NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
The angel who was talking to me came back and roused me as though rousing someone who wasasleep.1 Et reversus est angelus, qui loquebatur in me, et excitavit me quasivirum, qui excitatur de somno suo.
And he asked me, 'What do you see?' I replied, 'As I look, there is a lamp-stand entirely of gold with abowl at the top of it; it holds seven lamps, with seven openings for the lamps on it.2 Et dixit ad me: “Quid tu vides?”. Etdixi: “Vidi: et ecce candelabrum aureum totum, et ampulla super caput ipsius,et septem lucernae eius super illud, et septena infusoria lucernis, quae erantsuper caput eius.
By it are two olive trees, one to the right and the other to the left.'3 Et duae olivae super illud, una a dextris ampullae et una asinistris eius”.
I then said to the angel who was talking to me, 'What are those things, my lord?'4 Et respondi et aio ad angelum, qui loquebatur in me, dicens: “Quid sunthaec, domine mi?”.
The angel who was talking to me replied, 'Do you not know what they are?' I said, 'No, my lord.'5 Et respondit angelus, qui loquebatur in me, et dixit adme: “Numquid nescis quid sunt haec?”. Et dixi: “Non, domine mi”.
He then gave me this answer,'These seven are the eyes of Yahweh, which range over the whole world.'6 Et respondit et ait ad me dicens: “Hoc est verbum Domini ad Zorobabeldicens: Non in exercitu nec in robore sed in spiritu meo, dicit Dominusexercituum.
'What are you, great mountain? Beside Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! He wil bring out thekeystone while it is cheered with Hurrah! Hurrah!'7 Quis tu, mons magne, coram Zorobabel? Eris in planum. Et educetlapidem primarium inter clamores: Quam venustus!
The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows,8 Et factum est verbum Dominiad me dicens:
'The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this Temple; his hands wil finish it. (Then you wilknow that Yahweh Sabaoth has sent me to you.)9 Manus Zorobabel fundaverunt domum istam et manus eius perficienteam, et scietis quia Dominus exercituum misit me ad vos.
A day of little things, no doubt, but who would dare despise it? How they wil rejoice when they see thechosen stone in the hands of Zerubbabel!'10 Quis enim despexitdiem initiorum parvorum? Et laetabuntur et videbunt lapidem stanneum in manuZorobabel. Septem illae oculi sunt Domini, qui discurrunt in universa terra”.
Then I went on to ask him, 'What is the meaning of these two olive trees, to right and left of the lamp-stand?'11 Et respondi et dixi ad eum: “Quid sunt duae olivae istae ad dexteramcandelabri et ad sinistram eius?”.
(And I went on to ask him further, 'What is the meaning of the two olive branches discharging oilthrough the two golden openings?')12 Et respondi secundo et dixi ad eum: “Quidsunt duo rami olivarum, qui duabus fistulis aureis effundunt ex se aurum?”.
He replied, 'Do you not know what they are?' I said, 'No, my lord.'13 Et ait ad me dicens: “Numquid nescis quid sunt haec?”. Et dixi: “Non,domine mi”.
He said, 'These are the two anointed ones in attendance on the Lord of the whole world. This is theword of Yahweh with regard to Zerubbabel, 'Not by might and not by power, but by my spirit' -- says YahwehSabaoth.14 Et dixit: “Isti sunt duo filii olei, qui assistunt Dominatoriuniversae terrae”.
