Matthew 14

NEW JERUSALEM	KÁLDI-NEOVULGÁTA
1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard about the reputation of Jesus	1 Abban az időben Heródes negyedes fejedelem hírét hallotta Jézusnak,
2 and said to his court, 'This is John the Baptist himself; he has risen from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him.'	2 és azt mondta szolgáinak: »Ez Keresztelő János. Ő támadt föl a halálból, ezért működnek benne a csodatevő erők.«
3 Now it was Herod who had arrested John, chained him up and put him in prison because of Herodias,his brother Philip's wife.	3 Heródes ugyanis elfogatta Jánost, megkötözte és börtönbe vetette Heródiás miatt, aki testvérének, Fülöpnek volt a felesége.
4 For John had told him, 'It is against the Law for you to have her.'	4 János ugyanis azt mondta neki: »Nincs megengedve neked, hogy ő a tiéd legyen.«
5 He had wanted to kil him but was afraid of the people, who regarded John as a prophet.	5 Meg akarta őt ölni, de félt a néptől, mert prófétának tartották őt.
6 Then, during the celebrations for Herod's birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced before thecompany and so delighted Herod	6 Amikor Heródesnek születésnapja volt, Heródiás lánya kiállt középre és táncolt. Tetszett ez Heródesnek,
7 that he promised on oath to give her anything she asked.	7 ezért esküvel megígérte, hogy megadja neki, bármit kér is tőle.
8 Prompted by her mother she said, 'Give me John the Baptist's head, here, on a dish.'	8 Mivel az anyja már előre kioktatta, így szólt: »Add ide nekem egy tálon Keresztelő János fejét.«
9 The king was distressed but, thinking of the oaths he had sworn and of his guests, he ordered it to begiven her,	9 A király elszomorodott, de az eskü és az asztalnál ülők miatt megparancsolta, hogy adják oda neki.
10 and sent and had John beheaded in the prison.	10 Elküldött és lefejeztette Jánost a börtönben.
11 The head was brought in on a dish and given to the girl, who took it to her mother.	11 A fejét odavitték egy tálon és átadták a lánynak, az meg odavitte anyjának.
12 John's disciples came and took the body and buried it; then they went off to tell Jesus.	12 A tanítványai pedig fogták a holttestet és eltemették őt, aztán elmentek és hírül vitték Jézusnak.
13 When Jesus received this news he withdrew by boat to a lonely place where they could be bythemselves. But the crowds heard of this and, leaving the towns, went after him on foot.	13 Amikor Jézus meghallotta ezt, visszavonult onnan bárkán egy puszta helyre, egyedül. A tömegek tudomást szereztek erről és követték őt gyalog a városokból.
14 So as he stepped ashore he saw a large crowd; and he took pity on them and healed their sick.	14 Mikor kiszállt, meglátta a hatalmas tömeget. Megesett rajtuk a szíve, és meggyógyította a köztük lévő betegeket.
15 When evening came, the disciples went to him and said, 'This is a lonely place, and time has slippedby; so send the people away, and they can go to the vil ages to buy themselves some food.'	15 Mikor este lett, odamentek hozzá a tanítványok és azt mondták neki: »Sivár ez a hely és az idő is eljárt már. Bocsásd el a tömeget, hogy a falvakba menjenek és ennivalót vegyenek maguknak.«
16 Jesus replied, 'There is no need for them to go: give them something to eat yourselves.'	16 Jézus azonban azt mondta nekik: »Nincs rá szükség, hogy elmenjenek, adjatok nekik ti enni.«
17 But they answered, 'All we have with us is five loaves and two fish.'	17 Azok ezt felelték neki: »Nincs itt másunk, csak öt kenyér és két hal.«
18 So he said, 'Bring them here to me.'	18 Azt mondta nekik: »Hozzátok ide azokat.«
19 He gave orders that the people were to sit down on the grass; then he took the five loaves and thetwo fish, raised his eyes to heaven and said the blessing. And breaking the loaves he handed them to hisdisciples, who gave them to the crowds.	19 Megparancsolta, hogy a tömeg telepedjék le a fűre, aztán fogta az öt kenyeret és a két halat, feltekintett az égre, áldást mondott, megtörte a kenyereket és odaadta a tanítványoknak, a tanítványok pedig a tömegnek.
20 They al ate as much as they wanted, and they col ected the scraps left over, twelve baskets full.	20 Mindnyájan ettek és jóllaktak. Végül fölszedték a megmaradt darabokat, tizenkét tele kosárral.
21 Now about five thousand men had eaten, to say nothing of women and children.	21 Mintegy ötezer férfi volt, aki evett, az asszonyokat és gyerekeket nem számítva.
22 And at once he made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side while he sentthe crowds away.	22 Ezután mindjárt megparancsolta a tanítványoknak, hogy szálljanak bárkába, és menjenek előtte a túlpartra, amíg ő elbocsátja a tömeget.
23 After sending the crowds away he went up into the hil s by himself to pray. When evening came, hewas there alone,	23 Miután elbocsátotta a tömeget, egyedül fölment a hegyre imádkozni. Amikor beesteledett, egyedül volt ott.
24 while the boat, by now some furlongs from land, was hard pressed by rough waves, for there was ahead-wind.	24 A bárka pedig már sok stádiumnyira volt a parttól, hányták-vetették a hullámok, mert ellenszél volt.
25 In the fourth watch of the night he came towards them, walking on the sea,	25 Éjjel pedig, a negyedik őrváltás idején odament hozzájuk a tengeren járva.
26 and when the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified. 'It is a ghost,' they said, andcried out in fear.	26 Amikor a tanítványok meglátták őt, amint a tengeren jár, megrettentek és azt mondták: »Kísértet!«, és félelmükben kiáltozni kezdtek.
27 But at once Jesus cal ed out to them, saying, 'Courage! It's me! Don't be afraid.'	27 Jézus azonban mindjárt szólt nekik: »Bízzatok, én vagyok, ne féljetek!«
28 It was Peter who answered. 'Lord,' he said, 'if it is you, tel me to come to you across the water.'	28 Péter így válaszolt neki: »Uram, ha te vagy, parancsold, hogy hozzád menjek a vízen.«
29 Jesus said, 'Come.' Then Peter got out of the boat and started walking towards Jesus across thewater,	29 Ő azt mondta: »Gyere!« Péter kiszállt a bárkából, elindult a vízen és Jézushoz ment.
30 but then noticing the wind, he took fright and began to sink. 'Lord,' he cried, 'save me!'	30 Mikor azonban látta az erős szelet, megijedt, és amint merülni kezdett, felkiáltott: »Uram! Ments meg engem!«
31 Jesus put out his hand at once and held him. 'You have so little faith,' he said, 'why did you doubt?'	31 Jézus azonnal kinyújtotta a kezét, megragadta őt és azt mondta neki: »Te kishitű! Miért kételkedtél?«
32 And as they got into the boat the wind dropped.	32 Amikor beszálltak a bárkába, elállt a szél.
33 The men in the boat bowed down before him and said, 'Truly, you are the Son of God.'	33 Akik a bárkában voltak, leborultak előtte, és azt mondták: »Valóban Isten Fia vagy!«
34 Having made the crossing, they came to land at Gennesaret.	34 Átkelve a tavon Genezáret földjére jutottak.
35 When the local people recognised him they spread the news through the whole neighbourhood andtook al that were sick to him,	35 Amikor annak a helynek a lakosai felismerték őt, üzentek az egész környékre, odahoztak hozzá minden beteget,
36 begging him just to let them touch the fringe of his cloak. And al those who touched it were saved.	36 és kérték őt, hogy legalább a ruhája szegélyét érinthessék. Akik csak megérintették, meggyógyultak.
