NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
1 Now the Lord Yahweh Sabaoth is about to deprive Jerusalem and Judah of resources and provisions --al reserves of food, al reserves of water-1 Ecce enim Dominator, Dominus exercituum,
aufert a Ierusalem et a Iuda robur et praesidium,
omne robur panis et omne robur aquae,
2 of hero, warrior, judge, prophet, diviner, elder,2 fortem et virum bellatorem,
iudicem et prophetam et hariolum et senem,
3 captain, dignitary, counsellor, architect, soothsayer.3 principem super quinquaginta et honorabilem vultu
et consiliarium et sapientem magum
et prudentem incantatorem.
4 'I shal give them boys for princes, raw lads to rule over them.'4 Et dabo pueros principes eorum;
et infantes dominabuntur eis.
5 People will be il -treated by one another, each by his neighbour; the young wil insult the aged, and thelow, the respected.5 Et irruet populus, vir ad virum,
unusquisque ad proximum suum:
tumultuabitur puer contra senem,
et ignobilis contra nobilem.
6 Yes, a man wil catch hold of his brother in their father's house, to say, 'You have a cloak, so you beleader, and rule this heap of ruins.'6 Apprehendet enim vir fratrem suum
in domo patris sui:
“ Vestimentum tibi est,
princeps esto noster,
ruina autem haec sub manu tua ”.
7 And, that day, the other wil protest, 'I am no healer; in my house there is neither food nor clothing; donot make me leader of the people.'7 Clamabit in die illa dicens:
“ Non sum medicus,
et in domo mea non est panis neque vestimentum;
nolite constituere me principem populi ”.
8 For Jerusalem has col apsed and Judah has fallen, because their words and deeds affront Yahweh andinsult his glorious gaze.8 Ruit enim Ierusalem, et Iudas concidit,
quia lingua eorum et adinventiones eorum contra Dominum,
ut provocarent oculos maiestatis eius.
9 Their complacency bears witness against them, they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not conceal it,al the worse for them, for they have hatched their own downfal .9 Procacitas vultus eorum accusat eos,
et peccatum suum quasi Sodoma
praedicaverunt nec absconderunt;
vae animae eorum,
quoniam reddita sunt eis mala!
10 Say, 'Blessed the upright, for he will feed on the fruit of his deeds;10 Dicite iusto: “ Bene! ”,
quoniam fructum adinventionum suarum comedet.
11 woe to the wicked, it wil go il with him, for he will be treated as his actions deserve.'11 Vae impio in malum:
retributio enim manuum eius fiet ei!
12 O my people, their oppressors pil age them and extortioners rule over them! O my people, your rulersmislead you and efface the paths you ought to fol ow!12 Populum meum opprimit infans,
et mulieres dominantur ei.
Popule meus, qui te beatum dicunt, ipsi te decipiunt
et viam gressuum tuorum dissipant.
13 Yahweh has risen to accuse, is standing to pass judgement on the people.13 Surgit ad arguendum Dominus
et stat ad iudicandos populos.
14 Yahweh is about to try the elders and the princes of his people, 'You are the ones who have ravagedthe vineyard, the spoils of the poor are in your houses.14 Dominus ad iudicium veniet
cum senibus populi sui et principibus eius:
“ Vos enim depasti estis vineam,
et rapina pauperis in domibus vestris.
15 By what right do you crush my people and grind the faces of the poor?' says the Lord Yahweh Sabaoth.15 Quare atteritis populum meum
et facies pauperum commolitis? ”,
dicit Dominus, Deus exercituum.
16 Yahweh says: Because Zion's daughters are proud and walk with heads held high and enticing eyes --with mincing steps they go, jingling the bangles on their feet-16 Et dixit Dominus:
“ Pro eo quod elevatae sunt filiae Sion
et ambulaverunt extento collo et nutibus oculorum,
parvis passibus incedebant
et catenulis pedum tinniebant,
17 the Lord will give Zion's daughters scabby heads, Yahweh will lay their foreheads bare.17 decalvabit Dominus verticem filiarum Sion
et Dominus crinem earum nudabit ”.
18 That day the Lord wil take away the ornamental chains, medallions, crescents,18 In die illa auferet Dominus
ornamentum calceamentorum et torques
19 pendants, bracelets, trinkets,19 et lunulas et inaures
et armillas et mitras,
20 diadems, ankle-chains, necklaces, scent bottles, amulets,20 discriminalia et periscelidas
et fascias et olfactoriola
21 finger-rings, nose-rings,21 et anulos et ornamenta narium,
22 party dresses, cloaks, scarves, purses,22 mutatoria et palliola
et linteamina et marsupia,
23 mirrors, linen clothes, turbans and mantillas.23 specula et sindones
et vittas et pallia.
24 Then, instead of perfume, a stink; instead of belt, a rope, instead of hair elaborately dressed, a shavenscalp, instead of gorgeous clothes, sacking round the waist, and brand marks instead of beauty.24 Et erit pro suavi odore foetor,
et pro zona funiculus,
et pro crispante crine calvitium,
et pro fascia pectorali cilicium,
stigma pro pulchritudine.
25 Your men wil fal by the sword, your warriors in battle,25 Viri tui gladio cadent,
et fortes tui in proelio,
26 and her gates wil moan and mourn; she wil sit on the ground, deserted.26 et maerebunt atque lugebunt portae eius,
et desolata in terra sedebit.
