Luke 22

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The feast of Unleavened Bread, cal ed the Passover, was now drawing near,	1 Si avvicinava la festa degli Azzimi, detta anche Pasqua,
2 and the chief priests and the scribes were looking for some way of doing away with him, because theywere afraid of the people.	2 e i capi dei sacerdoti e i dottori della legge cercavano come sopprimerlo. Però temevano il popolo.
3 Then Satan entered into Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was one of the Twelve.	3 Satana allora entrò in Giuda, chiamato Iscariota, che era nel numero dei Dodici.
4 He approached the chief priests and the officers of the guard to discuss some way of handing Jesusover to them.	4 Ed egli andò a mettersi d'accordo con i capi dei sacerdoti e i capi della guardia sul modo di consegnare Gesù nelle loro mani.
5 They were delighted and agreed to give him money.	5 Essi ne furono contenti e convennero di dargli del denaro.
6 He accepted and began to look for an opportunity to betray him to them without people knowing aboutit.	6 Egli fu d'accordo e da quel momento cercava l'occasione propizia per consegnarlo loro senza che il popolo se ne accorgesse.
7 The day of Unleavened Bread came round, on which the Passover had to be sacrificed,	7 Venne poi il giorno degli Azzimi, nel quale si doveva immolare la Pasqua.
8 and he sent Peter and John, saying, 'Go and make the preparations for us to eat the Passover.'	8 Gesù mandò Pietro e Giovanni, dicendo: "Andate a preparare per noi la Pasqua, perché possiamo mangiare".
9 They asked him, 'Where do you want us to prepare it?'	9 Gli domandarono: "Dove vuoi che prepariamo?".
10 He said to them, 'Look, as you go into the city you wil meet a man carrying a pitcher of water. Fol owhim into the house he enters	10 Egli rispose: "Quando entrerete in città, vi verrà incontro un uomo che porta una brocca d'acqua. Seguitelo nella casa dove entrerà.
11 and tel the owner of the house, "The Master says this to you: Where is the room for me to eat thePassover with my disciples?"	11 Poi direte al padrone di casa: "Il Maestro ti dice: Dov'è la sala in cui posso mangiare la Pasqua con i miei discepoli?".
12 The man wil show you a large upper room furnished with couches. Make the preparations there.'	12 Egli vi mostrerà una grande sala, al piano superiore, arredata con divani: là preparate".
13 They set off and found everything as he had told them and prepared the Passover.	13 Essi andarono e trovarono tutto come aveva detto loro e prepararono la Pasqua.
14 When the time came he took his place at table, and the apostles with him.	14 E quando venne l'ora, prese posto a tavola e con lui anche gli apostoli.
15 And he said to them, 'I have ardently longed to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;	15 E disse: "Ho desiderato grandemente di mangiare questa Pasqua con voi, prima di patire,
16 because, I tel you, I shal not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.'	16 perché vi dico che non la mangerò più finché non sia compiuta nel regno di Dio".
17 Then, taking a cup, he gave thanks and said, 'Take this and share it among you,	17 E preso un calice, rese grazie e disse: "Prendetelo e fatelo passare tra voi,
18 because from now on, I tel you, I shall never again drink wine until the kingdom of God comes.'	18 poiché vi dico che da questo momento non berrò più del frutto della vite finché non sia venuto il regno di Dio".
19 Then he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, 'This ismy body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.'	19 Poi, preso un pane, rese grazie, lo spezzò e lo diede loro dicendo: "Questo è il mio corpo che è dato per voi. Fate questo in memoria di me".
20 He did the same with the cup after supper, and said, 'This cup is the new covenant in my bloodpoured out for you.	20 Allo stesso modo, alla fine della cena, prese il calice dicendo: "Questo calice è la nuova alleanza nel mio sangue che è sparso per voi.
21 'But look, here with me on the table is the hand of the man who is betraying me.	21 Ma, ecco, la mano di colui che mi tradisce è con me, sulla mensa.
22 The Son of man is indeed on the path which was decreed, but alas for that man by whom he isbetrayed!'	22 Poiché il Figlio dell'uomo parte, come è stato decretato; ma guai a quell'uomo per mezzo del quale egli è tradito".
23 And they began to ask one another which of them it could be who was to do this.	23 Allora essi cominciarono a chiedersi chi di essi avrebbe fatto una cosa simile.
24 An argument also began between them about who should be reckoned the greatest;	24 E tra loro sorse anche una discussione: chi di essi doveva essere considerato il più grande.
25 but he said to them, 'Among the gentiles it is the kings who lord it over them, and those who haveauthority over them are given the title Benefactor.	25 Egli disse loro: "I re governano sui loro popoli e quelli che hanno il potere su di essi si fanno chiamare benefattori.
26 With you this must not happen. No; the greatest among you must behave as if he were the youngest,the leader as if he were the one who serves.	26 Voi però non agite così; ma chi tra voi è il più grande diventi come il più piccolo e chi governa diventi come quello che serve.
27 For who is the greater: the one at table or the one who serves? The one at table, surely? Yet here amI among you as one who serves!	27 Chi è infatti più grande: chi siede a tavola o chi sta a servire? Non è forse chi siede a tavola? Eppure io sono in mezzo a voi come uno che serve.
28 'You are the men who have stood by me faithful y in my trials;	28 Voi siete quelli che sono rimasti con me nelle mie prove.
29 and now I confer a kingdom on you, just as my Father conferred one on me:	29 Ora, io preparo per voi un regno come il Padre l'ha preparato per me,
30 you wil eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you wil sit on thrones to judge the twelve tribesof Israel.	30 affinché mangiate e beviate alla mia tavola nel mio regno. E siederete sui troni per giudicare le dodici tribù d'Israele".
31 'Simon, Simon! Look, Satan has got his wish to sift you al like wheat;	31 "Simone, Simone, ascolta! Satana ha ottenuto il permesso di passarvi al vaglio come il grano.
32 but I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail, and once you have recovered, you inyour turn must strengthen your brothers.'	32 Ma io ho pregato per te, perché non venga meno la tua fede. E tu, quando sarai tornato, conferma i tuoi fratelli".
33 'Lord,' he answered, 'I would be ready to go to prison with you, and to death.'	33 Pietro allora gli disse: "Signore, con te sono pronto ad andare in prigione ed anche alla morte".
34 Jesus replied, 'I tell you, Peter, by the time the cock crows today you wil have denied three times thatyou know me.'	34 Gesù gli rispose: "Pietro, io ti dico: oggi non canterà il gallo prima che tu per tre volte abbia dichiarato di non conoscermi".
35 He said to them, 'When I sent you out without purse or haversack or sandals, were you short ofanything?'	35 Poi disse loro: "Quando vi mandai senza borsa, senza bisaccia e senza sandali, vi è mancato qualcosa?". Essi risposero: "Nulla".
36 'No, nothing,' they said. He said to them, 'But now if you have a purse, take it, and the same with ahaversack; if you have no sword, sell your cloak and buy one,	36 Allora egli disse: "Ora, però, chi ha una borsa la prenda, e così anche la bisaccia; e chi non ha una spada, venda il mantello e se ne compri una.
37 because I tell you these words of scripture are destined to be fulfil ed in me: He was counted as oneof the rebel ious. Yes, what it says about me is even now reaching its fulfilment.'	37 Vi dico infatti che deve compiersi in me ciò che è scritto: E' stato messo nel numero dei malfattori. Infatti ciò che mi riguarda volge al suo compimento".
38 They said, 'Lord, here are two swords.' He said to them, 'That is enough!'	38 Allora essi dissero: "Signore, ecco qui due spade". Ma egli rispose: "Basta!".
39 He then left to make his way as usual to the Mount of Olives, with the disciples fol owing.	39 Uscito se ne andò, secondo il suo solito, al monte degli Ulivi; lo seguirono anche i discepoli.
40 When he reached the place he said to them, 'Pray not to be put to the test.'	40 Quando giunse sul luogo, disse loro: "Pregate per non cadere in tentazione".
41 Then he withdrew from them, about a stone's throw away, and knelt down and prayed.	41 Poi si allontanò da loro alcuni passi e, inginocchiatosi, pregava:
42 'Father,' he said, 'if you are wil ing, take this cup away from me. Nevertheless, let your will be done,not mine.'	42 "Padre, se vuoi, allontana da me questo calice. Però non sia fatta la mia, ma la tua volontà".
43 Then an angel appeared to him, coming from heaven to give him strength.	43 Gli apparve allora un angelo dal cielo per confortarlo.
44 In his anguish he prayed even more earnestly, and his sweat fell to the ground like great drops ofblood.	44 E, entrato in agonia, pregava più intensamente. E il suo sudore divenne come gocce di sangue che cadevano a terra.
45 When he rose from prayer he went to the disciples and found them sleeping for sheer grief.	45 Poi, alzatosi dalla preghiera, andò dai discepoli e li trovò addormentati, a motivo della tristezza.
46 And he said to them, 'Why are you asleep? Get up and pray not to be put to the test.'	46 Disse loro: "Perché dormite? Alzatevi e pregate per non cadere in tentazione".
47 Suddenly, while he was still speaking, a number of men appeared, and at the head of them the mancal ed Judas, one of the Twelve, who went up to Jesus to kiss him.	47 Mentre egli ancora parlava, ecco giunse una folla di gente; li precedeva colui che si chiamava Giuda, uno dei Dodici. Si avvicinò a Gesù per baciarlo.
48 Jesus said, 'Judas, are you betraying the Son of man with a kiss?'	48 Gesù gli disse: "Giuda, con un bacio tradisci il Figlio dell'uomo?".
49 His followers, seeing what was about to happen, said, 'Lord, shal we use our swords?'	49 Quelli che erano con lui, appena si accorsero di quello che stava per accadere, dissero: "Signore, dobbiamo usare la spada?".
50 And one of them struck the high priest's servant and cut off his right ear.	50 E uno di loro colpì il servo del sommo sacerdote e gli staccò l'orecchio destro.
51 But at this Jesus said, 'That is enough.' And touching the man's ear he healed him.	51 Ma Gesù intervenne e disse: "Smettete, basta così!". E toccandogli l'orecchio, lo guarì.
52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests and captains of the Temple guard and elders who had come forhim, 'Am I a bandit, that you had to set out with swords and clubs?	52 Disse poi Gesù ai gran sacerdoti, agli ufficiali del tempio ed agli anziani che erano venuti contro di lui: "Siete usciti con spade e bastoni come contro un delinquente.
53 When I was among you in the Temple day after day you never made a move to lay hands on me. Butthis is your hour; this is the reign of darkness.'	53 Eppure ogni giorno io stavo con voi nel tempio e non mi avete mai arrestato. Ma questa è l'ora vostra e la potenza delle tenebre".
54 They seized him then and led him away, and they took him to the high priest's house. Peter fol owedat a distance.	54 Dopo averlo catturato, lo condussero via e lo introdussero nella casa del sommo sacerdote. Pietro intanto lo seguiva da lontano.
55 They had lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and Peter sat down among them,	55 In mezzo al cortile era acceso un fuoco, molti vi stavano seduti attorno e Pietro si sedette in mezzo a loro.
56 and as he was sitting there by the blaze a servant-girl saw him, peered at him, and said, 'This manwas with him too.'	56 Una serva lo vide seduto vicino al fuoco e fissandolo disse: "Anche quest'uomo stava con lui".
57 But he denied it. 'Woman, I do not know him,' he said.	57 Ma egli negò dicendo: "Donna, non lo conosco!".
58 Shortly afterwards someone else saw him and said, 'You are one of them too.' But Peter replied, 'I amnot, my friend.'	58 Poco dopo un altro, vedendolo, disse: "Anche tu sei uno di loro". Ma Pietro rispose: "No, non lo sono".
59 About an hour later another man insisted, saying, 'This fel ow was certainly with him. Why, he is aGalilean.'	59 Dopo circa un'ora, un altro insisté dicendo: "E' vero, anche questi era con lui; infatti è un galileo".
60 Peter said, 'My friend, I do not know what you are talking about.' At that instant, while he was stilspeaking, the cock crowed,	60 Ma Pietro disse: "O uomo, non so quello che dici". In quell'istante, mentre Pietro parlava ancora, un gallo cantò.
61 and the Lord turned and looked straight at Peter, and Peter remembered the Lord's words when hehad said to him, 'Before the cock crows today, you will have disowned me three times.'	61 Allora il Signore, voltatosi, guardò Pietro, e Pietro si ricordò della parola del Signore, il quale gli aveva detto: "Oggi, prima che il gallo canti, mi rinnegherai tre volte".
62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.	62 E uscito fuori, pianse amaramente.
63 Meanwhile the men who guarded Jesus were mocking and beating him.	63 Intanto gli uomini che avevano in custodia Gesù lo deridevano e lo percuotevano.
64 They blindfolded him and questioned him, saying, 'Prophesy! Who hit you then?'	64 Gli bendavano gli occhi e gli domandavano: "Indovina: chi ti ha colpito?".
65 And they heaped many other insults on him.	65 E dicevano contro di lui molte altre cose, bestemmiando.
66 When day broke there was a meeting of the elders of the people, the chief priests and scribes. Hewas brought before their council,	66 Appena fu giorno, si riunirono i capi del popolo insieme ai sommi sacerdoti e ai dottori della legge. Lo condussero davanti al sinedrio
67 and they said to him, 'If you are the Christ, tel us.' He replied, 'If I tel you, you wil not believe,	67 e gli dissero: "Se tu sei il Cristo, dillo a noi!". Gesù rispose: "Anche se ve lo dico, voi non mi crederete.
68 and if I question you, you will not answer.	68 Se invece vi interrogo, voi non mi risponderete.
69 But from now on, the Son of man wil be seated at the right hand of the Power of God.'	69 Ma d'ora in poi il Figlio dell'uomo siederà alla destra della potenza di Dio".
70 They all said, 'So you are the Son of God then?' He answered, 'It is you who say I am.'	70 Allora tutti domandarono: "Tu dunque sei il Figlio di Dio?". Egli rispose loro: "Voi dite che io lo sono".
71 Then they said, 'Why do we need any evidence? We have heard it for ourselves from his own lips.'	71 Essi conclusero: "Che bisogno abbiamo ancora di testimonianza? Noi stessi l'abbiamo udito dalla sua bocca".
