1The year the general-in-chief, sent by Sargon king of Assyria, came to Ashdod and stormed andcaptured it2at that time Yahweh spoke through Isaiah son of Amoz and said, 'Go, undo the sackcloth round yourwaist and take the sandals off your feet.' And he did so, and walked about, naked and barefoot.3Yahweh then said, 'As my servant Isaiah has been walking about naked and barefoot for the last threeyears as a sign and portent for Egypt and Cush,4so the king of Assyria wil lead the captives of Egypt and the exiles of Cush, young and old, naked andbarefoot, their buttocks bared, to the shame of Egypt.5Then they wil be afraid and ashamed of Cush their hope and Egypt their pride,6and the inhabitants of this coast will say on that day, "Look what has happened to our hope, to those towhom we fled for help, to escape from the king of Assyria. How are we going to escape?" '
