1 The feast of Unleavened Bread, cal ed the Passover, was now drawing near,	1 ויקרב חג המצות הנקרא פסח
2 and the chief priests and the scribes were looking for some way of doing away with him, because theywere afraid of the people.	2 והכהנים הגדולים והסופרים מבקשים איך יהרגהו כי יראו מפני העם
3 Then Satan entered into Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was one of the Twelve.	3 והשטן נכנס ביהודה המכנה איש קריות והוא במספר שנים העשר
4 He approached the chief priests and the officers of the guard to discuss some way of handing Jesusover to them.	4 וילך וידבר עם ראשי הכהנים ושרי החיל איך ימסרנו אל ידם
5 They were delighted and agreed to give him money.	5 וישמחו ויאתו לתת לו כסף
6 He accepted and began to look for an opportunity to betray him to them without people knowing aboutit.	6 ויבטח אתם ויבקש תואנה למסרו אליהם שלא לעיני ההמון
7 The day of Unleavened Bread came round, on which the Passover had to be sacrificed,	7 ויבא יום המצות אשר זבוח יזבח בו הפסח
8 and he sent Peter and John, saying, 'Go and make the preparations for us to eat the Passover.'	8 וישלח את פטרוס ואת יוחנן לאמר לכו והכינו לנו את הפסח ונאכלה
9 They asked him, 'Where do you want us to prepare it?'	9 ויאמרו אליו באי זה מקום תחפץ כי נכין אותו
10 He said to them, 'Look, as you go into the city you wil meet a man carrying a pitcher of water. Fol owhim into the house he enters	10 ויאמר אליהם הנה אתם באים העירה ופגע אתכם איש נשא צפחת מים לכו אחריו אל הבית אשר יבוא שמה
11 and tel the owner of the house, "The Master says this to you: Where is the room for me to eat thePassover with my disciples?"	11 ואמרתם אל בעל הבית כה אמר לך הרב איה המלון אשר אכלה שם את הפסח עם תלמידי
12 The man wil show you a large upper room furnished with couches. Make the preparations there.'	12 והוא יראה אתכם עליה גדולה מצעה שם תכינו
13 They set off and found everything as he had told them and prepared the Passover.	13 וילכו וימצאו כאשר דבר אליהם ויכינו את הפסח
14 When the time came he took his place at table, and the apostles with him.	14 ויהי כאשר הגיעה השעה ויסב הוא ושנים עשר השליחים אתו
15 And he said to them, 'I have ardently longed to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;	15 ויאמר אליהם נכסף נכספתי לאכל אתכם את הפסח הזה לפני ענותי
16 because, I tel you, I shal not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.'	16 כי אמר אני לכם אינני אכל אותו עוד עד כי ימלא במלכות האלהים
17 Then, taking a cup, he gave thanks and said, 'Take this and share it among you,	17 ויקח את הכוס ויברך ויאמר קחו אתה וחלקו ביניכם
18 because from now on, I tel you, I shall never again drink wine until the kingdom of God comes.'	18 כי אמר אני לכם שתה לא אשתה מעתה מתנובת הגפן עד כי תבוא מלכות האלהים
19 Then he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, 'This ismy body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.'	19 ויקח את הלחם ויברך ויבצע ויתן להם לאמר זה גופי הנתן בעדכם זאת עשו לזכרוני
20 He did the same with the cup after supper, and said, 'This cup is the new covenant in my bloodpoured out for you.	20 וכן גם את הכוס אחר הסעודה לאמר זו הכוס היא הברית החדשה בדמי הנשפך בעדכם
21 'But look, here with me on the table is the hand of the man who is betraying me.	21 אך הנה יד המסר אותי אתי על השלחן
22 The Son of man is indeed on the path which was decreed, but alas for that man by whom he isbetrayed!'	22 כי הן בן האדם הלך לו כפי אשר נחרץ עליו אבל אוי לאיש ההוא אשר על ידו ימסר
23 And they began to ask one another which of them it could be who was to do this.	23 והם החלו לחקר איש את רעהו מי הוא זה מהם אשר יעשה זאת
24 An argument also began between them about who should be reckoned the greatest;	24 וגם מריבה היתה ביניהם מי יחשב להיות הגדול בהם
25 but he said to them, 'Among the gentiles it is the kings who lord it over them, and those who haveauthority over them are given the title Benefactor.	25 ויאמר אליהם מלכי הגוים רדים בהם ושליטיהם יקראו עשי חסד
26 With you this must not happen. No; the greatest among you must behave as if he were the youngest,the leader as if he were the one who serves.	26 ואתם לא כן כי הגדול בכם יהיה כצעיר והמשל יהיה כמשרת
27 For who is the greater: the one at table or the one who serves? The one at table, surely? Yet here amI among you as one who serves!	27 כי מי הוא הגדול אם המסב או המשרת הלא המסב ואני הנני בתוככם כמו המשרת
28 'You are the men who have stood by me faithful y in my trials;	28 ואתם הם העמדים עמדי עד עתה בנסיונתי
29 and now I confer a kingdom on you, just as my Father conferred one on me:	29 לכן אני מנחיל אתכם כאשר הנחילני אבי את המלכות
30 you wil eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you wil sit on thrones to judge the twelve tribesof Israel.	30 למען תאכלו ותשתו על שלחני במלכותי וישבתם על כסאות לשפט את שנים עשר שבטי ישראל
31 'Simon, Simon! Look, Satan has got his wish to sift you al like wheat;	31 ויאמר האדון שמעון שמעון הנה תבע אתכם השטן לזרותכם כחטים
32 but I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail, and once you have recovered, you inyour turn must strengthen your brothers.'	32 ואני התפללתי בעדך אשר לא תכלה אמונתך ואתה כאשר תשוב חזק את אחיך
33 'Lord,' he answered, 'I would be ready to go to prison with you, and to death.'	33 והוא אמר אליו אדני הנני נכון ללכת אתך גם לבית האסורים גם למות
34 Jesus replied, 'I tell you, Peter, by the time the cock crows today you wil have denied three times thatyou know me.'	34 ויאמר אני אמר לך פטרוס לא יקרא תרנגל היום עד כי שלש פעמים כחשת בי לאמר לא ידעתיו
35 He said to them, 'When I sent you out without purse or haversack or sandals, were you short ofanything?'	35 ויאמר אליהם כאשר שלחתי אתכם בלי כיס ותרמיל ונעלים החסרתם דבר ויאמרו לא חסרנו כל דבר
36 'No, nothing,' they said. He said to them, 'But now if you have a purse, take it, and the same with ahaversack; if you have no sword, sell your cloak and buy one,	36 ויאמר אליהם אכן עתה אשר לו כיס ישאהו וכן גם את התרמיל ואשר אין לו הוא ימכר את בגדו ויקנה חרב
37 because I tell you these words of scripture are destined to be fulfil ed in me: He was counted as oneof the rebel ious. Yes, what it says about me is even now reaching its fulfilment.'	37 כי אמר אני לכם אשר צריך עוד להתמלא בי הכתוב הזה ואת פשעים נמנה כי כל הכתוב עלי בא עד קצו
38 They said, 'Lord, here are two swords.' He said to them, 'That is enough!'	38 ויאמרו אדנינו הנה פה שתי חרבות ויאמר אליהם די
39 He then left to make his way as usual to the Mount of Olives, with the disciples fol owing.	39 ויצא וילך כיום ביום על הר הזיתים וילכו אחריו גם תלמידיו
40 When he reached the place he said to them, 'Pray not to be put to the test.'	40 ויבא אל המקום ויאמר אליהם התפללו לבלתי בוא לידי נסיון
41 Then he withdrew from them, about a stone's throw away, and knelt down and prayed.	41 והוא נפרד מהם הרחק כקלע אבן ויכרע על ברכיו ויתפלל לאמר
42 'Father,' he said, 'if you are wil ing, take this cup away from me. Nevertheless, let your will be done,not mine.'	42 אבי אם רצונך להעביר מעלי את הכוס הזאת אך אל יהי כרצוני כי אם כרצונך
43 Then an angel appeared to him, coming from heaven to give him strength.	43 וירא אליו מלאך מן השמים ויחזקהו
44 In his anguish he prayed even more earnestly, and his sweat fell to the ground like great drops ofblood.	44 ויבאו עליו חבלי מות ויוסף להתפלל בחזקה ותהי זעתו כנטפי דם ירדים לארץ
45 When he rose from prayer he went to the disciples and found them sleeping for sheer grief.	45 ויקם מהתפלל ויבא אל התלמידים וימצאם ישנים מיגון
46 And he said to them, 'Why are you asleep? Get up and pray not to be put to the test.'	46 ]74-64[ ויאמר אליהם למה תישנו קומו והתפללו אשר לא תבאו לידי נסיונ, עודנו מדבר והנה המון ואחד משנים העשר הנקרא יהודה הלך לפניהם ויקרב אל ישוע לנשק לו
47 Suddenly, while he was still speaking, a number of men appeared, and at the head of them the mancal ed Judas, one of the Twelve, who went up to Jesus to kiss him.	47 ]74-64[
48 Jesus said, 'Judas, are you betraying the Son of man with a kiss?'	48 ויאמר ישוע אליו יהודה הבנשיקה אתה מוסר את בן האדם
49 His followers, seeing what was about to happen, said, 'Lord, shal we use our swords?'	49 והאנשים אשר אתו ראים את אשר יהיה ויאמרו אליו אדנינו הנכה בחרב
50 And one of them struck the high priest's servant and cut off his right ear.	50 ויך אחד מהם את עבד הכהן הגדול ויקצץ את אזנו הימנית
51 But at this Jesus said, 'That is enough.' And touching the man's ear he healed him.	51 ויען ישוע ויאמר רב עתה הרפו ויגע באזנו וירפאהו
52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests and captains of the Temple guard and elders who had come forhim, 'Am I a bandit, that you had to set out with swords and clubs?	52 ויאמר ישוע אל ראשי הכהנים ושרי המקדש והזקנים אשר באו עליו לאמר כמו על פריץ יצאתם עלי בחרבות ובמקלות
53 When I was among you in the Temple day after day you never made a move to lay hands on me. Butthis is your hour; this is the reign of darkness.'	53 ואהי אצלכם יום יום בהיכל ולא שלחתם בי יד ואולם זאת היא שעתכם ושלטן החשך
54 They seized him then and led him away, and they took him to the high priest's house. Peter fol owedat a distance.	54 ויתפשו אותו ויוליכהו ויביאהו בית הכהן הגדול ופטרוס הלך אחריו מרחוק
55 They had lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and Peter sat down among them,	55 ויהי כי בערו אש בתוך החצר וישבו יחדו וישב גם פטרוס בתוכם
56 and as he was sitting there by the blaze a servant-girl saw him, peered at him, and said, 'This manwas with him too.'	56 ותראהו השפחה יושב נגד האור ותבט בו ותאמר גם זה היה עמו
57 But he denied it. 'Woman, I do not know him,' he said.	57 ויכחש בו ויאמר אשה לא ידעתיו
58 Shortly afterwards someone else saw him and said, 'You are one of them too.' But Peter replied, 'I amnot, my friend.'	58 ואחרי מעט ראהו אדם אחר ויאמר גם אתה מהם ויאמר פטרוס לא אדם כי אינני
59 About an hour later another man insisted, saying, 'This fel ow was certainly with him. Why, he is aGalilean.'	59 ואחרי עבר כשעה אחת קים איש אחר לאמר אמנם גם זה היה עמו כי אף הוא גלילי
60 Peter said, 'My friend, I do not know what you are talking about.' At that instant, while he was stilspeaking, the cock crowed,	60 ויאמר פטרוס בן אדם לא ידעתי מה אתה אמר והוא עודנו מדבר והתרנגול קרא
61 and the Lord turned and looked straight at Peter, and Peter remembered the Lord's words when hehad said to him, 'Before the cock crows today, you will have disowned me three times.'	61 ויפן האדון ויבט אל פטרוס ויזכר פטרוס את דבר האדון אשר דבר אליו כי בטרם יקרא התרנגל תכחש בי שלש פעמים
62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.	62 ויצא פטרוס החוצה וימרר בבכי
63 Meanwhile the men who guarded Jesus were mocking and beating him.	63 והאנשים אשר אחזו את ישוע התעללו בו ויכהו
64 They blindfolded him and questioned him, saying, 'Prophesy! Who hit you then?'	64 ויחפו את ראשו ויכהו על פניו וישאלהו לאמר הנבא מי הוא ההלם אותך
65 And they heaped many other insults on him.	65 ועוד גדופים אחרים הרבו עליו
66 When day broke there was a meeting of the elders of the people, the chief priests and scribes. Hewas brought before their council,	66 ובהית הבקר נקהלו זקני העם והכהנים הגדולים והסופרים ויעלהו לפני הסנהדרין שלהם ויאמרו האתה הוא המשיח אמר לנו
67 and they said to him, 'If you are the Christ, tel us.' He replied, 'If I tel you, you wil not believe,	67 ויאמר אליהם כי אגיד לכם לא תאמינו
68 and if I question you, you will not answer.	68 וגם אם אשאל לא תשיבו דבר ולא תשלחוני
69 But from now on, the Son of man wil be seated at the right hand of the Power of God.'	69 אבל מעתה יהיה בן האדם ישב לימין גבורת האלהים
70 They all said, 'So you are the Son of God then?' He answered, 'It is you who say I am.'	70 ויאמרו כלם הכי אתה הוא בן האלהים ויאמר אליהם אתם אמרתם כי אני הוא
71 Then they said, 'Why do we need any evidence? We have heard it for ourselves from his own lips.'	71 ויאמרו מה לנו עוד לבקש עדות הלא באזנינו שמענוה מפיו
