti ho visto sotto il fico".
49 Nathanael answered, 'Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the king of Israel.'	49 Gli rispose Natanaele: "Rabbì, tu sei il Figlio di Dio, tu sei il re d'Israele".
50 Jesus replied, 'You believe that just because I said: I saw you under the fig tree. You are going to seegreater things than that.'	50 Gli rispose Gesù: "Perché ti ho detto che ti ho visto sotto il fico credi? Vedrai cose ben più grandi!".
51 And then he added, 'In al truth I tel you, you will see heaven open and the angels of God ascendingand descending over the Son of man.'	51 Poi soggiunse: "In verità, in verità vi dico: vedrete il cielo aperto e gli angeli di Dio salire e discendere sul Figlio dell'uomo".
