Matthew 14

NEW JERUSALEM	SMITH VAN DYKE
1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard about the reputation of Jesus	1 في ذلك الوقت سمع هيرودس رئيس الربع خبر يسوع.
2 and said to his court, 'This is John the Baptist himself; he has risen from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him.'	2 فقال لغلمانه هذا هو يوحنا المعمدان. قد قام من الاموات ولذلك تعمل به القوات
3 Now it was Herod who had arrested John, chained him up and put him in prison because of Herodias,his brother Philip's wife.	3 فان هيرودس كان قد امسك يوحنا واوثقه وطرحه في سجن من اجل هيروديا امرأة فيلبس اخيه.
4 For John had told him, 'It is against the Law for you to have her.'	4 لان يوحنا كان يقول له لا يحل ان تكون لك.
5 He had wanted to kil him but was afraid of the people, who regarded John as a prophet.	5 ولما اراد ان يقتله خاف من الشعب. لانه كان عندهم مثل نبي.
6 Then, during the celebrations for Herod's birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced before thecompany and so delighted Herod	6 ثم لما صار مولد هيرودس رقصت ابنة هيروديا في الوسط فسرّت هيرودس.
7 that he promised on oath to give her anything she asked.	7 من ثم وعد بقسم انه مهما طلبت يعطيها.
8 Prompted by her mother she said, 'Give me John the Baptist's head, here, on a dish.'	8 فهي اذ كانت قد تلقنت من امها قالت أعطيني ههنا على طبق راس يوحنا المعمدان.
9 The king was distressed but, thinking of the oaths he had sworn and of his guests, he ordered it to begiven her,	9 فاغتم الملك. ولكن من اجل الاقسام والمتكئين معه أمر ان يعطى.
10 and sent and had John beheaded in the prison.	10 فارسل وقطع راس يوحنا في السجن.
11 The head was brought in on a dish and given to the girl, who took it to her mother.	11 فأحضر رأسه على طبق ودفع الى الصبية. فجاءت به الى امها.
12 John's disciples came and took the body and buried it; then they went off to tell Jesus.	12 فتقدم تلاميذه ورفعوا الجسد ودفنوه. ثم أتوا واخبروا يسوع
13 When Jesus received this news he withdrew by boat to a lonely place where they could be bythemselves. But the crowds heard of this and, leaving the towns, went after him on foot.	13 فلما سمع يسوع انصرف من هناك في سفينة الى موضع خلاء منفردا. فسمع الجموع وتبعوه مشاة من المدن
14 So as he stepped ashore he saw a large crowd; and he took pity on them and healed their sick.	14 فلما خرج يسوع ابصر جمعا كثيرا فتحنن عليهم وشفى مرضاهم.
15 When evening came, the disciples went to him and said, 'This is a lonely place, and time has slippedby; so send the people away, and they can go to the vil ages to buy themselves some food.'	15 ولما صار المساء تقدم اليه تلاميذه قائلين الموضع خلاء والوقت قد مضى. اصرف الجموع لكي يمضوا الى القرى ويبتاعوا لهم طعاما.
16 Jesus replied, 'There is no need for them to go: give them something to eat yourselves.'	16 فقال لهم يسوع لا حاجة لهم ان يمضوا. اعطوهم انتم ليأكلوا.
17 But they answered, 'All we have with us is five loaves and two fish.'	17 فقالوا له ليس عندنا ههنا الا خمسة ارغفة وسمكتان.
18 So he said, 'Bring them here to me.'	18 فقال ايتوني بها الى هنا.
19 He gave orders that the people were to sit down on the grass; then he took the five loaves and thetwo fish, raised his eyes to heaven and said the blessing. And breaking the loaves he handed them to hisdisciples, who gave them to the crowds.	19 فامر الجموع ان يتكئوا على العشب. ثم اخذ الارغفة الخمسة والسمكتين ورفع نظره نحو السماء وبارك وكسر واعطى الارغفة للتلاميذ والتلاميذ للجموع.
20 They al ate as much as they wanted, and they col ected the scraps left over, twelve baskets full.	20 فأكل الجميع وشبعوا. ثم رفعوا ما فضل من الكسر اثنتي عشر قفة مملوءة.
21 Now about five thousand men had eaten, to say nothing of women and children.	21 والآكلون كانوا نحو خمسة آلاف رجل ما عدا النساء والاولاد
22 And at once he made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side while he sentthe crowds away.	22 وللوقت ألزم يسوع تلاميذه ان يدخلوا السفينة ويسبقوه الى العبر حتى يصرف الجموع.
23 After sending the crowds away he went up into the hil s by himself to pray. When evening came, hewas there alone,	23 وبعدما صرف الجموع صعد الى الجبل منفردا ليصلّي. ولما صار المساء كان هناك وحده.
24 while the boat, by now some furlongs from land, was hard pressed by rough waves, for there was ahead-wind.	24 واما السفينة فكانت قد صارت في وسط البحر معذبة من الامواج. لان الريح كانت مضادة.
25 In the fourth watch of the night he came towards them, walking on the sea,	25 وفي الهزيع الرابع من الليل مضى اليهم يسوع ماشيا على البحر.
26 and when the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified. 'It is a ghost,' they said, andcried out in fear.	26 فلما ابصره التلاميذ ماشيا على البحر اضطربوا قائلين انه خيال. ومن الخوف صرخوا.
27 But at once Jesus cal ed out to them, saying, 'Courage! It's me! Don't be afraid.'	27 فللوقت كلمهم يسوع قائلا تشجعوا. انا هو. لا تخافوا.
28 It was Peter who answered. 'Lord,' he said, 'if it is you, tel me to come to you across the water.'	28 فاجابه بطرس وقال يا سيد ان كنت انت هو فمرني ان آتي اليك على الماء.
29 Jesus said, 'Come.' Then Peter got out of the boat and started walking towards Jesus across thewater,	29 فقال تعال. فنزل بطرس من السفينة ومشى على الماء ليأتي الى يسوع.
30 but then noticing the wind, he took fright and began to sink. 'Lord,' he cried, 'save me!'	30 ولكن لما رأى الريح شديدة خاف واذ ابتدأ يغرق صرخ قائلا يا رب نجني.
31 Jesus put out his hand at once and held him. 'You have so little faith,' he said, 'why did you doubt?'	31 ففي الحال مدّ يسوع يده وامسك به وقال له يا قليل الايمان لماذا شككت.
32 And as they got into the boat the wind dropped.	32 ولما دخلا السفينة سكنت الريح.
33 The men in the boat bowed down before him and said, 'Truly, you are the Son of God.'	33 والذين في السفينة جاءوا وسجدوا له قائلين بالحقيقة انت ابن الله
34 Having made the crossing, they came to land at Gennesaret.	34 فلما عبروا جاءوا الى ارض جنيسارت.
35 When the local people recognised him they spread the news through the whole neighbourhood andtook al that were sick to him,	35 فعرفه رجال ذلك المكان. فارسلوا الى جميع تلك الكورة المحيطة واحضروا اليه جميع المرضى.
36 begging him just to let them touch the fringe of his cloak. And al those who touched it were saved.	36 وطلبوا اليه ان يلمسوا هدب ثوبه فقط. فجميع الذين لمسوه نالوا الشفاء
