Luke 22

1 The feast of Unleavened Bread, cal ed the Passover, was now drawing near,	1 - S'avvicinava la festa degli azzimi, chiamata Pasqua;
2 and the chief priests and the scribes were looking for some way of doing away with him, because theywere afraid of the people.	2 e i principi dei Sacerdoti e gli Scribi cercavano il modo di uccidere Gesù, ma avevan paura del popolo.
3 Then Satan entered into Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was one of the Twelve.	3 Ora, Satana entrò in Giuda, chiamato Iscariote, uno dei Dodici,
4 He approached the chief priests and the officers of the guard to discuss some way of handing Jesusover to them.	4 il quale andò a combinare coi principi dei Sacerdoti e coi capitani sul come darlo nelle loro mani.
5 They were delighted and agreed to give him money.	5 Essi se ne rallegrarono e patteggiarono di dargli del denaro.
6 He accepted and began to look for an opportunity to betray him to them without people knowing aboutit.	6 Egli s'impegnò da parte sua e cercava un'occasione favorevole per consegnarlo all'insaputa della folla.
7 The day of Unleavened Bread came round, on which the Passover had to be sacrificed,	7 Venne il giorno degli azzimi, nel quale si doveva immolare la Pasqua.
8 and he sent Peter and John, saying, 'Go and make the preparations for us to eat the Passover.'	8 Gesù mandò Pietro e Giovanni: «Andate» disse loro «a preparare il banchetto pasquale».

12 The man wil show you a large upper room furnished with couches. Make the preparations there.'	12 Ed egli vi mostrerà una gran sala allestita; quivi apparecchiate».
13 They set off and found everything as he had told them and prepared the Passover.	13 Essi andarono, trovarono com'egli aveva lor detto, e apparecchiaron la Pasqua.
14 When the time came he took his place at table, and the apostles with him.	14 All'ora stabilita, si mise a tavola con gli apostoli.
15 And he said to them, 'I have ardently longed to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;	15 E disse loro: «Ho desiderato ardentemente di mangiare questa Pasqua con voi, prima di patire,
16 because, I tel you, I shal not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.'	16 poichè vi dico che non ne mangerò più fino a che si celebri nel regno di Dio».
17 Then, taking a cup, he gave thanks and said, 'Take this and share it among you,	17 E preso un calice, rese grazie e disse: «Prendete e dividetelo tra voi;
18 because from now on, I tel you, I shall never again drink wine until the kingdom of God comes.'	18 perchè io vi dico che non berrò più del frutto della vite, finchè sia venuto il regno di Dio».
19 Then he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, 'This ismy body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.'	19 Poi prese del pane, rese grazie, lo spezzò e lo diede loro, dicendo: «Questo è il mio corpo, il quale è dato a voi; fate questo in memoria di me».
20 He did the same with the cup after supper, and said, 'This cup is the new covenant in my bloodpoured out for you.	20 E così fece col calice, dopo aver cenato, dicendo: «Questo calice è il nuovo patto nel sangue mio, che sarà sparso per voi.
21 'But look, here with me on the table is the hand of the man who is betraying me.	21 Del resto, ecco: la mano di chi mi tradisce è qui sulla tavola.
22 The Son of man is indeed on the path which was decreed, but alas for that man by whom he isbetrayed!'	22 Ma se il Figliuol dell'uomo se ne va, conforme a quanto è stato decretato, però guai a quell'uomo dal quale sarà tradito».
23 And they began to ask one another which of them it could be who was to do this.	23 Ed essi cominciarono a domandarsi gli uni gli altri chi fosse mai di loro che farebbe tal cosa.
24 An argument also began between them about who should be reckoned the greatest;	24 Nacque poi tra loro una contesa per sapere chi di essi doveva essere considerato il maggiore.
25 but he said to them, 'Among the gentiles it is the kings who lord it over them, and those who haveauthority over them are given the title Benefactor.	25 Ma egli disse loro: «I re delle nazioni le dominano e quelli che hanno autorità su di esse vengono chiamati benefattori.
26 With you this must not happen. No; the greatest among you must behave as if he were the youngest,the leader as if he were the one who serves.	26 Non sia però così tra voi; anzi il più grande tra voi, sia come il più piccolo; e chi governa, sia come colui che serve.
27 For who is the greater: the one at table or the one who serves? The one at table, surely? Yet here amI among you as one who serves!	27 Poichè chi è più grande, colui che sta a tavola o colui che serve? Non è forse colui che sta a tavola? Io tuttavia sto in mezzo a voi come uno che serve.
28 'You are the men who have stood by me faithful y in my trials;	28 Voi siete quelli che avete perseverato con me nelle mie prove;
29 and now I confer a kingdom on you, just as my Father conferred one on me:	29 io vi preparo un regno, come il Padre mio l'ha preparato per me;
30 you wil eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you wil sit on thrones to judge the twelve tribesof Israel.	30 affinchè mangiate e beviate alla mia mensa nel mio regno e sediate in trono a giudicare le dodici tribù di Israele».
31 'Simon, Simon! Look, Satan has got his wish to sift you al like wheat;	31 Disse poi il Signore: «Simone, Simone, ecco Satana va in cerca di voi per vagliarvi come si vaglia il grano.
32 but I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail, and once you have recovered, you inyour turn must strengthen your brothers.'	32 Ma io ho pregato per te, affinchè la tua fede non venga meno; e tu, quando sarai convertito, conferma i tuoi fratelli».
33 'Lord,' he answered, 'I would be ready to go to prison with you, and to death.'	33 Ma egli replicò: «Signore, son pronto ad andare con te e in prigione e alla morte».
34 Jesus replied, 'I tell you, Peter, by the time the cock crows today you wil have denied three times thatyou know me.'	34 E Gesù: «Pietro, ti dico che oggi il gallo non canterà, prima che tu abbia negato tre volte di conoscermi».
35 He said to them, 'When I sent you out without purse or haversack or sandals, were you short ofanything?'	35 Poi disse loro: «Quando vi mandai senza sacco, senza bisaccia e senza calzari, vi mancò mai nulla?».
36 'No, nothing,' they said. He said to them, 'But now if you have a purse, take it, and the same with ahaversack; if you have no sword, sell your cloak and buy one,	36 Ed essi risposero: «Nulla». Egli riprese: «Ma ora, chi ha un sacco, si prenda anche una bisaccia, e chi non ha spada, venda il mantello e ne compri una;
37 because I tell you these words of scripture are destined to be fulfil ed in me: He was counted as oneof the rebel ious. Yes, what it says about me is even now reaching its fulfilment.'	37 perchè io vi dico che è necessario che si compia in me questa parola della Scrittura: È stato annoverato tra i malfattori . Infatti le cose che mi riguardano si stanno compiendo».
38 They said, 'Lord, here are two swords.' He said to them, 'That is enough!'	38 Gli dissero: «Signore, ecco qui due spade!». Rispose loro: «Basta così!».
39 He then left to make his way as usual to the Mount of Olives, with the disciples fol owing.	39 Quindi uscì per andare, secondo il solito, al monte degli Ulivi, e i suoi discepoli lo seguirono.
40 When he reached the place he said to them, 'Pray not to be put to the test.'	40 Giunto sul luogo, disse loro: «Pregate per non cadere in tentazione».
41 Then he withdrew from them, about a stone's throw away, and knelt down and prayed.	41 E si staccò da loro circa un tiro di sasso e postosi in ginocchio, cominciò a pregare così:
42 'Father,' he said, 'if you are wil ing, take this cup away from me. Nevertheless, let your will be done,not mine.'	42 «Padre, se tu vuoi, allontana da me questo calice! Però si faccia non la mia, ma la tua volontà».
43 Then an angel appeared to him, coming from heaven to give him strength.	43 Allora gli apparve un angelo del cielo a confortarlo. E trovandosi in agonia, pregava più intensamente
44 In his anguish he prayed even more earnestly, and his sweat fell to the ground like great drops ofblood.	44 e il suo sudore divenne simile a gocce di sangue che cadevan per terra.
45 When he rose from prayer he went to the disciples and found them sleeping for sheer grief.	45 E alzatosi dalla preghiera, venne ai discepoli, che trovò addormentati per la tristezza,
46 And he said to them, 'Why are you asleep? Get up and pray not to be put to the test.'	46 e disse loro: «Perchè dormite? Alzatevi e pregate per non cadere in tentazione».
47 Suddenly, while he was still speaking, a number of men appeared, and at the head of them the mancal ed Judas, one of the Twelve, who went up to Jesus to kiss him.	47 Parlava ancora, ed ecco apparire una turba; colui che si chiamava Giuda, uno dei Dodici, li precedeva e si accostò a Gesù per baciarlo.
48 Jesus said, 'Judas, are you betraying the Son of man with a kiss?'	48 Gesù gli disse: «Giuda, con un bacio tradisci il Figliuol dell'uomo?».
49 His followers, seeing what was about to happen, said, 'Lord, shal we use our swords?'	49 Quelli che erano con Gesù, vedendo quanto stava per accadere, dissero: «Signore, dobbiamo mettere mano alla spada?».
50 And one of them struck the high priest's servant and cut off his right ear.	50 E un d'essi percosse il servo del sommo sacerdote e gli portò via netto l'orecchio destro.
51 But at this Jesus said, 'That is enough.' And touching the man's ear he healed him.	51 Ma Gesù disse: «Smettete, basta!». E toccato l'orecchio di costui, lo risanò.
52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests and captains of the Temple guard and elders who had come forhim, 'Am I a bandit, that you had to set out with swords and clubs?	52 Disse poi Gesù ai principi dei Sacerdoti, ai capitani delle guardie del tempio e agli anziani venuti contro di lui: «Siete venuti con spade e bastoni, come se fossi un ladro;
53 When I was among you in the Temple day after day you never made a move to lay hands on me. Butthis is your hour; this is the reign of darkness.'	53 mentre quando stavo con voi ogni giorno nel tempio, voi non mi avete mai messe le mani addosso; ma questa è l'ora vostra e la potenza delle tenebre».
54 They seized him then and led him away, and they took him to the high priest's house. Peter fol owedat a distance.	54 Impadronitisi di lui, lo menaron via e lo condussero in casa del sommo sacerdote; e Pietro lo seguiva di lontano.
55 They had lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and Peter sat down among them,	55 Avendo poi acceso un fuoco in mezzo al cortile, la gente si accomodò intorno ad esso e Pietro si sedette in mezzo a loro.
56 and as he was sitting there by the blaze a servant-girl saw him, peered at him, and said, 'This manwas with him too.'	56 Una serva, vistolo seduto al fuoco, lo squadrò ben bene e poi disse: «Anche quest'uomo era con lui».
57 But he denied it. 'Woman, I do not know him,' he said.	57 Ma egli negò, dicendo: «Donna, io non lo conosco».
58 Shortly afterwards someone else saw him and said, 'You are one of them too.' But Peter replied, 'I amnot, my friend.'	58 Poco dopo, un altro, vedendolo, disse: «Anche tu sei di quelli». Ma Pietro rispose: «O uomo, io non sono».
59 About an hour later another man insisted, saying, 'This fel ow was certainly with him. Why, he is aGalilean.'	59 E trascorsa circa un'ora, un terzo affermava la stessa cosa, dicendo: «Certo, pure questi era con lui; difatti è Galileo».
60 Peter said, 'My friend, I do not know what you are talking about.' At that instant, while he was stilspeaking, the cock crowed,	60 Ma Pietro replicò: «O uomo, io non so ciò che tu voglia dire». E subito, mentre ancora parlava, un gallo cantò.
61 and the Lord turned and looked straight at Peter, and Peter remembered the Lord's words when hehad said to him, 'Before the cock crows today, you will have disowned me three times.'	61 Il Signore allora si volse a guardar Pietro, e Pietro si ricordò della parola dettagli dal Signore: «Prima che il gallo canti oggi, tu mi rinnegherai tre volte».
62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.	62 E uscito fuori, Pietro pianse amaramente.
63 Meanwhile the men who guarded Jesus were mocking and beating him.	63 Intanto gli uomini che tenevan Gesù lo schernivano, percotendolo.
64 They blindfolded him and questioned him, saying, 'Prophesy! Who hit you then?'	64 E bendatolo gli davan schiaffi e gli domandavano: «Indovina chi ti ha percosso?».
65 And they heaped many other insults on him.	65 E bestemmiando, dicevano contro di lui molte altre cose.
66 When day broke there was a meeting of the elders of the people, the chief priests and scribes. Hewas brought before their council,	66 Appena giorno, gli anziani del popolo, i principi dei Sacerdoti e gli Scribi si radunarono e lo menarono al loro Sinedrio e gli dissero: «Se tu sei il Cristo, dillo a noi».
67 and they said to him, 'If you are the Christ, tel us.' He replied, 'If I tel you, you wil not believe,	67 Egli rispose loro: «Anche se ve lo dico, voi non mi credereste;
68 and if I question you, you will not answer.	68 e se vi facessi delle domande, voi non mi rispondereste, nè mi rilascereste.
69 But from now on, the Son of man wil be seated at the right hand of the Power of God.'	69 Ma d'ora innanzi il Figliuol dell'uomo sarà seduto alla destra della potenza di Dio».
70 They all said, 'So you are the Son of God then?' He answered, 'It is you who say I am.'	70 E tutti dissero: «Sei tu dunque il Figliuolo di Dio?». Egli rispose: «Voi stessi lo dite che io lo sono».
71 Then they said, 'Why do we need any evidence? We have heard it for ourselves from his own lips.'	71 Quelli allora esclamarono: «Che bisogno abbiamo ancora di testimonianze? L'abbiamo noi stesso udito dalla sua propria bocca».
