NEW JERUSALEMVULGATA
1 Now the Lord Yahweh Sabaoth is about to deprive Jerusalem and Judah of resources and provisions --al reserves of food, al reserves of water-1 Ecce enim Dominator, Dominus exercituum,
auferet a Jerusalem et a Juda
validum et fortem,
omne robur panis, et omne robor aquæ ;
2 of hero, warrior, judge, prophet, diviner, elder,2 fortem, et virum bellatorem,
judicem, et prophetam, et ariolum, et senem ;
3 captain, dignitary, counsellor, architect, soothsayer.3 principem super quinquaginta, et honorabilem vultu et consiliarium,
et sapientem de architectis, et prudentem eloquii mystici.
4 'I shal give them boys for princes, raw lads to rule over them.'4 Et dabo pueros principes eorum,
et effeminati dominabuntur eis ;
5 People will be il -treated by one another, each by his neighbour; the young wil insult the aged, and thelow, the respected.5 et irruet populus, vir ad virum,
et unusquisque ad proximum suum ;
tumultuabitur puer contra senem,
et ignobilis contra nobilem.
6 Yes, a man wil catch hold of his brother in their father's house, to say, 'You have a cloak, so you beleader, and rule this heap of ruins.'6 Apprehendet enim vir fratrem suum,
domesticum patris sui :
Vestimentum tibi est, princeps esto noster,
ruina autem hæc sub manu tua.
7 And, that day, the other wil protest, 'I am no healer; in my house there is neither food nor clothing; donot make me leader of the people.'7 Respondebit in die illa, dicens :
Non sum medicus,
et in domo mea non est panis neque vestimentum :
nolite constituere me principem populi.
8 For Jerusalem has col apsed and Judah has fallen, because their words and deeds affront Yahweh andinsult his glorious gaze.8 Ruit enim Jerusalem, et Judas concidit,
quia lingua eorum et adinventiones eorum contra Dominum,
ut provocarent oculos majestatis ejus.
9 Their complacency bears witness against them, they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not conceal it,al the worse for them, for they have hatched their own downfal .9 Agnitio vultus eorum respondit eis ;
et peccatum suum quasi Sodoma prædicaverunt, nec absconderunt.
Væ animæ eorum, quoniam reddita sunt eis mala !
10 Say, 'Blessed the upright, for he will feed on the fruit of his deeds;10 Dicite justo quoniam bene,
quoniam fructum adinventionum suarum comedet.
11 woe to the wicked, it wil go il with him, for he will be treated as his actions deserve.'11 Væ impio in malum !
retributio enim manuum ejus fiet ei.
12 O my people, their oppressors pil age them and extortioners rule over them! O my people, your rulersmislead you and efface the paths you ought to fol ow!12 Populum meum exactores sui spoliaverunt,
et mulieres dominatæ sunt eis.
Popule meus, qui te beatum dicunt, ipsi te decipiunt,
et viam gressuum tuorum dissipant.
13 Yahweh has risen to accuse, is standing to pass judgement on the people.13 Stat ad judicandum Dominus,
et stat ad judicandos populos.
14 Yahweh is about to try the elders and the princes of his people, 'You are the ones who have ravagedthe vineyard, the spoils of the poor are in your houses.14 Dominus ad judicium veniet
cum senibus populi sui, et principibus ejus ;
vos enim depasti estis vineam,
et rapina pauperis in domo vestra.
15 By what right do you crush my people and grind the faces of the poor?' says the Lord Yahweh Sabaoth.15 Quare atteritis populum meum,
et facies pauperum commolitis ?
dicit Dominus Deus exercituum.
16 Yahweh says: Because Zion's daughters are proud and walk with heads held high and enticing eyes --with mincing steps they go, jingling the bangles on their feet-16 Et dixit Dominus :
Pro eo quod elevatæ sunt filiæ Sion,
et ambulaverunt extento collo,
et nutibus oculorum ibant,
et plaudebant, ambulabant pedibus suis,
et composito gradu incedebant ;
17 the Lord will give Zion's daughters scabby heads, Yahweh will lay their foreheads bare.17 decalvabit Dominus verticem filiarum Sion,
et Dominus crinem earum nudabit.
18 That day the Lord wil take away the ornamental chains, medallions, crescents,18 In die illa auferet Dominus ornamentum calceamentum,
19 pendants, bracelets, trinkets,19 et lunulas, et torques,
et monilia, et armillas, et mitras,
20 diadems, ankle-chains, necklaces, scent bottles, amulets,20 et discriminalia, et periscelidas, et murenulas,
et olfactoriola, et inaures,
21 finger-rings, nose-rings,21 et annulos, et gemmas in fronte pendentes,
22 party dresses, cloaks, scarves, purses,22 et mutatoria, et palliola,
et linteamina, et acus,
23 mirrors, linen clothes, turbans and mantillas.23 et specula, et sindones,
et vittas, et theristra.
24 Then, instead of perfume, a stink; instead of belt, a rope, instead of hair elaborately dressed, a shavenscalp, instead of gorgeous clothes, sacking round the waist, and brand marks instead of beauty.24 Et erit pro suavi odore fœtor,
et pro zona funiculus,
et pro crispanti crine calvitium,
et pro fascia pectorali cilicium.
25 Your men wil fal by the sword, your warriors in battle,25 Pulcherrimi quoque viri tui gladio cadent,
et fortes tui in prælio.
26 and her gates wil moan and mourn; she wil sit on the ground, deserted.26 Et mœrebunt atque lugebunt portæ ejus,
et desolata in terra sedebit.
